Weld hammers Trump over McCain attacks: You're a 'national embarrassment' | TheHill

Former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld (R), who last month announced a committee to explore a GOP primary challenge to President Trump, slammed the president Tuesday as a “national embarrassment” over his recent criticism of the late Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).

“@realDonaldTrump's continued attacks on John McCain are contemptible and beneath the dignity of our American democracy,” Weld tweeted Tuesday. “While @realDonaldTrump's senseless attacks on allies have become all too common, his defamation of a deceased American hero has reached a new low and raises serious concerns about his mental stability and moral integrity.”

Trump must have a serious problem if he is still fighting with a dead senator.

Trump is entitled to dislike McCain. I don't like McCain either.

The faux outrage coming from the anti-Trump camp is to be expected.

Trump is campaigning to denigrate McCain's honorable service to include as a POW.

I have no doubt that because of it Trump is regarded as a guttersnipe throughout the Pentagon.

Gutter rat.

Trump has psychological problems.

Well, I guess Trump has shut McCain up for good. So far McCain hasn't mustered the courage to comeback at Trump accusations.

Trump is correct to point out the despicable things McCain did to him and his associates. Being dead doesn't give McCain a pass.

Trumps comments over the last couple days about McCain are 100% accurate.

It's hard to explain decency to deplorables.

The man is recently deceased. His family is still morning him. There's nothing to be gained by insulting him now. Most decent people get that. Deplorable human beings don't get it. Nothing can be done to explain it to them.

I'm sure that a gazillion people are aware that this battle against McCain's corpse is just a continuation of Trump's hatred of the man starting with his "I prefer war heroes who didn't get captured" drive-by.

Trump started everything off by attacking the guy's military service from the get go.
There's very little a man like Trump could do to become even more of a coward than he is now at this point, and I suspect he's not aware of what he's doing to his reputation.

Keep it up, Dennis Davison, keep it up! :lamo

Maybe he's at a loss for words to come back at our psycho president.

Maybe Trump doesn't care about insulting the dead because he knows that everyone will talk badly about him when he passes. Some may even throw a few parties.

Who? Who I ask you cares what Bill Weld thinks about anything? Weld is a flaming joke!
Weld ran for vice president in 2016 on the Libertarian ticket. Do you remember what a disaster that was.
And now he has decided to run against president Trump. The guy despises president Trump.

Not everyone only democrats, liberals and a few RINO's. ;)

That tends to be the theme with Trump: he responds to criticisms/attacks on him rather than starting it out off blue.

I think you are agreeing with me but I am not sure..

Nonetheless, if you are or aren't, here's how I see it.
If one knew how this all began, one would realize Trump tweeted Ken Starr's criticism of the late John McCain.
Would you, the collective, be a fan of a vindictive Republican senator who went out of his way to obtain an unverified, uncorroborated filthy dossier and get it to the FBI?
Neither should Trump.
Trump has a right not to hush this up either.... McCain was no friend to this country. He went out of his way to get Trump until his dying day. Oh wait, even after it. He dis-invited the POTUS from attending his funeral. Who goes to their death this angry?

Long before Trump the base of the Republican party despised McCain as a senator. They felt he dissed his party's principles and platform on a regular basis often voting with Democrats on major issues. Every election cycle he would run as a conservative and after re-elected his voting record said otherwise.

Actually McCain and Romney, two failed candidates against Obama disgusted the Republican base and they were not thrilled with their choices and many didn't show up to vote. Others felt dirty and held their nose to vote for both of them. Romney and McCain pushed by the Republican elites and that in part is how Trump ended up with the nomination. During the campaigns of Romney and McCain is when there were many Republicans leaving the party registering as Independents because the party had lost their way of defending basic principles like less government control. As the primary went forward and it looked like the only two left standing were Trump and Cruz the Republican elites got behind Trump because they saw Cruz as a threat. After all one of the things that Cruz was running on was shutting down the Chamber of Commerce which is one of the biggest lobby groups that is backed with a lot of corporation money that they freely disperse for votes from Congress critters to fill their coffers in favor of them on both sides of the aisle. And often those votes are against the constituents they represent.

Another reason Trump, Romney, and McCain got the nomination is our MSM always promotes the Republican candidate they think the Democratic candidate has the best chance in beating. Early in the primary they court candidates in the Republican field they think has the least chance of beating a Democrat. They are really friendly to them and once they win the nomination they turn on them. This time with Trump, their calculations were wrong. A horse of a different color.

Well hopefully Trump doesn't have his military or bikers do anything to McCain's daughter that could be very bad, very bad.

How mature, your response. :doh

I see 'notice me' Romney is back to his usual routine. He's the new McCain. How predictable.

Weld the one the OP is about and Romney are both former governors of Massachusetts and both ran for president and lost. Weld ran in 2016 on the Libertarian ticket but was formally a Republican and now he is considering challenging Trump which means he is switching his party affiliation again. He's an idiot.

Two time presidential campaign losers, both Romney and Weld.
Maybe they should do lunch with Hillary.
What makes these fools so full of sour grapes?
I often felt this is what fueled McCain's angst as well.
They all just can't get over themselves.

I am a lefty. Nothing in common with McCain. One can dislike McCain's politics without dishonoring his service, without spitting on his grave. Trump did both. He is a low life, an embarrassment.
