White House tells official who gave Kushner security clearance: Don't comply with subpoena

Kline will be held in contempt of Congress if he doesn't appear.

Trumps son-in-law Jared Kushner - He should never have received top security clearance.

4/23/19
The White House has told Carl Kline, the former security specialist who approved Jared Kushner’s security clearance over the objections of career staffers, not to comply with a subpoena from the House Oversight Committee, according to a letter obtained by NBC News. Kline was supposed to appear before committee staff Tuesday to face questions related to his handling of White House security clearances. But in a letter to Kline's attorney Robert Driscoll dated Monday, White House Deputy Counsel Michael Purpura said Kline should not appear for an interview if the committee does not allow a member of the White House counsel staff to attend.

Carl Kline no longer works for the Trump White House, but the WH has threatened to have Kline terminated from his Pentagon job if he honors the Congressional subpoena.

Yet another example of the Trump White House trying to circumvent the Constitutional powers of Congress and crap all over the rule of law.

The whitehouse has every right to insist on having legal representation there.

And this would be the proper course for the WH to take.

The Dems would get nothing but "My counsel advises me not to answer that question."

I think that's what will ultimately happen. Right now, they...the House Dems and Trump...are sparing. They haven't gotten down to the knock-down, drag-out fight yet.

Fine. But not at the same table as the witness.

Oh yes...at the same table.

Strzok, after he was fired, went before a House committee and he had an FBI lawyer sitting right next to him. It'll be no different with Kline.

Obstruction of Justice by Trump continues

I have got to say, one value I like about Republicans,

is that if Trump were a Democrat impeachment hearings would be in process.

Don't bother me with a hypothetical "if this...then that". I'm not interested.

He doesn’t work for the White House anymore. You’re saying the White House has every right to threaten a witness if he cooperates with a lawful order.

I don’t understand how you can support this. Doesn’t Congress have a right to know how Kushner’s clearance was approved? What’s the big secret?

You have no evidence of any threats and sure congress can interview him but the WH also has a duty to protect confidential information that Congress does not have a right to know. Congressional rights have limits.

I didn't say it did. I asked that other poster a question so I can have a discussion with him. Keep your anger and paranoia in check.

my anger and paranoia?

wow, who pissed in your cheerios this morning?

better look in the mirror there dearie

You're the one who jumped in on a post I made to someone else, and then showed your paranoia that I was being a big old meanie. I asked him a question. Perhaps you should have let him answer and see where I was going. "Dearie"?

I'm not sure but why would that make any difference?

Because I'd like to understand the rules of Congressional hearings. They are constantly yanking private citizens down to the Hill to testify, and I wonder if they are encouraged to bring attorneys with them, as opposed to government staffers.
