Donald Trump is taking his fixation with Saturday Night Live to a new level.
The President tweeted in the early Sunday morning hours a threat to have the NBC late night comedy series investigated by a federal agency. The offense? Mocking him.
“It’s truly incredible that shows like Saturday Night Live, not funny/no talent, can spend all of their time knocking the same person (me), over & over, without so much of a mention of ‘the other side,'” the president wrote. “Like an advertisement without consequences. Same with Late Night Shows. Should Federal Election Commission and/or FCC look into this? There must be Collusion with the Democrats and, of course, Russia! Such one sided media coverage, most of it Fake News. Hard to believe I won and am winning. Approval Rating 52% (total lie, Trump has never even reached 50% nationwide), 93% with Republicans. Sorry! #MAGA”

Of course, entertainment programming mocking newsworthy figures is protected as free speech. Trump seems to be referring to the “equal time rule” which mandates that U.S. broadcast TV stations give equal air-time opportunities to opposing political candidates in prime-time if requested. But Trump is president, not a candidate, and SNL is in late-night and, again, parody. There’s also FCC’s “fairness doctrine,” a regulation that required networks to give balanced coverage to matters of public controversy. The FCC eliminated the policy in 1987.

That man is an embarrassment to all Americans.

The FEC and the FEC should look into a comedy skit? FFS. There is no depth to that man's ignorance.

Well, NBC is supposedly a network which should present things fairly and without a bias. And, while SNL is comedy, it is also political. As such it should be giving equal time to everyone. How about reserving ten minutes directly after the opening skit for comedic rebuttal? Equal Time: FCC Broadcasting Rules and Regulations

From what I can tell, he has never, ever missed a feeding...

A feeding of vanity or food, yes. And I kind of hate myself for the cheap shot, but it's hanging right out there.

SNL is not a news show. The FCC cannot force comedy shows to give "comedic rebuttal".

Trump just needs to grow the **** up and accept that he is not a dictator.

He's the biggest baby on the planet.

Wait ... I apologize. Whale babies are much larger at birth. And elephant calves can be larger.

But he definitely has to leave the species to find another baby as big as he is.

Well this will be interesting for comedians; I don't recall their being a fair play rule in their topic selection. It would be fascinating to see what exactly a comedic rebuttal looks like. Since SNL is a comedy show, it's not presenting its topics as facts so I don't see why there needs to be a rebuttal. I suppose one could see the future of this being comedic rebuttals during stand up routines where the focus of the skit gets a chance to challenge the routine? Weird. Now if this were a news show/punditry I could see this making more sense.

We already knew that Trump is a thin skinned, spineless coward too caught up in himself to see anything beyond his own egocentric narcissism. He skips the Correspondents’ Association Dinner all the time because he cannot bear to hear anything negative about himself. He's a conman who cries everytime someone says something negative about him. No matter how deserving the negative comments are.

It's amazing too see how thin-skinned this guy is...but, he's perfect for those he represents.

Fox does that already....They have that jackass Greg whats his name...along with stupid blonde bimbo and other assorted idiots

What makes this particularly sad is that is was a rerun...

I think it really comes down to there being more people who dislike him than vice versa and this is a way to "level" the playing field. The thing is it changes nothing except bring more government into the mix for something unproductive. In the free market of comedy Trump tends to be the butt of a lot of jokes, and this is just whinging that he doesn't have an equivalent level of support from the entertainment sector. So he's going to suggest government intervention when he's supposedly championing the deregulation of policies which protect people from harm (environmental/consumer protection policies)? That's taking the piss by a long shot.

But NBC is supposed to be a MSM network. They shouldn't broadcast shows such as Samantha Bee (yes I know that they don't) or host shows that are one sided politics. SNL has a left wing agenda, as does Samantha Bee.

This really does encapsulate so much about our President:

"Every Saturday night the President watches 90 minutes of sketch comedy without laughing and then goes to bed."

Brendan O'Hare on Twitter: "Every Saturday night the President watches 90 minutes of sketch comedy without laughing and then goes to bed"

Trump is such a fraud. This on a Sunday after SNL was showing a rerun in their usual Live time slot. I should have looked to see if Trump just recycled the tweet he posted earlier this year thus in fact he just retweeted in response to the same damned show repeated. That would be sooooooooo Trump.

Really? What, are we going to start requiring comedians to make jokes about everyone equally? That isn’t how freedom of speech works. Either he is tooSTUPID to understand that or he is a wanna-be fascist. Or both.

I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and just assume it is because he is stupid.
