Pelosi on Trump: "He's Just Not Worth It."

I just read the interview and, depending on the reader, "He's just not worth it", having been preceded by "Impeachment is so divisive to the country that unless there’s something so compelling and overwhelming and bipartisan, I don’t think we should go down that path, because it divides the country." could be seen as the current Speaker of the House admitting that there's nothing there to all these investigations and little hope that there will be anything.

So yeah, Trump isn't worth blowing all your political capital on because when it all comes out that there's no "there" there you're going to look incredibly petty, incredibly bitter and incredibly sinister in your political operations.

From the OP article
Do you feel that he has done anything that has been good for America?
"He’s been a great organizer for Democrats, a great fundraiser for Democrats and a great mobilizer at the grass-roots level for Democrats. [Laughs.] And I think that’s good for America.'

"When Trump was asking for the money for the border wall, why was it so essential that Democrats not give in?
Because it was wrong. I mean, when the president was advocating for a wall, that was a tangible, visible sign of discrimination"

Pelosi cannot bring herself to call out those who come in illegally as illegals.

That is very telling about Pelosi. Typical political answer.

No, no rational, sober adult could see it as that.

Pelosi meant that unless the Republicans grow a pair and hold Trump accountable for his crimes there is no reason to have an unsuccessful impeachment that makes Trump a martyr. She said nothing about whether Trump committed crimes. That is up to Mueller.

i'll wait for Mueller's report, but i don't see the point of impeachment right now with an election this close. just ****ing win and get him out of there, Democrats. just. ****ing. win.

if he has committed crimes, however, i'm fine with prosecuting him after he's out of office or even while in office. a president is not a king.

'Pelosi on Trump: "He's Just Not Worth It."'

Somebody's appropriate response to it: "That is how a liberal admits they do not have any evidence to impeach."

Pelosi seems to feel the same way about families who lost loved ones to illegal immigrants.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said in an interview that she opposes moving to impeach President Trump even though she believes he is “unfit” for office — her first definitive statement on the subject and one that stands to alienate members of her own Democratic Party who are intent on ousting the president.

“I’m not for impeachment,” she said in a March 6 interview conducted for a future issue of The Washington Post Magazine.

“This is news,” she added. “I haven’t said this to any press person before. But since you asked, and I’ve been thinking about this, impeachment is so divisive to the country that unless there’s something so compelling and overwhelming and bipartisan, I don’t think we should go down that path because it divides the country. And he’s just not worth it.”

‘I’m not for impeachment,’ Pelosi says, potentially roiling fellow Democrats

That simply means, The Democrats Don't Have Anything and The Witch Hunt Has Been a Huge Waste of Time, Money and Resources.

There is no point in a House impeaching a President when there is not enough support for conviction in the Senate. It would be mere theater.

There would need to be VERY hard evidence of VERY serious crimes for this Senate to convict. Not any old high crime or misdemeanor would do.

FWIW, Schiff has also expressed that impeachment "isn't worth it".

Adam Schiff: Impeachment gamble not worth it without 'very graphic evidence'

"In the absence of very graphic evidence, it would be difficult to get the support in the Senate needed to make an impeachment successful. Again, my feeling is let's see what Bob Mueller produces. But the evidence would have to be pretty overwhelming," Schiff told CNN.

That's a dramatically different story than he told a year ago - Schiff: 'Ample evidence' of collusion between Trump campaign, Russians
"There is already, in my view, ample evidence in the public domain on the issue of collusion if you're willing to see it," Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif, told reporters at a newsmaker breakfast hosted by the Christian Science Monitor. "If you want to blind yourself, then you can look the other way."

They don't call him Shifty Schiff for nothing!

But even Terry Moran at ABC says if Mueller doesn't find any collusion with Russians toward Trump it will be huge and then there is going to be a reckoning for Progressives and Democrats and the media.

My confidence level regarding a "reckoning" isn't terribly high. I really don't think there is a single Republican that could or would make the case that this whole thing has been a scam on the American people and Trump simply can't make that case on his own.

Cardinal: "This plate of spaghetti has nothing to do with Russian collusion."
Every Trump supporter: "CARDINAL JUST ADMITTED RUSSIAN COLLUSION IS A HOAX!!!"

This sure to deflate the world's neediest ego.

Will it also combine a sense of relief with disappointment at a lost great chance to fire up his base?

Truth telling time...

The Republican Senate will never vote to convict, not unless a Russian nuke explodes over Louisville, KY. (or something equivalent)
That's just a stone fact.

So, by pushing a House impeachment, one is pushing a symbolic gesture that will MARTYR the guy, and just like Clinton, his popularity will skyrocket, so what is the point right now?

If something happens that convinces a sufficient number of Republicans that he has to be impeached, TRUST ME...with or without Turtle Boy, those Republicans will sit down with Ms. Pelosi and make it clear that she can count on their support.
And then, it will BE THE REPUBLICANS who will march over to the West Wing and have a nice little chat with Herr Trump, at which time he will either resign or tell them "they wouldn't dare"....at which point they better "dare".

So, Nancy Pelosi isn't stupid.

I actually think this is wise.

Stop talk of impeachment, but continue multitudes of House investigations (as long as they can be supported) so that by 2020, only Trump's 33-37% base will be left supporting him. When he loses his re-election attempt, he will not be a martyr, but he will be a public laughing stock.

In the meantime, here's to hoping SDNY and NY state will dismantle his whole criminal enterprise.

History needs to see the Trump presidency as an abnormality and a huge mistake.
