Mueller report: Donald Trump failed us as commander in chief

A president who takes seriously his oath would be in shock to realize the astonishing level of penetration of his inner circle by agents of Russia.

The president of the United States, like all elected officials and public servants, swears to uphold and defend the Constitution against all enemies. But there is one responsibility the president must bear alone, and that is the obligation to act as the commander in chief, the guardian of our national security and the defender of our nation from malevolent foreign powers. The Mueller report makes clear that Donald Trump has failed miserably in this sacred obligation, and instead has traded his constitutional duty for his own safety. Special counsel Robert Mueller’s conclusions laid to rest some — but not all — of the legal issues surrounding the Russian attempts to subvert our democratic processes. As the report notes, Mueller’s team could not find a specific agreement between the Trump campaign and the Russian government to cooperate in an operation against American institutions. For this, we should be grateful, but that’s about as far as the good news goes. As a team of writers at Lawfare put it, Trump’s people “were aware the Russians sought to help them win. They welcomed that assistance. Instead of warning the American public, they devised a public relations and campaign strategy that sought to capitalize on Russia’s illicit assistance. In other words, the Russians and the Trump campaign shared a common goal, and each side worked to achieve that goal with basic knowledge of the other side’s intention. They just didn’t agree to work toward that goal together.” As a candidate and as a citizen, Trump had a responsibility to put a stop to this unethical and dangerous behavior in his organization. He had an obligation to report it to the FBI, and to work with the government to thwart the Russian efforts.

Instead, he knowingly allowed his campaign and some of the people closest to him to continue their contacts with the Russians, and then he spent months lying, encouraging others to cover for him, and gaslighting an entire nation with talks of witch hunts and hoaxes. A president determined to fulfill his duty to protect the nation would admit these realities. He would come before the American people and their representatives with an admission, at the least, of poor judgement, and a plan to fight the continuing Russian attacks on our country. A president determined to defend the nation would take the Mueller report as a mark of shame, and then support a full and bipartisan investigation of the security of our election process. A commander in chief who cared about the country would put the Russians on notice, and would do everything in his power to protect the institutions of American democracy. Russia attacked our democracy. Trump and his cronies knew it and were glad for it. As president, Trump has steadfastly refused to accept his responsibility to do anything about this assault on our institutions. This is a dereliction of duty, and it continues even now. As president, Trump has steadfastly refused to accept his responsibility to do anything about this assault on our institutions. This is a dereliction of duty, and it continues even now. Donald Trump is the president and the commander in chief until Congress or voters say he is not. But nothing will ever change the fact that Robert Mueller has dragged into the light one of the greatest and darkest stains on a presidency in U.S. history.

No matter how I look at it, Trump is a treasonous bastard.

Donald Trump cares about Donald Trump first, Ivanka Kushner second, the rest of the world lags far behind. Nobody with more than 2 functioning brain cells thought he was the right person for the job. He's proved himself to be the world's worst person for the job.

I can not wait to cast a vote against this man.

What does it matter anymore?

Who ****ing cares?

The situation is hopeless... Almost half the country has made a unilateral decision to say, outright they are willing to stand behind someone as contemptible as Trump no matter what.

It is clear from the Mueller report, consistent with news reports, books, his own words, his own actions and common sense, that he is a thoroughly corrupt and incompetent President who is unfit to be in office.

Boo boo, doesn’t matter what is objectively true anymore, he’ll never be impeached, Democrats are so unbelievably incompetent that if the economy can hold on til the election, even though he has nothing to do with it, he could very well win and the American electorate will have proven once and for all, that the idiocracy is here and here to stay.

American tribalism is what ultimately will destroy America, not a terrorist, not a foreign power, but tribalism so strong, that so much of the country would possibly stand behind one of the worst among them and be proud of that fact and he’s not even the problem, it’s who comes after, because if so many Americans are so willing to vote for someone so bad, imagine who else they could support...

National (POTUS) elections cannot be won with only tribal (either major party voters) alone. One must realize that the other voters (independents) decide national elections and they are, for the most part, just right of center. To replace Trump, as bad as some assert that he is, requires an opposition candidate who can appeal to most independents - Hillary Clinton (barely) failed that test.

There is a little tiny bit of hope: if we hold out for a generation, there is a chance that a large enough a percentage of children grow up watching their pro-Trump parents behaving in the fashion that DP Trumpists behave and disown Trumpism as an ideology. Or perhaps more accurately, as an antithesis of ideology in general. Trumpism is a negation of the concept of having a coherent approach to things in favor of being in favor of whatever it is Trump (and in the future, the next nominee) is for at the moment, reality be damned.

It is clear from the Mueller report.

What is clear from the Mueller report is there is a deep establishment state desperate to cover their own selfish actions with no regard for the country or those terminally afflicted with trump derangement syndrome..

What you libs decided was "objectively true" months before the report was released, wasn't. It's all you have and you must press on regardless.

Advice:Stop wasting our time with more nonsensical "investigations" and find a good candidate we can all get behind. That's the only thing you can do to get the rest of the country to see it your way. There is NOTHING you folks have done so far that will move anyone in your direction, in fact the **** you are throwing will make that movement even more difficult.

Actually, most Independents vote for one party or the other so reliably that they are indistinguishable from loyal, straight party ticket voters.

These days, it's all about getting your base to turn out which is why Hillary was such a disaster
