Migrant Families Arrive In Busloads As Border Crossings Hit 10-Year High:

The U.S. Border Patrol apprehended more than 66,000 migrants at the Southern border in February, the highest total for a single month in almost a decade.

Record arrests of Illegal-immigrant families on border bolster Trump's emergency claim:

The number of families snared trying to sneak into the U.S. soared by 50 percent in one month alone, setting an all-time record with more than 36,000 family members apprehended, Homeland Security officials announced Tuesday.

The government has also encountered some 70 groups of at least 100 migrants during the first five months of the fiscal year, shattering records and placing new challenges on Border Patrol agents.

Record immigration Surge at the Border:

Number has been steadily rising since fiscal 2015, when fewer than 40,000 such migrants were arrested

Arrests of families crossing into the U.S. illegally in the past five months hit a record, prompting the chief of Customs and Border Protection to say the system is at “the breaking point.”

From October through February, border agents arrested 136,150 people traveling in families for crossing the border illegally. The prior record for a 12-month period was 107,212, during the fiscal year that ended in September.

More than 66,400 people were arrested in February, making it the busiest month since President Trump took office and the busiest February since 2008.
The numbers were the sharpest evidence yet that, despite Mr. Trumps efforts to crack down on illegal immigration, the flow of migrants is only growing.

55 Migrants Transported to U.S. Hospitals Each Day, Say Feds:

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials report that agents and officers are referring an average of 55 migrants per day to hospitals. Over the past four years, this resulted in a taxpayer cost of $98 million.

U.S. Border Patrol Chief of Operations Brian Hastings told reporters in Washington, D.C. Tuesday that Border Patrol agents are facing both national security and a humanitarian crises. The challenges have been brought on by the massive numbers of family units and unaccompanied minors.

“We are committed to addressing these humanitarian needs but the current situation is sustainable,” Hastings said regarding Border Patrol agents being pulled off the national security mission to assist migrants with medical needs. “The increased flow (of migrants) combined with the stress of the journey, the crowded conveyances, and flu season has resulted in significant increases in the medical referrals for Border Patrol.

Currently, the Border Patrol is sending an average of 55 people per day for medical care,” the operations chief explained. “During December, this was as high as 63.”

He said that if the trend continues, Border Patrol agents will refer 31,000 people for medical treatment this year. This is up from 12,000 in 2018 — an increase of 158 percent.

And as your bitch ass hero trump works to destabilize Venezuela even more... expect more asylum seekers on our borders.

Thought Venezuela was a troubled country for its people long before Trump. Is that not correct?

That is as long as you take this approach....
Or, if you are a rational human being.

Let's start with the meaninglessness of the "10 year high:"

Southwestern Border Apprehensions FY 1960-2018.png

Border crossings are a tiny fraction of their peak over 20 years ago, and levels have been low for the past decade.

Today, most of the people who are violating immigration laws are entering the US legally and overstaying their visas. (They're also mostly Asian.)

Further, an increase in border crossings just shows that Trump's policies are failing to deter border crossings. Oooops.

There is no emergency at the border. Trump himself even said so. It's just a bunch of bull**** fearmongering, used to justify tearing up the Constitution, and to exploit people (mostly older white men) who are terrified of brown people.

^ Blaming Trump for the situation in Venezuela?

Yes it is correct. Trump is merely making a bad situation worse.

Piss off. To be respected you must reach this height ______________

You don't.

So you admit Obama and others have played a role in the situation. Your trend to just blame Trump continues.,

The problem at the US border is a complex issue. Congress has failed to act for many years to address the illegal aliens, drugs, and other border issues.
Yes, the US has a border security problem.

Interesting how you result to insults in some of your responses. Generally shows you have nothing to offer.

How do you not understand that to the bolded, the first sentence is the opposite of the second sentence.

Secondly, there is no problem at the border. Jesus... we are all just trying to survive in this world but have to do so by dodging all the right wing hysteria of fabricated fears and their overreaction to them.

Your post is coming from someone who has not a clue and just want to play devils advocate to get a reaction.
Have you ever lived in a border State?
Are you saying we don't have drugs coming across our border? Are you saying we don't have illegal crossings into the US?
I hope you are not representative of Progressives in the country.

(Federal agencies in the SW have an operational policy to not fight wildfires at night in certain areas known for being drug smuggling routes.) Other areas are posted to warn recreational hikers / campers of what they may encounter.

No matter how many times you repeat No Problem , does not make it a true statement. Congress needs to act.

What's truly amazing is that these people are coming to a nation where they know Trump hates them and where the level of oppression against the people is so bad that it requires a change in not just the ppolitical party running the government but in the type of government itself.

I live in a border state right now. New Mexico. Drugs crossing our borders is not a Mexican problem. It's a war on drugs problem. That makes it not a border problem. It's a stupid policy problem.

Notice how the bulk of right wingers dropping a load in their panties over the border are usually those not living in border states.

"45 year low on illegal border crossings this year. Ice and Border Patrol Agents are doing a great job for our Country. MS-13 thugs being hit hard."

Someone needs to ask Nancy and Chuck what they think about this news.

The news is of record numbers at the legal crossing border. This is where the jam up is. There is no report of increase in outlaw crossings. But the conflation, as in this thread, is inevitable.

Has anyone said there’s no problem on the border? (note that “not an emergency” isn’t the same as “no problem”).

I don't pay much attention to what Trump says or how he says it.

Lived in NM for years. Then AZ. Pretty much the southwest for me.

Yes, illegal drugs is a policy issue.
Can AZ send these people to your State, since it is" not a problem."

It's not a border issue. These people don't want to leave their homeland. They have to to survive. We are so busy going to the middle east to destroy nations and then nation-build them back up... why not just help these nations in our hemisphere establish their economies instead? Then the migration goes away.

That's a much wiser approach than watching Venezuela's economy collapse and then threaten to go to war with them... that's what makes people move. Violence and economics.

And I lived in AZ for 12 years and here in NM for the last 10. So 22 years of life in a border state.

The problem you speak of at the border is a symptom, not a cause. The cause is jobs for illigals. Illigals will never stop coming here if they can get jobs.

How do we fight this? Shouldn't we simply have ICE cruising the country hitting farm fields and construction sites, severely fining employers and rounding up illigals? That makes the most sense to me. What does Trump have ICE doing? From what I see they are huddled in Cali acting as glorified policemen.

Not only would cracking down on employers of illigals inhibit illigal crossings but it would likely greatly reduce overstayed visas. Why would they overstay if they couldnt find a job?

Ann Coultier had it right 3 or 4 weeks ago on Bill Mahr when she said the billionaires love illigal labor. Trump is playing both sides. He is advocating for a pointless wall to cater to his core supporters but he keeps ICE in check to make his billionaire donars happy with cheap labor.

Nonsense. "legal" crossings are not apprehended.

Family Unit Aliens (FMUA) are crossing our borders in record numbers. This fiscal year to date, CBP has seen a more than 300 percent increase in the number of family units apprehended compared to the same time period in fiscal year 2018. Today, family units and unaccompanied alien children (UAC) make up 60 percent of apprehension that have occurred along the southwest border and are predominantly from Central America, namely Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador.

Additionally, there have been 70 large groups of 100 or more individuals totaling 12,069 apprehensions, compared to what Border Patrol encountered in FY18, which was 13 large groups, and in FY17, which was only two.

Don't you remember the Bush years and after? Everything was his fault even if he had nothing to do with it.

Nancy told us... "The Trump wall/fence/barrier is immoral and that is the end of the discussion and Chuck is heeled at her feet as she pats him on his head.
