Chris Wallace: No Way Trump Will Win In 2020 With Just His Base | HuffPost

And that seems to be all the president cares about now, Wallace tells Fox News’ Shepard Smith.

Fox News host Chris Wallace told colleague Shepard Smith on Friday that there’s no way Donald Trump can win a second term with just his base — and the president doesn’t seem to care about anyone else now.

Smith asked if Trump is simply going to “stay with the base, placate the base and forget everybody else and just figure out a way come 2020?”
==================================================
'Even with polling that indicates as much as 40 percent of eligible voters may be “ever-Trumpers,” that’s “not enough to win an election,” Wallace emphasized. “So he’s going to have to expand his base.”

Which makes me worry about Trump pulling a 'Wag the Dog'-style scenario just before the election. Something like invading Venezuela because the Russians have an air base there, or human rights aid for the starving Venezuelans. Changing presidents during a war is a tough trick to pull off.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: The GOP is not large enough to win elections based on the strength of only their base. While both parties need Independents on their side, the GOP needs them more than the Dems. Trump has done nothing to expand his support outside of his core base, and has alienated independents, who never supported him much in the first place. The 2020 election is the Democrats to lose at this point, though if recent history is any indication, they can mostly certainly screw that up big time.

What if Trump wins in 2020 and refuses to leave office? He might declare himself King or something.

He likes signing those executive orders. Maybe he'll sign one that suspends the Constitution due to some trumped (pun intended) up national emergency?

Chris Wallace is a dope,He belongs on CNN.

:lamo
Trump could never win the Republican primary in 2016
Trump will be slaughtered in the 2016 general election
Trump will be impeached the first year

Thousands of messages, dozens of polls - all gloating and sneering Trump can't possibly win.

This is the unending comedy routine of Democrat partisans and talking heads. Wallace was, is and will remain a never Trumper - and he like all the rest have been 100% wrong 100% of the time year after year.

1. Trump isn't a "wag the dog" kind of guy.

2. Wallace is a never Trumper in disguise.

I think Wallace will be unpleasantly surprised come Nov. 2020. But don't worry, he'll try to make everyone think he knew Trump would win all along. He's good at that.

Nobody was as stunned about tRump winning than tRump. The Dems didn't figure on a strong anyone but Hillary vote.

I don't see tRump declaring an emergency once this trumped up 'crisis' at the border is shot down in court. I see the GOP trying to paint any Dem who runs against tRump as a socialist, tax us all to death, take our guns, send our jerbs overseas, anti-Christ to try and lure independents over.

Dunno how well that works a second time... :peace

He's right, if anyone knows anything about how elections work. He needs more than his base to win. He needs independents and he needs to bring over Democrats.

The Republicans aren't even fully behind him.

He's also right that Trump cares about nothing but his base. That's his narcissism working against him. He adored the accolades. They give it to him. Like Jim Jones, that works fine for him.

Wallace and Smith clearly do not respect conservatives and Christians, judging by the way they belittle Trump's "base" as if his base is something evil.

Can someone define his 'base'? Who do people think his 'base' is composed of? My thoughts on who this base is composed of is the alt-right and extremists, fanatics, etc. It does not include all conservatives.

I would define his base as the 30-35 percent or so of voters who will vote for the Republican candidate no matter who it is. The Democrats can't count on about an equal amount on their side.

When now President Trump announced his candidacy, he didn't even have a base. Now it's 40% by Wallace's count.

One thing I've noticed, the never Trumpers are getting their excuses ready very early. That didn't happen in 2016 until a couple hours after the defeat.

What do you mean by that?

[/B]

What do you mean by that?

I mean there is a percentage of people in this country who will vote for the party's candidate in 2020 without even considering the other party candidate or thinking about voting third party.

That number is usually accepted to be about 30-35% of the voters falling into that poll, on both sides. That's what makes up the base.

Got it!

i would not joke about this. This is a very real possibility which I saw coming lomgggggggggg ago. .

How do they belittle Trump’s base? What do they say? How do they demonstrate disrespect for conservatives and Christians?

You need to document this number because it appears to be totally fictitious.

Opportunity lost too, for Trump. Had he found a way to appease the indies, he could easily be a popular president. But...alas. He was just a corporatist stooge, carny barker for idiots all along.

His only achievement: A huge corporate tax cut that did nothing positive for the people. But, it did jack up the deficit which those people now have to pay back.

Yup, Hillary had hired and decorated a large hall. Laid in dozens of cases of the bubbly, to celebrate her win. Had to send out for a few cases of the hard stuff to drown her losses.

And now, two years later, still with the excuses. Hillary lost. Get over it.

Now President Trump, the outsider, beat Hillary, the anoited one. President Trump was never going to be accepted. He won't be accepted in 2021 after his next win.
