California woman who berated man wearing MAGA hat reported missing, believed to be in hiding

What she did to the man in the hat was not ok. Making threats against her, if that is what caused her to go into hiding, is not ok either. People really need to be careful about bringing fights online. It escalates things well beyond the scale of the original conflict. The weaponization of social media is getting scary.

On so many levels with little to no way a person can defend against if some wacko(s) or other person(s) decide to try to destroy someone's reputation.

By her own admission and words, this is exactly what she has planned for the older fellow with the MAGA hat;

Mankey wrote, “I’m going to publicly shame him in town and try to get him fired and kicked out of every club he is in. I am going to go to his house and march up and down carrying a sign that he hates black people. I am going to organize protests where he works and make him feel as unsafe as he made every brown person he met today.”

Clearly, events did not unfold as she anticipated.

I do not agree with her methods, but no one should be sought out and harassed and threatened; her, or the guy she sought to do the same to......Bob is correct, social media is becoming weaponized, and there are more than enough idiots in the world willing to act on anothers words to harass, intimidate, and threaten.

That's really silly. Objectively, MAGA, has no racist connotations. And subjectively, it does not either. Rather, Trump haters pretend it does. Before Trump ran for President, I don't recall anyone claiming he was racist.

Objectively speaking, symbols do not posses objective meaning. Symbols are completely subjective in nature. MAGA to Republican chuds mean something completely different to the rest of the population.

You need to understand that the left wing interpretation of "freedom" is different than the right wing version. Those on the left believe that freedom only exists when one no longer needs to be exposed to danger, differing opinions, requirements to provide for one's self, etc. Essentially, the left wing interpretation of "freedom" is that of a life unencumbered by responsibility, need or any other encumbrances upon one's person. If someone else is encumbered then that's their problem but that other entity has no right to act in a way that obligates anyone else to do think or observe anything not of their own choosing.

Thank you for your futile and fact free attempt at controlling the messaging from the Left.

It's what he does.

I'm weary of it.
Yes, of course we have our share of loonies. This lady who couldn't control her temper is one of them.
Luther thinking he's "scored one for the team" by painting all liberals as being the same as this lady simply makes Luther the EQUIVALENT OF that lady.

So wear YOUR hat proudly Luther, only it doesn't say MAGA, because you're not making America great.

But Turtle was not talking about whether Trump had a racist past. He was saying that people only started calling him a racist once he started to run.

Yep, and none of that proves that supporting Trump has any racist connotations. We know, that for years, left-wingers like to accuse anyone who isn't a lefty, is "racist". It is drivel and the race card has been thrown so many times, that it has zero worth anymore.

"Republican chuds"

cute

I remember people calling Trump a racist when the Central Park Five thing was a thing.

I really think that this trump card of the left is starting to lose its effectiveness at shutting people up, due to over-use.

Even before that when Trump was sued in the 70's for discriminating against blacks in one of his housing projects because he thought it would lower the value of the properties.

I do not think nor have I ever thought that you were the least bit racist. Trump's racism on the other hand extends DECADES before his run for office, as anyone who lived in the NY area would tell you.

Plain and simple: Trump thinks black people are niggers. Trump does not like niggers.

Really? After the literally hundreds of posts on this forum by Trump supporters about their white victimhood? Whole threads devoted to the subject. You've got a really bad case of projection there. Better lay off Sean Hannity for a few days.

I haven't seen all that many white victimhood posts. Let alone whole threads.

Well, at least we now know what the Klan supporting asian women of DP think.

It seems self evident that is your word choice for your message, not Trump's.

Did this woman threaten the man in the MAGA hat, or just tell him what she thought of him? Did she even use profanity? From what I read, the worst she did was call him a racist, and shout that out to everyone in that Starbucks. My friend was threatened with actual physical harm, even an "I ought to shoot you." Berating someone is not the same as threatening to shoot someone. It isn't whataboutism on my part, since I used my friend's incident to illustrate the difference.

She did worse ... she was calling for a "lynch" mob on her facebook page to make his life hell.

"Anybody in Palo Alto know this freak? He was sitting in Starbucks. I think he lives in Palo Alto. He will never forget me and will think seriously about wearing that hat in my town ever again," a woman who has been identified as Rebecca Mankey posted to Facebook Monday with pictures of the man.

"If you see him in this hat please confront him. You do not want to be the person who didn’t speak up as we slipped into fascism," the post continued.

She then commented on the post that she was going to stand outside of the man's job and "make him feel as unsafe as he made every brown person he met today."

Would this not be harassment? A crime.

I haven't seen any real proof of that. I admit, I really didn't pay much attention to Trump until he started his run for president. The ONLY discussion I recall about Trump was from a friend who was in Atlantic city for an archery event many years ago, and his division shot the early morning line (like 7 AM). he was exiting a Trump hotel, when he and a co-competitor ran into DT who was-according to my friend-accompanied by two of "the best looking black hookers he had ever seen", and he noted to me-well that man's no racist!

Lots of landlords or developers get sued for "racial discrimination all the time. So do federal agencies-including the DOJ when the head of it was African-American Eric Holder as was the Dept of Veterans Affairs when the head of it was African-American Togo West.

Me neither, I think the claim was wanting in proof.
