22-Year-Old New Zealand Man To Appear In Court For Sharing Mosque Attack Video | Zero Hedge

A 22-year-old man will appear in a New Zealand court today following a Friday arrest for allegedly distributing the live stream of the Christchurch mosque shootings, reports RNZ.

Police said he was arrested during the initial stages of the investigation on Friday. He has been charged under the Films Videos and Publications Classification Act and will appear in Christchurch District Court. Police said they did not believe he was directly involved in the attacks. -RNZ

New Zealand authorities reminded citizens over the weekend that they face up to 10 years in prison for simply downloading and storing the video, and up to 14 years for distributing it.

Everyone knows once something is uploaded to the internet, it is impossible to remove it.

The shooting was a terrible incident but it's amazing how the NZ government doesn't realize that over reacting and tiring to censor the internet is playing into the asshole's plans.
 
Meanwhile, the New Zealand police have sent notice to the owner of the Kiwi Farms internet message board demanding the preservation of IP addresses and email addresses associated with posts related to the Christchurch shootings.

While we suggested earlier that New Zealand authorities could simply be trying to investigate whether Tarrant had online accomplices - it's clear from the arrest and prosecution of the 22-year-old man that authorities are actively pursuing people who had nothing to do with the attack, for exchanging information.

Interest in the video ranges from morbid curiosity to a desire to analyze it to determine Tarrant's motives, methods, possible accomplices and whether or not it was a "false flag" - as was floated on Friday by Rush Limbaugh.

Conducting an investigation and trying to find accomplices is one thing, but this seems far past just an investigation, this seems like they're trying to censor the incident and keep people from looking into themselves.
 
And while Kiwi Farms owner Joshua Moon told New Zealand authorities that he doesn't "give a single solitary **** what section 50 of your faggot law say about sharing your email," adding "**** you and **** your ****hole country," it should be noted that New Zealand is part of the "five eyes" intelligence alliance with Canada, Australia, the UK and the United States - which means that in addition to the sharing of investigatory and surveillance information between countries, Moon may be subject to extradition - if not by treaty, by a stroke of the pen from Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

If either party in the U.S. tried to make rubber necking a felony and include jail time I would strongly oppose it

Since you do not know the laws in NZ, maybe you should find out what they are before writing an OP. It might be against their laws to post such info on any media as they do not want to make a kind of hero out of those who kill people. You do not want to give others the idea that you can get your 15 minutes of fame by killing people.

You can't really apply the Barbara Streissand principle to this because the shooting was already a global phenomenon. So at a certain point it stops being "advertisement" and just becomes dissemination of hate speech.

Well they can work with google, social media sites, ect, to block links(in their country) and take down post. They have no right to harass people in other countries or try to censor stuff on the internet.

Most people will be horrified if/when they watch the video. Just because one asshole might be inspired by it, is no reason to start arresting people and harassing citizens of other countries.

Most people didn't catch the live stream. Since the video was so compressed and looked so crappy, there's a lot of people that think it was staged.

So at a certain point it stops being "advertisement" and just becomes dissemination of hate speech.

There's a lot of videos of jihadist attacks all over the internet still.

Just because the retards that are in charge of the NZ government are to scared to bring up the real issue(i.e. people are pissed about immigration) doesn't mean they should arrest people over nothing, censor the internet or harass people in other countries.

The video is just a video.

And there is absolutely the NZ government can do to stop people from watching it.

Over reacting just makes them looked dumber than they already do.
