Traditionally, in most countries, if a sector tries and fails to destroy a nation, the perpetrators are rounded up, tried for treason, and are sentenced severely. Not in America. We fought a civil war in which a large portion of the country decided that preserving their economic system, a system that relied heavily on human bondage slavery, was more important than preserving the nation itself. And when it was all over, the insurgents were defeated, the rebels were shut down. But rather than punish those who lead the rebellion, the nation decided to show magnanimous mercy toward them. There were no trials for treason, no convictions, no retribution whatsoever.
Even today, some people want to celebrate the rebellion that failed.
