but there are "allegations" of voter fraud, would it be ok for Trump to throw out the election results until it gets sorted out? I'm thinking it shouldn't take more than 4-5 years. He would likely have the support of all the incumbents in congress, right?

$50 says if he loses he will make some of the false claims that he and his alt-right trolling staff (like Miller and Sanders) have made in the past.

We here in New Hampshire are still waiting for the proof they claimed to have of the 3000 people Hillary Clinton's campaign bussed into our state on election day to illegally vote for her.

One of the hallmarks our our system that we can be proud of is the peaceful transition of power from one administration to the next even in times of different parties taking over. It has never even been a half serious consideration that it might be any other way and a president would try to stay on past their time. Trump now presents that dark cloud on the horizon.

One can easily see how - if he loses in 2020 should he still be in office and run - he might throw up the excuses that we saw before.... millions of illegals voting ..... fixed elections ...... the whole nasty thing which would allow him to discount the election results and attempt to remain in power.

I do not think this would be successful. I do not think even most of his own party would support him in this effort. But just the idea of it would precipitate a huge constitutional crisis that would be divisive and ugly and make todays present environment look like a Sunday church picnic by comparison.

Let us all hope and pray it never comes to pass.

Well, Trump claimed that there were "millions" of illegal votes cast in 2016. He even formed a task force to look into the matter. Of course, that group found nothing. Not even sure if they ever met or set an agenda before they were disbanded.

I'm thinking Trump must have a contingency plan for if the election results go poorly next time.

Trumpsters will undoubtedly claim that as president, he is fully within his authority to nullify the results of the presidential election if he chooses. All he has to do is declare it a national emergency. Easy peasy.

I liked most of your post, but after experiencing the past two years you honestly believe the Republicans would actually stand up to him? Scandal after scandal, we all thought "THIS must be the final straw where Republicans will begin to break from Trump", and time and time again we were dead wrong. They will chime in along with him about all the illegal voting and Hillary Clinton and blah blah blah.

Expecting decency and respect for our Constitution from Republicans is a naive and losing position, bud.

The task force fell apart because the states refused to play ball with it.

If King Tangface refuses to honor the election results, he can be escorted out of the building by secret service like any other nutcase would be.

It's not hard to understand why the states refused to cooperate. After all, they all had to be part of the vast conspiracy to get millions of illegal votes cast, right?

Trump can make sure they don't get away with it next time.

And I'll be waiting at the bottom of the steps to punch him right in his fat orange ****ing face.

I honestly believe losing the 2020 election would come as a relief for Trump...economy is likely to slow into a recession, deficit and debt rising, and ongoing legal battles. He got what he wanted in tax cuts for the rich and his businesses has benefited a great deal with him being President. If he loses he can sit back heckle and blame everything on the Democrats.

When he leaves office, whenever that might be, his real legal problems begin. He will have to answer subpoenas, he will have to produce documents. And besides that, Trump is not about the money. He's all about the adoration. He craves the love of his rallies. He won't want that to end. And, once he is out of office, the GOP elected ones will no long have to kowtow to his base.

Sure, tough guy...then the Secret Service will rip you a new one. And THAT'S when the raft of trouble you'll be facing will really start.

What evidence is there to have faith in our justice system when it comes to rich white men? Trump will get a slap on the wrist....And if he's voted out the pressure to lock up him up will dissipate.

What part of "rhetorical jab" do you not understand?

When tRump threatens to disrespect our democratic process, it's just a "rhetorical jab." Got it.

Aww dammit, they ran away. Was just getting warmed up. :(

When he makes a rhetorical jab during a campaign rally, you shouldn't get triggered.

This is trump being a show man, knowing very little what he's talking about and pandering to his base. He would of explored the option to not concede but our democracy is too strong for trump's baby tantrums. He would have been forced to concede.

You could be right - perhaps I am too optimistic to think the Republicans would not tolerate such a move - I sure hope I am wrong. I just that that would really be a bride (or three ) too far.

Trump will refuse to leave the White House, Obama will ingonre the constitution and declare himself dictator for life, Bush will fake a terror attack and call off the elections. All of those belong in the conspiracy theory forum. Anyone who actually thinks, not blowing smoke on an internet forum but truly believes, Trump will not leave office or accept elections results and Republicans would support him is an idiot.

This bull**** idea of president in power not giving it up is only believed by the stupid people of our society.
