A simple question for all Trump Supporters

Just as it is implausible that Russian interference didn't affect the last election (as is often claimed), given the narrow margins. Less than 100,000 votes in 120 million. But it worked out for "their side" so, "what, me worry?"

Add that to trumps ego and its no wonder he hasn't done anything about Russian influence in his favor.

Doing so would make his win less about him.

And he can't have that.

Why would you ask someone to prove a negative?
The burden is on you to prove your thread premise.

I already proved the OP with the links shown. Trump is not giving the election meddling crisis the same amount of interest or commitment that he is giving to the border crisis. It has been proven without a shadow of a doubt. I asked the poster to prove the opposite and he hasn't.

In spite of over 200 replies, not one single person has proven the opposite.

I have gotten responses that show that Trump has done a few things to address the problem, such as an executive order and "some" monies directed to solving the problem. Nonetheless, no one has been able to show that he is giving this major problem anywhere near as much or even close to the amount of interest, commitment, or fund expenditure than he is giving to reducing the illegal alien problem.

The problem of election meddling has the potential to be much, much, much more damaging to our nation than the illegal alien problem, simply because putting the wrong person in a key place (such as Trump in the White House as president) can ultimately destroy our entire Democracy. No amount of illegal aliens can do that. Our elections are the fiber of everything we are and Trump is not addressing the issue anywhere near how he is addressing other issues of lower importance.

It begs the question of the OP, WHY IS HE NOT DOING IT!

There are three methods I have seen in this thread for attacking the issue: Deflect, Dissemble, Demean. With a single (meaningless) exception, no substance has been provided in response.
Deflect- usually begins with "but Obama..." Or "but Democrats...", which is a clear "tell" that what follows is both inaccurate and/or irrelevant.
Dissemble- the more blatant the lie the less substantive the response. Some, of course, cover their tracks better than others, but it is often a specie of deflection anyway.
Demean- this is a constant.

The one exception was the Executive Order that was cited. Of course we all know that it is meaningless, including the provider, because no money has been allocated to enforce anything (even in secret). There are, I believe, true or sometime Patriots who are concerned about the issue, and no doubt were behind the EO, but what they accomplish is usually done despite, rather than because of, what Trump wants. The examples of that behavior are legion (just read the Mueller report). Several cabinet officials and agency leaders have left over such clashes.

But the larger picture is that nothing is done about it because it is not in the Republican party's interest to do so. Russian interference operations align (and overlap) with their own. They don't want verifiable records, or unhackable systems. They don't want popular election, generally. They produce their own disinformation. This is true at both the national and State levels. Suspicion of Russia plays into other vote suppression schemes - voter ID, roll purges, closing polling places, gerrymandering, and the like. Don't expect any support for vote protection from the GOP, it's against their interests. This is a feature, not a bug.

Absolutely true what you have said.

One of the first lessons that I learned as a salesman was not to sell or try to convince the buyer to buy but to have the buyer convince himself that it was the right thing to do by giving him all the "pertinent" information and let him work it out in his own mind to the common sense conclusion. Perfect example in selling life insurance is to ask the father of a family whether he wants to ensure the economic welfare of his family (which most fathers do) and then bring the cost down to a level where it is impossible to say no. The cost of the insurance might be $365 a year, which could easily be an obstacle to buying, but if you ask him "aren't you willing to spend $1 a day for their benefit?, it becomes easy to make the decision. In addition, I would ask "is spending $1 a day to ensure the welfare of your family more or less important than spending $1 a day for a cup of coffee that you -purchase every day at Starbucks?"

Giving people the information that is relevant and having them analyze it themselves from a common sense point of view is the best way to sell successfully and at the same time have the buyer feel good about the sale.

Turning to Trump and this OP, I asked people whether they care about the health of our election process (which most people do) and then I posed a simple question as to why the president is not giving it as much importance as it deserves and comparing it with something they are familiar with and asking what is more important, a few less illegal aliens or health of our election process.

Though I expected what the Trump supporters would say, it is still very troubling to know how many people prefer to spend $1 a day for coffee than on protecting their family economically from the death of the bread winner.

It does goes to prove that not everyone has common sense or truly cares about doing the right thing. Trump supporters are all in that group.

The Global Engagement Center part of the state department's initiative to stop Russian propaganda, aka interference into our elections, is actively engaged in a process you continue to say isn't happening. YOU'RE WRONG!

Get your head away from fake news, and learn something positive that is happening under the Trump administration. It is happening! It got a slow start because money was tied up when Rex Tillerson was still secretary of state. He dragged his feet and the 120 million that was allocated to him was lost when the next fiscal year began, but stop with the lying. You're not fooling anyone here who cares about the damn truth. Your thread premise consists of nothing but :bs.

State Department Global Engagement Center targets Russian propaganda, ‘deep fakes’

The State Department is ramping up a secretive counter-propaganda center to fight Russian disinformation efforts in nearly two dozen nations as part of what Trump administration officials say is an expanding push to crush Moscow’s “fake news” influence operations around the world.

While Russian disinformation is a core target, officials say the push is tied to a wider overhaul of the department’s Global Engagement Center an outfit that had been plagued in recent years by bureaucratic bungling and an unclear mandate to target aggressively “big-power propaganda” undermining America’s image abroad.

“We’re going on offense and we’re going on offense against major state adversaries in the propaganda and disinformation realm,” the center’s acting Coordinator Daniel Kimmage said Tuesday. “Russia looms large in our priorities and after that, China and Iran.”

It’s an initiative quietly backed by President Trump, even as he has faced sharp criticism from many Democrats and some Republicans who claim the administration is “soft” on Russia, despite Mr. Trump’s record of leveling sanctions against Russian officials and stepping up U.S. military aid for Ukraine in its clash with Moscow.

The Global Engagement Center (GEC) previously focused exclusively on countering jihadist propaganda around the world. Mr. Kimmage, who speaks fluent Russian, said the initiative has been bolstered by an influx in funding in recent months.

With New Appointment, State Department Ramps Up War Against Foreign Propaganda

A Navy and intelligence veteran and former television news correspondent will take up a key position at the State Department to tackle foreign propaganda efforts as part of the U.S. government’s response to Russian disinformation, terrorist group messaging, and Chinese propaganda.

Lea Gabrielle confirmed in an interview with Foreign Policy that she will be named the new head of the Global Engagement Center, the State Department’s hub for coordinating counter-propaganda efforts worldwide. She will start the job on Feb. 11.

Gabrielle served in the U.S. Navy as a fighter pilot and later as an intelligence officer, with deployments in Afghanistan and Iraq, before becoming a journalist at NBC and Fox News.

In the interview, she cited China, Russia, Iran, and terrorist organizations as top threats that use propaganda to undercut U.S. interests.

“We have to realize that we are under attack by adversary countries and international terrorist organizations that are using propaganda and disinformation as a weapon,” she said. “They’re doing it because it’s cheap, and it’s easy, and because they can.”

Gabrielle will take over a small State Department office that became a political lightning rod amid feuds between the Trump administration and Congress over how to address threats, including Russian election meddling, in the wake of the 2016 presidential elections. The internal fight reflects a broader challenge the U.S. government faces in how to confront misinformation and propaganda from abroad.

The Global Engagement Center was initially stood up to rebuff messaging campaigns from terrorist organizations, but in the years since its mandate has expanded to confront propaganda and disinformation from around the world. Early into the Trump administration, it suffered from an unclear mandate and other bureaucratic challenges. In 2017, the center was dogged by funding shortages under former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, but money flowed to the center following bipartisan backlash from Capitol Hill.

‘Stand Down’: How The Obama Team Blew The Response To Russian Meddling

"Brennan raised the problem of Russia’s harassment of U.S. diplomats — an especially pressing matter at Langley after an undercover CIA officer had been beaten outside the U.S. Embassy in Moscow two months earlier. The continuing mistreatment of U.S. diplomats, Brennan told Bortnikov, was “irresponsible, reckless, intolerable and needed to stop.” And, he pointedly noted, it was Bortnikov’s own FSB “that has been most responsible for this outrageous behavior.”

Then Brennan turned to an even more sensitive issue: Russia’s interference in the American election. Brennan was now aware that at least a year earlier Russian hackers had begun their cyberattack on the Democratic National Committee."
"One day in late August, national security adviser Susan Rice called Daniel into her office and demanded he cease and desist from working on the cyber options he was developing. “Don’t get ahead of us,” she warned him. The White House was not prepared to endorse any of these ideas. Daniel and his team in the White House cyber response group were given strict orders: Stand down. She told Daniel to “knock it off,” he recalled.

Daniel walked back to his office. “That was one pissed-off national security adviser,” he told one of his aides.

At his morning staff meeting, Daniel matter of factly said to his team it had to stop work on options to counter the Russian attack: “We’ve been told to stand down.” Daniel Prieto, one of Daniel’s top deputies, recalled, “I was incredulous and in disbelief. It took me a moment to process. In my head I was like, Did I hear that correctly?” Then Prieto asked, “Why the hell are we standing down? Michael, can you help us understand? “Daniel informed them that the orders came from both Rice and Monaco."

Executive Order on Imposing Certain Sanctions in the Event of Foreign Interference in a United States Election

The good news is that states are on track to spend the majority of the money before the 2020 elections — which intelligence officials say are far likelier than the midterms to be a hacking target for Russia and other U.S. adversaries.

"News organizations have extensively covered the government’s election security preparations for the midterms. Ahead of Tuesday's vote, administration officials held numerous briefings on the issue and news outlets covered those efforts as well as the work of the tech industry to combat disinformation ahead of the election.

The president also promised that his administration would soon release a report on any interference that took place during the midterms, pursuant to an executive order he signed in September.

DHS said throughout the day Tuesday that it saw no evidence of election-related hacking by foreign adversaries, though it did acknowledge that those adversaries continued to weaponize social media to spread misinformation."

Stop the nonsense?

I have at no time stated that something is NOT being done. Something has to be done given that everyone else other than Trump worries greatly about this problem. My OP is not about nothing being done, it is about Trump not giving it the importance that he is giving to other problems and this is the biggest problem out there.

I have clearly stated this in just about every post but you and other Trump supporters are purposely ignoring the absolute fact that Trump is not giving this problem the attention it deserves and it is likely because he believes it de-legitimizes his presidency. He is not man enough to say "Okay, so Russia helped me win. It is fact, but NOW I am going to make SURE that it does not happen to future presidents". If he did that,, it would make him a president that really cares about the nation but given that it would deflate his ego, he cannot bring himself to even say that.

My whole OP has been about proving that Trump cares more about himself than he does about the country. It seems though, that this is a concept that is beyond your ability (and that of all Trump supporters) to understand.

This LACK of commitment and LACK of public outrage from him about solving the problem is what the OP is about. It is NOT about him or the government not doing anything, it is about the limited amount that is being done in COMPARISON to what he is doing about the border crisis.

$120 million was dedicated last year to election security. Trump is asking for $28 billion in ADDITIONAL funds above what was already agreed to for border security. Why is he not asking the same amount and/or commitment from himself for this problem.

You proving that something is being done is missing the point. Prove to me that Trump is as committed to solving the election meddling as he is to border security and I will "stop the nonsense"!

Do you understand what I am saying?????

One simple question regarding your post.

"how does bringing up Obama help solve the election meddling problem we have NOW?"

AND..........if the states are the ones that are supposed to solve the problem, why not let the states themselves solve the illegal immigration problem?

AND.........how are the states themselves supposed to address the information attacks that go through media such as Facebook, which can't be addressed by the states themselves?

Allocation of funds is public knowledge and as such, no assumption. In additional, asking for additional funds is either done through the budget or through passing a request through Congress that requires votes to approve.

The new budget proposed by Trump includes $9.6 billion for cyber security but there is a snag here and that it that it is being requested for the DOD (Department of Defense) and does absolutely nothing for election meddling. That money is for better cyber security having to do with the military defense of our country. None of it goes to Homeland Security that is in charge of stopping Russian election meddling. Trump has not requested from Congress any additional funds for election meddling.

Last but not least, Trump has been trying to drum up support for building the wall to lower the amount of illegal aliens coming. He has talked about it publicly almost every single day and went as far as stopping the government for 34 days and then to call is a national crisis, all of this to get the support he wants for the border crisis. Trump has not even mentioned publicly support for Cyber security to prevent election meddling. He has not made it of importance and has not requested any additional funds to make sure it gets done.

Please explain this if you can, given that preventing election meddling is more important than lowering the amount of illegal aliens coming in.

Guess what? the DoD is likely most responsible for cyber security and you STILL don't know what they spend. United States Cyber Command - Wikipedia

Tell us what lies you believe regarding election meddling? Not sure we are on the same page here.

One simple question regarding your post.

"how does bringing up Obama help solve the election meddling problem we have NOW?"

He knew about whatever election meddling was happening and did nothing about it.

Yet billions are spent on these technologies every political season.

So all these savvy businessmen and campaign designers are spending billions on the equivalent of astrology, spritualism?

If it didn't work would they spend so much on it?

The answer is in your comments. Russia spent $100,000 and actually most of it was after the elections so....

My question to all Trump supporters is "Why is Trump not doing something to protect our nation against election interference by Russia (or anyone else)?

If Trump's repeated claims that the Security of our nation is the most important thing, why is he not addressing our free elections interference with the same strength he is addressing the border crisis. He wants $28 billion to build a border wall to stop illegal immigration but has not asked for one single additional penny to ensure free elections that if hacked could change our entire country.

WHY?

By the way, I promise to read all Trump supporter answers even if on my ignore list.

Putting up this thread was likely the most successful thing I have done on this board since I joined. After more than 230 posts, no Trump supporter has been successful in disproving the OP objective, which was to prove several things:

1) that Trump cares more about his ego than about the country
2) that Trump supporters are blind to facts, at least to facts that disprove their theories.
3) that Trump supporters care more about Trump than they care about their country
4) that Trump supporters have no problem with incompetence
5) that Trump supporters are not worried about election meddling

It is sad but true. The next step is to find solutions to our country's problems that can be accomplished without depending on Trump supporters.

As far as I am concerned, this thread is closed. I will not be responding to any other posts. People on ignore will now be back on ignore with a couple of new ones added.

Likely the DoD will go offensive on anyone trying to subvert any elections. How much money did Obama approve for such causes?

"how does bringing up Obama help solve the election meddling problem we have NOW?"

In order to resolve a problem one generally needs to identify the issue. Since the russian cyber attack issue clearly started many years many ago one must come to terms with the hows and the whys of such things. The previous administration clearly did not make an appropriate choice in not reacting. Why do you think that would be the case?

Why do you think the states are the only one addressing these issues?

Would you not favor a multi tiered defensive posture? Which is the case of course.

Since the russians clearly attacked the US, would you favor the razing of identified russian cyber intel buildings we are aware of?

The Russian troll factory at the heart of the meddling allegations

Stop the nonsense??

I do not agree that you should stop the nonsense. Your nonsense is part of the reason many aspects of the country are in better shape than they were before and quite possibly why 2020 has a pretty good chance of going republican again.

Your premise is and was incorrect from the start.

"#Protect2020 is being executed in coordination with the Election Infrastructure Government Coordinating Council (EI-GCC) through the focusing of election security efforts to the alignment of five key priorities:

Increase engagement and support to local level elections officials
Increase awareness of risks associated with inconsistent and insufficient resources
Mature risk initiatives through Sector Specific Agency Councils
Apply lessons-learned from 2018 to review and refine the communications mechanisms and content supporting the subsector
Drive improved security practices in future election infrastructure

In addition to executing these priorities, CISA has outlined ambitious goals for the 2020 elections. These goals include:

Achieving 100 percent auditability by 2020 so that all votes cast in 2020 and subsequent elections have a corresponding auditable record
Improving the efficiency and effectiveness of audits
Incentivizing the patching of election systems
Working with states to develop current and target Cybersecurity profiles by utilizing the NIST framework
Increasing election officials' awareness and participation in Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance (DMARC), Hyper Text Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS), CISA's free election services, Election Infrastructure Information Sharing and Analysis Center membership, and Albert sensor deployment
Increased adoption of cyber best practices by state, local, tribal and territorial (SLTT) governments

Ensuring that the United States' electoral process is secure and resilient is one of CISA's top priorities. Through #Protect2020, CISA is partnering with election community stakeholders to ensure the continued vitality of the fair and free elections that characterize American democracy."

"“Unlike the previous administration, we've done a lot of work on that issue,” Trump told reporters when asked during a wide-ranging White House press conference whether he believed that foreign powers had interfered in Tuesday’s midterm elections.

“If you speak with the FBI, speak with the Department of Justice, speak to Homeland Security, we've spent a lot of time” on election security, Trump said. But, he added, “it gets very little coverage in the papers.”

“This is very important, and we have been working very hard on China and Russia and everybody else looking into our elections or meddling in our elections,” Trump added. “People tend not to write about it, but we have worked very hard.”"

I am sure there is more to be done in an ever evolving landscape.

The answer is in your comments. Russia spent $100,000 and actually most of it was after the elections so....

That was just on ads. That doesn't include payroll. Infrastructure. Do you know how much they paid Google and Facebook? LSS, it cost more than that.

Cambridge Analytica was in the same business. I'm sure they weren't cheap.

Probably would still be if they thought about the possibility of hidden cameras.

The rage on the Bernie threads would have cost more than $100k if an Amercian company had done it.

It's funny, I went back and read an article Trix had posted earlier. Turns out it actually supported the OP. (What happens when people rely on headlines without reading the article)
In response to American intelligence findings that Russia had used social media to meddling in the 2016 U.S. election, Congress pushed through legislation giving the reconstituted GEC with a new, broader mission: expose and counter foreign state and non-state propaganda aimed at undermining the U.S. and its allies around the world.

However, the GEC languished at the start of the Trump administration, amid the president’s call for sharp budget cuts at the State Department and a confusing department reorganization pushed by then-Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.
Once again, it was something pushed by Congress and neglected by Trump... the article also noted it was a program started by Obama in 2011, which may explain why Trump was agin' it, and that the Republican Congress allowed funding to lapse in 2015.

I think, my friend, you got your answer to the OP question. They can't answer a simple question.

I think, my friend, you got your answer to the OP question. They can't answer a simple question.

Your answer is skirting the question.

Saying that Obama did things wrongly does not help in any way to solve the problem now. The problem needs to be resolved by the person in charge now and finding blame in what happened in the past does nothing to find a solution, or even address the fact that the person now in charge is not even trying to find a solution.

Last I will say on this topic. Accept it or not is your prerogative. I have no desire to say the same thing 10 times. I am 100% right and you are just not willing to accept the answer.

Somehow my answer to your post was connected to a different one. 《Glitch》 I was agreeing with you and your OP. I've not seen an "answer" (well one) to the OP. As I've noted before, Trump has worked against his "administration" regarding Russia. Every time they or Congress make an anti-Putin move, he undercuts it. Every. Time.
