Once again this weekend Trump went after McCain with a tweet. I just so not understand the hate trump has for McCain, who died 7 months ago. And do not say it was the vote that killed the attempt to end the ACA, in 2015 he said that McCain was not a hero, well before that vote. Now I did not agree with McCain politically on many issues, but he was one of the last real statesmen in the congress and we need more of those on both sides of the political divide. Is it because McCain was a real hero and Trump is only known for his foot problems? I just do not understand. And I also do not understand that most of the GOP just stands back and says nothing. This is especially true about Lindsey Graham who was supposed to be a good friend of McCain. Can you tell me why Trump hates McCain sooooo much?

He hated McCain because McCain was loyal to a higher power than him (no, I don't mean God; I mean the country and the Constitution), and because McCain earned and commanded the kind of respect that Trump never will. People followed McCain because of good will and respect, whereas fear and the potential for enriching oneself are the only possible motives for following someone like Trump.

Because McCain was everything Trump will never be.

Wasn't McCain opposed to some of the Obamacare repeal stuff? That big thumbs down vote?

Trump supporters love it when Trump trolls the nation. He's trolling the nation, his supporters eat this **** up.

Because McCain is by far the better man. Trump is just smart enough to realize that.

Trump is President. McCain never was.

But being President doesn’t fill that void Trump is trying to fill.

He hates McCain because McCain wouldn’t kiss his ass. And McCain threw shade on him from beyond the grave.

I have wondered the same. Lots of Republicans have been critical of Trump without receiving the same kind of animosity. I also don't think it had anything to do with policy issues. It was a personal animosity. And I do think part of it was jealousy. Politics aside, McCain was widely respected by people on both sides. He was easily in the top three of most respected members of Congress, let alone the Senate. And one of the things Trump seems to want more than anything is to be respected. And Trump will never earn the kind of bi-partisan respect McCain had. But I also think part of it was due to the backlash he got from criticizing McCain. In what was likely just his typical speaking without thinking, Trump made the disparaging comment about McCain specifically and POW/MIAs in general. The result caused people from across the political spectrum to trash Trump over it. And Trump is the kind of person to double down rather than apologize so we shouldn't be all that surprised it escalated to the point that Trump continued to go after him, even in death. That is who Trump is.

Because it's controversial and he needs the distraction.

Because McCain never bent over and kissed Trump's ass. Trump is very thin-skinned. Other Republicans like Graham and Cruz have pissed Trump off, but they then eventually kissed his ring and ass and made up with him.

McCain never bowed to Trump, and in Trumpland that's a big no-no.

You got to be a special kind of a'hole to continue insulting someone after their dead.

Because Trump is an ungrateful, disrespectful asshole that ****s on the dead who honorably put their lives on the line for their country while he did his damndest, being the coward he is, to avoid putting himself in harm's way, then bragged about it as the bodies of true American Patriots rolled down conveyor belts in coffins at Dover AFB.

And McCain can't fight back, because he's dead. Bullies like easy targets.

They both didnt like each other. It was a mutual thing
The difference between Trump and McCain was that McCain wasn’t in the least intimidated or impressed with Trump.

Lindsey Graham should man up and confront Trump publicly for assaulting the memory of his great friend and real American hero.

You mean like being President??

That meant something before Trump. The presidency is no longer an office worthy of respect. I never thought I'd say that, never have said it until now, but with Trump, the office has been permanently debased and degraded.

It's not complicated. Trump doesn't like criticism and McCain criticized him. Further than that, McCain comes up now because it's been made know that he was responsible for spreading the fake dossier. McCain was a hero but he didn't die as one, he died as someone who sold out his former brothers and sisters who wear the uniform. There wasn't a war he was unwilling to send them to die in for the defense industry profits. I have nothing but disdain for him. Doing something admirable decades ago doesn't give you a free pass for the rest of your life.

In the United States, when a national security concern falls in your lap, you hand it off to the FBI so they can investigate it properly. You don't bury it because you're afraid it might end up hurting your party down the road, because that's putting the welfare of your preferred political party above the welfare of the nation.

Where did you come up with that bolded lie?

Nothing was buried. The dossier was known and not picked up because it was trash, McCain didn't have exclusive ownership of it. As a Senator McCain elevated to a level of legitimacy that it did not deserve. He did it out of spite because he was a spiteful man.
