Young Americans Too Fat and Dumb for Military Service

What is the rate percentage for disqualifying heel spurs?

Inquiring minds want to know?

There is a big difference between todays soldier and the soldier of decades past. At one time we were deferring prison sentences to join the military. Today if you have a misdemeanor on your record you are not getting in. There is no comparing the elite soldiers of today to the draft when people that couldn't tire their shoes were handed a rifle and were sent to be killed.

That is at the heart of it. The I-phone, social media educated generation is naturally lazy and uninformed.

I don't think they're lazy. They just didn't have the same experiences in their teenage years thst the proceeding generations had.

When I was a teenager, I was working real jobs: farm work, construction, during summers and on weekends. Labor laws have become so strict that teenagers aren't allowed to do that kind of work.

I saw it first hand when I was working in the oilfield. 18-21 year olds that just plain didn't know how to do manual labor. They worked themselves to death. They didn't know things that I'd learned when I was 15.

Well, they should make up their minds, then.

Solve the problem or quit whining about the problem.

Except your "answer" isn't a solution.

The military needs more qualified recruits, not more bodies.

I already told you about looking at history through a partisan lense. It makes you look ignorant.

:lamo

The sheer hypocrisy of someone like you saying that is hilarious.

Oh, and as I said before, despite what you claimed, the fact remains that the Confederate fighting man didn't even crack the top five of his time, much less in all of history.

Why do you keep mentioning the confederates? Are they very important?

They were a white supremacist state that went to war to try and preserve slavery and got smacked down....hard.

A lot of young people are too fat because a lot of Americans of ALL ages are too fat.

Too many Americans have a crappy diet and get very little exercise (they will take the elevator to the second floor instead of using the stairs).

If there is another war, thank goodness that it will presumably be fought by machines in the main.

Or park as close to the door as possible at the gym parking lot.

The Southern United States soldier is the most superior in history. I've already proven that to you.

What red staters lack in depth they make up in breadth. Of the 13 states with the highest rates of disqualification, 11 are red states. In fairness, however, every state has a disqualification rate over 60 percent with only five (northern) states barely under 70 percent and Hawaii, the healthiest, at 62 percent.

Generals Again Warn That America’s Youth Are Getting Too Fat Or Dumb To Join The Military - Task & Purpose

Lots of military in my family, one brother, a father, five uncles, my wife, her sister, bunches of nephews.
I'm pretty sure we have all the major branches covered with at least one in each of them, too and quite a few saw active duty in wartime, too.
I love our military and our vets.

That said, one of our family members was a "troubled teen" and while it wasn't a judge that said "military or jail" to him, it WAS his father. Dad basically told him that there was no doubt in his mind that his boy would wind up in jail sooner than later and he would NOT bail him out, so it was either join the military or get the Hell out of the house and never darken their doorway again.

So the kid joined the Coast Guard, the only branch that would take him, and before his second year was up he wound up in "The Fat Boy Program", as my Navy wife refers to it.
Another year later and they booted him out because he wouldn't maintain his weight within operational requirements.
He's still a big boy now, and he married a big wife and they have big kids, and by big I do mean OBESE.

And yes, they're in Texas, where "everything's bigger".
I'd seriously volunteer a guess that his wife's ass is at least a yard across at the hips. :lamo

No, not exaggerating!
And the most amazing thing about it is, he was never obese before and it's not like that part of the family is congenitally obese. In fact, most of them are SKINNY!

Uh.....no you didn't. You simply declared that.....and provided no evidence to prove it.

Even just using non American armies from the period 1860-1875 the confederate soldier was (just listing off the top of my head) inferior to the British, Prussian/German, French, Paraguayan(during the same period as the civil war the Paraguayans managed to fight off Brazil andArgentina for years) Austrian and Russians.

In all of history, well.....just to use two examples the Mongols or Romans would have thrashed the Confederacy so fast your head would spin.

Fat and out of shape recruits has been a problem for decades. In the early 90’s I was a Navy Recruit Company Commander (Drill Instructor in other services) in Great Lakes, IL, and it was very common to have a majority of recruits in any Company that could not do 5 real push ups or sit-ups. 18 year olds who couldn’t do 1 single push up was not uncommon. Most of them couldn’t run the starting run distance of 1/2 mile without stopping and/or puking.

Thank goodness back then we were able to build up their bodies with lots of exercise. Shortly after my tour there ended and I went back to sea, “stress cards” were introduced. If a recruit felt stressed/nervous about anything a CC did, the recruit could just hold up their stress card and take a kind of time out to pull themselves together.

Jesus!

I pointed out that most of the famous United States soldiers, who excelled at the craft are from the south. Some are black, like Doris Miller, Carl Brashear and Lawrence Joel. I'll be happy to do it again.

Yeah, that’s not proof of anything. There are a ****ton of famous soldiers from Germany, Russia, England, France, Japan, China.....being famous doesn’t make one “the greatest fighting men of all time”.

Gee bud, you do that, and I’ll list soldiers from the rest of the world. I mean, if you are up for being humiliated again, you might as well :lamo

I’ll start.

Finnish sniper, killed at least five hundred men, survived being shot in the face.....and did it all with 1930s equipment.

The other side of that coin is, the height/weight standard is rigged, because it doesn't allow for performance to be factor in.

I saw several good soldiers get kicked out because they were chuncky. They passed their PT tests, did their job, but that didn't matter. This one dude I knew at Fort Hood was a Bradley gunner. He shot 800-1000 points on the gunnery range, every time. Scored about a 280 out of 300 on his PT test, but because he was 20 pounds overweight, his re-enlistment was barred and had to get out.

I am sorry to hear that you are unable to cope with the fact that minorities tend to be stupider than whites.

It’s true, but you don’t need that much intelligence to be a grunt. Which is why a lot of blacks enlist.

Wtf

I don’t suppose our enemies observe the same protocol on the battlefield?

There are fewer black soldiers per capita in the infantry than any other MOS

The United States armed forces weren't desegregated until 1948.
