Jews have long been referred to as "cockroaches" and "rats." The Nazis made films visualizing it.

It is the kind of thing you really, really should avoid saying, given the historical baggage it carries.

I never knew Ivanka was Jewish! Literally everything is about race for conservatives. It seems to be the only context you can frame anything and it aids your self-victimization complex.

In all fairness to Mr. Begala, he did NOT compare those two persons to that insect.

He just wanted to make the point that those two individuals are survivors. (Humans have been trying forever to rid the earth of those insects.)

Of course, many decent people (such as I) never, ever watch CNN, but we should not stoop to their level: Mr. Begala should not be falsely accused.

Within the context of the conversation, Begala’s assessment was spot on correct. It wasn’t appropriate for broadcasting publicly, but it was correct.

“What do you take from this book? Is it a sign that loyalty is preeminent with Trump?” Tapper followed up.

Begala answered. “No, I think mediocrity is. When you’re too mediocre for even Donald Trump, you’ve really got a problem. Of course they survived. Cockroaches are going to survive nuclear war.”

Nothing at all anti Semitic about it.

Unless Jews are immune to radioactivity then it isn't a slur.

"Anti-semitism" has been abused for so long its virtually meaningless.

I will put forward that much of its use is actually anti-semitic itself.

All criticism of Israel is called anti-semitic.

For that to be true the behavior in question would have to be genetic, inherent to Jewish people and no others. So when people call criticism of Israel antisemitic they're saying that its not a state misbehaving but rather Jews being Jewish.

This. Any time anybody sources the Daily Caller, I feel compelled to let the thread know that it's run by Carlson.

And I saw nothing anti-semitic about anything he said. He used the word cockroaches. Not Jewish cockroaches. Just cockroaches.
