Bad for Buttigieg

I’d release my tax returns but they’re under audit.

FBI crook to congressional investigators: 'I cannot answer your searing questions about the incriminating evidence against me because all the incriminating facts are under current investigation where they will remain sealed unto I am safely out of danger of being prosecuted.'

I’m simply pointing out a rather glaring inconsistency on your part. Throwing up the same inconsistency again really doesn’t help your argument.

What a bad look, firing the black police chief, more at link: Pete Buttigieg Fired South Bend’s Black Police Chief. It Still Stings. - The New York Times

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Pete Buttigieg had been mayor just 13 weeks when he faced a leadership crisis.
It was March 2012, and 300 residents of South Bend, Ind., solemnly marched to the Martin Luther King Center to protest the killing in Florida of a black teenager, Trayvon Martin.
A prominent figure at the demonstration was Darryl Boykins, South Bend’s first black police chief. Admired for teaching tennis and boxing to young people, he had been promoted to chief five years earlier after winning the respect of both black and white officers in a department that sometimes divided along racial lines.
Mr. Buttigieg addressed the protesters, but seemed not to interact with Mr. Boykins. What no one in the crowd knew was that the police top brass were in turmoil — shaken by allegations that Mr. Boykins had improperly taped phone calls of senior white officers who were said to have used racist language, including about him.
With federal prosecutors scrutinizing Mr. Boykins, the 29-year-old mayor fired the veteran police chief just before the Trayvon Martin protest. No action was taken against the officers. Precisely what they said on the tapes of their department phone calls is unknown to the public: Mr. Buttigieg has refused to release them, saying the matter is still being resolved in court.

Firing someone for being an ignorant racist dick? Bravo!

It's bad political optics, like i said imagine he was a Republican, it would be "proof he is a racist".

It is also proof Pete isn't socialist, either, because socialists believe African-Americans should have, at least, 13% of all the political offices since, nationally, African-Americans make up 13% of the national population....and socialists believe in reparations, so, keeping the police chief would just be another form of reparation. A double blow to Pete's dem presidential nomination hopes...Being racist and non-socialist...a triple and quadruple blow considering Pete is white and male.

Is it Pete's one redeeming quality that he is gay?

The chief was demoted because he did not disclose that he was the subject of a criminal investigation. Buttigieg did the right thing.

Actually, to get the simile of the police chief and Comey right, it would be not disclosing that - EDIT: the chief - was the subject of a criminal investigation while the police chief swears the document that 'incriminates' Pete is salacious...meaning unverified and highly political.

The chief was the one under investigation and Buttigieg only found out about it after being informed by the FBI. Not sure what point you’re trying to make here.

The reason for firing Comey VS. the reason for firing the police chief??? Comey didn't disclose to his ranking executive. The police chief didn't disclose to his ranking executive? Duh?

EDIT: BTW, I corrected who was being investigated.

I asked for examples of their alleged racism. Please supply details as requested, or is it merely your opinion I'm supposed to accept as factual?

Any demand for reparations. Any demand to satisfy their SJW mentality. Is that good enough?

This story reminds of me about one thing, and one thing only...

...our legal system makes it far too difficult and wrought with insanely expensive legal risks to let go of public employees.

I'm definitely inclined to believe this, just given everything else we know about Mayor Pete. As a white person, this is pretty low on my reasons why he's a bad candidate, though.

You just agreed with Trump's reasoning for firing Comey. You understand?

Trump fired Comey for not disclosing to a superior - Trump. Pete B. fired the police chief for not disclosing to a superior - Pete B.

I'm confused. Does racism now exclude actions against whites for being white?

So why are you avoiding my request? Oh, I get it, it's because you can't provide a single example of this alleged racism other than what your imagination can conjure up. Thanks for playing (and for the strawman):2wave:

One of the main tenants of SJW thinking is racism against whites to pay back some past injustice. You get it now?

The SJW wouldn't call it racism for some dumb reason like blacks can't be racist (even though they are) because they don't, for example, control anything even though blacks control the black community quite heavily.

It is very difficult for one to use racism over those they may not like, or think are inferior if they have little power over those people.

I am quite certain, back in the days of slavery, blacks had racists feelings towards whites, but really could not do much about it.

Actual (legal) slavery today is gone in America today, but in reality, racism still exists, and generally speaking, whites (mostly male) still have the power. To deny that, is denying reality.

(this does not mean all white folks are racists, it simply means racism still has an ugly presence in society today)

Sounds like there were some allegedly racist statements made about Boykin - I don't doubt it or the tapes wouldn't be an issue. I don't know that this is bad for Buttigieg. It is still under investigation, and the recordings are illegal - that's why they likely will never be released. They were discovered by accident by Depaepe, the department's Communication Director, after their recording system crashed. DePaepe and Boykin made the decision to continue illegally recording conversations. Boykin then attempted to hold the recordings over the heads of those who he believed were "gunning" for his job - and they may have been. THEN Depaepe gave Boykin copies of the illegally obtained recordings.

Disclaimer - this is from CNN: South Bend tapes controversy newly relevant amid Pete Buttigieg's rise - CNNPolitics

The allegations date back to 2011, when the South Bend Police Department's telephone recording system crashed and had to be restored from a backup. After the restoration, Police Department Communications Director Karen DePaepe listened to some recordings to determine whether data loss had occurred.
DePaepe, while listening to some of the calls, heard comments from Captain of the Investigative Division Brian Young that "she found to be inappropriate," according to a 2015 federal court decision that laid out the facts in the case. The court document also indicates that Young's line was recorded without his knowledge because the officer who previously had his phone number had asked for the line to be logged. "At that time, no one intended to record Young's line," the document reads. DePaepe then told Boykins about the recordings and, according to the court, the police chief "decided to continue the recording practice to gather more information before making a decision on what to do."

Seven months later, according to the court document, Young found out his line was being recorded and asked for the recording to stop; nothing was done at that time. Two months later, Boykins asked DePaepe to "give him relevant recordings of Young's line to keep them as evidence," according to the court; the communications official "made five audio cassette tapes for eight recordings that occurred between February 4, 2011, and July 15, 2011."
