Ah I see, moving the goal posts. Trump paid her off thru his lawyer to keep her quiet weeks before the election, it broke campaign finance laws, looking forward to Nov 2020 now that the American people know what they bought.

Rounds is simply adopting part of though not all of the "Edwards" defense.

The Edwards case is not applicable here. They are not remotely the same. Here are just two major differences:
1) Edwards did not have an employee admitting his guilt and admitting that he knew he was committing a crime nor admitting that he was "directed" by Edwards. Trump does have one (Cohen at least and probably Pecker and likely Weisselburg).
2) Edwards admitted that he had the affair in question falling on his sword as an ethical and moral position as a means to establish a sympathetic legal position (the "I am a terrible, terrible human being, not worthy of the Presidency or anything else. Hence I will just go quietly if you just pity this poor widower" defense).

Trump is neither a widower nor has he admitted the affairs, nor has he even attempted the remorseful, terrible human being that will just go away if allowed defense. I am forced to suggest that though not an Edwards fan the fact that he had established something of a reputation as a Public Servant while Trump has simply has a reputation as an epic dirtbag allowed Edwards to pull off falling on his sword.

Yup, believe it or not, Trump STILL has not admitted the affairs with either McDougal or Daniels.

The crux of Trump's defense from his own words is not the Edward's defense which Rounds is pointing toward. It is that Cohen was his "lawyer" and that Trump simply did not question the efficacy of what Cohen was doing because Cohen was his attorney, much in dispute which is why the haul from the Cohen FBI warrant was in the main NOT considered under Attorney/Client privilege rules. Cohen for purposes of his relationship with Trump has been considered as business employee with a law degree (and a pretty low rent law degree at that), not Trump's attorney.
