Tomorrow he becomes the longest living American President ever. Bush senior, as of today held this distinction. (94)

I just wanted to salute him.

Although I did not vote for him and would not vote for him at any time, one cannot not notice that he was sincere, honorable and honest.

A complete contrast to the demon in the White House today.

Can the Trumpets admit that Jimmy is a far superior human to Trump and has the kind of "character" that we desperately NEED in the White House today?

Jimmy was a terrible president who failed the American people in every way. He went on to become one of the best expresidents our country has seen. He deserves most if not all the criticism he gets for his time in office just as he deserves most if not all the praise he gets for his work after leaving office.

Not that I disagree in principle but could you site a few of the things he did that "failed the American people in every way?"

His terrible economic policies with sky high rates. His miserable managing of the Iranian revolution and hostages. The oil crisis and gas lines. The boycotting of the Olympics. Those are just the cliff note points

unfortunately for Carter, he became president at a time of economic upheaval caused by OPEC and the soaring cost of energy.

Fortunately for Trump, he became president at a time of economic growth.

Luck of the draw.

Jimmy Carter was not a very good President, but he is one of the greatest humanitarians this nation has ever produced. There is no comparison between Carter’s character and that of the absolute lunatic in office today.

He did not create these situations.

What do you think he could have done different that would have made that time better?

It was indeed a very rough economic time. I'd say worse post WW2 when it came to changing day to day life for all Americans.

Heck the banking melt down under Bush resulted in the lowest interest rates of my lifetime. So it made life easier for many.

Been a tougher negotiator first off. Been willing to use the power of the military more effectively. Focusing on jobs I think would of helped. A tougher stance on drugs and rebuilding infrastructure. Tech has come so far it's difficult to remember exactly what tools we had back then.

Carter/Mondale 2020
Make America Dead Again

Carter was and still is a man of strong personal conviction and moral fiber.

And that made him a terrible politician.

President Carter brokered a deal known as the Camp David accords in which he brought two historical enemies (Israel and Egypt) together and worked out a peace treaty between the two countries that has held to this very day.

This, in my opinion, was the greatest accomplishment of Carter's presidency.

The problems with Iran were due to romsfeld and Reagan.

Why do Republicans consistently collaborate with hostile foreign governments to get elected???

I have no problem with Carter once he was taken from office. I personally prefer presidents who step aside when their time is done, but he used his time after office to do the things he believed in without having to worry about politics and policies. He's accomplished a lot.

I'm sorry to see Bush Sr. go, certainly, but if the oldest living President is an achievement to be had, he's earned his place. Interestingly, at that age, the man still seems to have some kick left in him.

It is amusing that the Dems now praise President Carter.

Smart people are chuckling at this sudden change of heart.

They know that the website POLITICO was right on when it recently headlined an article this way: Democrats find a foil for Trump in Jimmy Carter.

Why is it amusing? Sudden change of heart? You call 40 years of retrospect, comparison of the past three divisive administrations, a 'sudden change of heart'?
