Oh GOD...:lamo
I know I'm going to catch Hell for this but I don't care:
The old man was out of town and Mom was bored out of her mind, so she looked up a movie and took my dumb twelve year old ass to see it with her.
It was Ryan's Daughter, which on the face of it, sounded like it might be a harmless picture.
It starred Robert Mitchum, who I later learned was one of those old school actors who my mom was quite enamored of.
I learned this years later because my folks were joking about what the old man would do if Bob Mitchum showed up.
Ummmm, Ryan's Daughter had a fair bit of graphic portrayal of the physical act of love in it and I was chagrined at first but I got caught up in the story, which was actually pretty good.
Now, my 85-something GRANDMOTHER, who seldom went out without her "girlfriends", decided to go see a movie one afternoon. A nice German Jewish lady, she thought "Last Tango in Paris" sounded like it might be a lovely film about dancing in Paris. It was one of the first X-rated feature films shown in America, but instead of running out of the theater, she stuck around and watched it, all of it, and told her friends, who of course were immediately scandalized.
Picture a bunch of old German Jewish ladies all clutching their pearls and saying
"Mein Gott in Himmel, how could you Erna!!", and making tsk tsk noises and sucking in their breath.
Not my grandmother. In her thick German accent, she said:
"I am a grown woman und if I vant to go see a dirty movie, I vill go see a dirty movie! I just would have liked to know in advance, but it vass a very good dirty movie just the same! Maybe you should all see it!"
Naturally that scandalized her girlfriends even more, surprise.
Mom did not take me to see porn but my grandmother obviously did enjoy her some dirty movies, I guess. :lamo
