Funny, I was just about to say the same about 'righties'. For an 'honest' debate to move forward people need to state facts and back up facts with genuine statistics and links to articles that aren't left or right leaning and as a matter of fact, people should use multiple legitimate mainstream sources to validate their claim.

But Trump supporters will claim black is white and white is black and denounce any legitimate article and facts. When someone brings something here that's merely propaganda or a right-wing conspiracy theory that's been debunked multiple times, people shouldn't even take the bait and respond to it or call it out as non-factual and prove your point by siting valid sources.

I disagree, MrWonderful. Debate is always possible as long as you are able to approach people with respect and in the spirit of generosity. Some people on the political left, both here and elsewhere, are completely intellectually dishonest and will attribute the worst motivations or attack your character for disagreeing with them no matter what. But this is also the case of some on the political right. I would not say that makes up a majority or even a plurality of of people on the political left either on this board or elsewhere.

Some, just some act like this. It's a small percentage. This is a very active board with almost all parties represented in some way. There are people in each group that annoy the crap out of me by being here just to lecture and tell you how much better they are than you. The vast majority are reasonable folk who will debate on the level you choose to take with them.

Yes, the race card is annoying. So is the socialist card when misapplied or a dozen other examples. Maybe just ignore those who aren't here for honest debate and engage the rest?

Exactly, that's my point. It's nothing but deflection and the inability to accept the truth as truth, or facts as facts. People would rather grasp a wild conspiracy theory because Sean Hannity says it's true rather than think beyond Sean Hannity and fact check it with multiple sources.

When we site sources we're siting several, Wall St. Journal, NBC, ABC, Bloomberg, Politico, The Hill, Washington Post, NYTimes, etc etc., all legitimate credentialed sources. But whey they push a completely false narrative with no substance to it they're going to link alt-right conservative non-mainstream pundit, blog or source like Briedbart News or The Daily Caller. Those are NOT mainstream, they are right-leaning conservative biased sources so how can anyone take that as factual?

The NYT and Washington Post have lost all objectivity. They are clearly mouthpieces for the Dems now. This isn't really arguable. The big three networks and Bloomberg are also all decidedly liberal. There are few truly objective sources left. What one has to do is wade through what they are claiming and see if it makes any sense and also to see if what they claim are facts, really are facts. That 75% of people no longer trust the media says much.

When people are using Alex Jones and Breitbart as their "reputable sources" for citations, I will point out their ignorance, and explain what they should be doing.

When people support Trump, I will point that they are supporting a racist flimflam POTUS.

When people defend/support/deny Trump's racist behavior, I will point out that if you support racism, you're likely going to be labelled a racist.

When people claim vaccines might give children autism, I will point that they are being "anti-science" (ie they need to learn some science before they comment negatively on it), and ignorant.

When people claim a wall is going to stop people, I will explain what a ladder is, and explain that most of the rest of the world knows how to use one.

When people deny evolution, I will explain that they are being ignorant of science.

When people claim the world is 6000 years old, I will point out that they are being ignorant of science.

When people claim that Jesus will do something, I will point out that there is just as much evidence that Santa Claus exists.


If the truth is causing you that much pain, I suggest sticking with FOX News, and Alex Jones. They do a splendid job of avoiding and obfuscating any truth that might make you think.
