I am somewhat stunned by what I see in America today. Sure, there are a few Republicans, like William Kristol, George Conway and maybe a few others, putting country ahead of Party. But, there numbers are few. The vast majority, however, are more than willing to let our democracy go to hell in a handbasket in order to defend their guy.

When did this happen?

90's? 2K's? Is it a Trump thing? Do the Russians own everyone from Lindsey Graham in SC, to that Fresno crook, Nunez?

Is it really a case of Right Wing Zealotry: a firm belief that infanticide and buttsex is taking the nation to the edge of flood waters falling from the great Sky Daddy above? Inquiring minds want to know what the hell happened?

We just weren't prepared for this type of frontal attack from Russia and evil entities in Congress. Each man or woman that's elected to Congress takes an oath of fealty to the United States of America not to the president. These Republican Congressmen who will fight to the last breath to defend this bastard should all be run out of Washington on a rail.
 
the current situation really got going in the 1990s, IMO.

When did Party Loyalty Supersede Patriotism?
When NATIONALISM superceded PATRIOTISM, that's when.
 
it was already getting pretty bad through the 80s and 90s, then it started getting worse in the early 2000s under Bush, but i think what really pushed it was the Tea Party movement.

that really doubled down on all of the worst aspects of the Republican party, under the guise of fiscal conservatism.

I don't know when it arose. It has probably ebbed and flowed throughout the country's history. But the Founders were certainly worried about what George Washington referred to as, "the baneful effects of the spirit of party".

And Jefferson wrote,

I never submitted the whole system of my opinions to the creed of any party of men whatever, in religion, in philosophy, in politics, or in anything else, where I was capable of thinking for myself. Such an addiction is the last degradation of a free and moral agent.

Democrats conspired to spy on Trump in order to give Hillary the election and all the while claiming they are seeking to destroy Trump for patriotic reasons. They have cast God out of their party which explains why they are so blind to their own wickedness.

I voted for the best candidate in the primaries: John Kasich; and when the final choice came down to Hilary or Dumpster fire, I passed on picking anyone on that part of the ballot: Johnson and What's her name were non-starters.

Party loyalty has never superseded patriotism...but money has. For a long time...I'd say since the mid 80's. Money supersedes both party loyalty and patriotism...at least for the politicians.

For the party rank and file, stupidity supersedes everything.

:roll: The Democratic Party is still the party of racial and social segregation and division - and still following the Democrat slavery rule of "one drop" purity. To the Democratic Party, anyone who isn't 100% white in ancestry is forever banned from being "white" and permanently assigned to "minority status."

Explain against how President Obama was the first "black" president, rather than the first "bi-racial president?"

The reason is because NOTHING is more rejected by the Democratic Party than the races mixing. If so, it is such an unthinkable offense that any white person who has children by anyone who isn't white has doomed every generation after him to "minority" status. The same mindset that controlled the Democratic Party during slavery and during Jim Crow laws still dominated the Democratic Party. That's why the Democratic Party then and now incessantly talks about people's race. Nothing matters more to them than knowing who is white and who isn't. That has never changed.
