Electronics, computers. He's talked quite a bit about ROV's.
If he wants to learn how to repair as well as operate computers there are several Navy ratings to choose from;
AT - Aviation Electronics Technician (mostly shore based, but do deploy as part of Air Wings). Install, trouble shoot, repair technical avionics.
CTM - Crypto Tech Maintenance (maintenance refers to maintaining/repairing electronics, CT’s carry the highest security clearances, a bonus to future potential employers)
ET (nuclear) - Electronics Technicians trouble shoot and repair electronics in onboard nuclear propulsion systems. Toughest academic program in the Navy (no ****), quickest advancements in rank, extra “special pay”, states with nuclear power plants snatch these guys up when they get
for excellent pay/benefits.
ET (non-nuclear) - Electronics Technicians trouble shoot and repair various electronics systems found mostly in a ship’s CIC (Combat Information Center). Like “nukes”, they have numerous highly (read valuable) technical follow on courses.
EW - Electronics Warfare Specialists operate, trouble shoot/repair most of their own equipment used in collecting data from enemy forces. Several highly technical follow in schools.
FC - Fire Controlmen, operate, trouble shoot, and repair electronic systems related to various weapons systems.
ST - Sonar Technicians operate, trouble shoot, and repair sonar equipment and underwater fire control systems.
The Marines, as part of DON, attend Navy schools for virtually all electronics training, so, in that respect there is no advantage over the Navy.
Hopefully the above gives you/your son a little more insight to aid if he decides to Go Navy. If I can help with any other questions or concerns, feel free to holler. :cheers:
