He's venal, amoral, he's Godly

If racism, cheating, lying and fraud are examples of 'godliness' then there's a warm, uncomfortable corner of the other place waiting for the moron.

All our lives we've had it shoved down our throats by pastors and priests (along with other things I hear), church elders, our parents, teachers, the law and the values of a christian society about what is good, godly behavior. Anyone standing on the street today is qualified to make that judgment because societal norms are not subjective.

Trump fails most tests by any reasonable metric. He is misogynistic, foul mouthed, misanthropic and discriminatory; he's uncompassionate, greedy, venal, lustful, combative, dishonest in the extreme; he's an adulterer, a defaulter a defrauder and a corrupt politician. And that's just the Trump we can see in public.

Post of the week.:applaud

Michelle Bachman might be one of the biggest idiots to serve in Congress in our generation. Calling Trump “godly” pretty much ends the debate.

I love when she and her fundamentalist buddies were praying to God for the House to stay red. I guess God left them on voicemail.

Agreed.

What makes me unwilling to be timid about this is the persistent "judgement" from those like Michele Bachmann calling Trump all these things, then when we challenge those that lean right and/or christian on this forum there is an immediate backtrack to "that is between him (Trump) and God" or "that is between her (Bachmann) and God."

But all of this is a classic illustration of the insanity of religion.

The suggestion that a thrice married, adulterer, serial liar, aristocratic, authoritarian, fragile ego, rant and hate filled, and "grab em by the *****" attitude filled President is by Bachmann's account "highly biblical, and I would say to your listeners, we will in all likelihood never see a more godly, biblical president again in our lifetime."

How do people reconcile all that?

As for Bachmann praying to God for the House to stay Republican, or praying to God to help Trump in helping Israel, or even going so far as to suggest end times... again, the insanity of religion.

Not really, since she's being kindly. You know, the peace and love aspect of The Bible?

Jesus told the mob to stone the prostitute, if any were without sin.

He never said sinners can't love God.

Would you agree that General Patton was a godly man? I would say he was and he admitted to reading his Bible "every goddamn day".

Being godly doesn't mean one is perfect, or without sin. I don't the TDS'ers even know what "godly" actually means.

What does it mean, preacher?

If it's a politician you like, we are not to judge him, even if he cheats on his third wife with a prostitute, and then lies about it. Because, after all, we are all sinners.

But if it's one you don't like, it's OK to be seething with outrage for weeks over him wearing a tan suit to a press conference once.

Is there something in the Bible about "blessed are the hypocrites"?

I honestly don't believe you have actually convinced yourself Trump fits this definition. But you have to go through the motions anyway.

I don't care, either way.

Anything to avoid disagreeing with a Republican saying something positive about Trump. If Bachman had said "Trump is ten feet tall" you would have said "well what kind of feet?"

Well, it looks as though we have a difference of opinion.

On the one hand, we have judge Napolitano a (gasp!) Fox News contributor referring to the Mueller report "t did show a venal, amoral, deceptive Donald Trump, instructing his aides to lie and willing to help them do so. That’s not good in the president of the United States.” LINK

On the other hand, we have Michelle Bachmann saying that "[Trump] is highly biblical, and I would say to your listeners, we will in all likelihood never see a more godly, biblical president again in our lifetime." LINK

So my question to the Trumpsters on this board: Can both these opinions be true simultaneously?

He may, in fact, be a biblical president. The bibles, after all, are full of contradictions and inconsistencies. Maybe saying someone is "biblical" means that they are indefinable as moral OR immoral, ultimately because they are so full of **** that you can't trust ANY thing they do as genuine either way.

Yes, Trump is biblical. He's old, incoherent and inspires the dumbest of people to acts of brave bigotry.

If Bachman said water is wet, you would bitch about it and blame Trump. :lamo

It's really irrelevant when someone like Michelle Bachman claims that Trump was sent by God because nobody really cares what she says. It's another thing entirely when our Secretary of State Mike Pompeo states in an interview aired after visiting the Western Wall in Jerusalem with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and answers a question;

he was asked whether Trump could be just like the biblical figure Esther, who is said to have saved the Jews with help from God. "Trump may have been sent by God to rescue the Jewish people from Iran" “As a Christian, I certainly believe that’s possible,” he responded. He went on to praise the Trump administration for ensuring that “this Jewish state remains.” “I am confident the Lord is at work here,” he said.

Okay, that's frightening because in my mind and maybe a gut feeling too, I think Israel wants support from the U.S. to totally destroy Iran outright, just bomb the hell out of them and annihilate them completely.

Let me know when she says something sane and accurate.

See what I mean?

No, I don't. The only quote in this thread is calling Trump "godly" which is clearly not sane or accurate.

And as long as they're at it, why not go for a twofer and annihilate Palestinians at the same time?...

Or heck, just go for the whole enchilada and start WW3 and get it over with already?

Michelle Bachman might be one of the biggest idiots to serve in Congress in our generation.

Still, much of conservative America looks up to her intellectually. As they did with Sarah Palin when she was relevant.

Calling Trump “godly” pretty much ends the debate.

Considering a huge chunk of America submit themselves to his word, I don't think it's that far off the mark.
