To me, what socialism means is to guarantee a basic level of dignity. It's asserting the value of saying that the America we want and the America that we are proud of is one in which all children can access a dignified education. It's one in which no person is too poor to have the medicines they need to live.

Zero on its own because an economic system is just a construct for running things. Same with capitalism. It's only when we attach these monikers to the crimes of a regime that the body count starts to climb - and i could as easily do it for capitalism, but that would be equally fallacious.

The mantra you're referring to is that communist governments and dictatorships - yes, sometimes with the help of a mismanaged socialist economy - ended up killing a lot of their own people or others in wars. I get that. They also often nominally did it 'for socialism' but that was just their replacement for the more traditional 'in god's name'.

But one cannot argue the kind of socialist policies practiced in modern economies like Norway or New Zealand are on a murderous rampage. History is far more complex than a slogan on a T-shirt.

they are no more socialist than we are!! We had highest corporate tax in world and relied more on top 1% for revenue than they did. Europe has 65% of our GDP. Even krugman says they have Eurosclerosis! Do you understand?

Until she calls for the businesses of the United States to be owned by either the state or worker collectives, I wouldn't call her a socialist. Not saying her policies are right or wrong, but I don't think it's appropriate to call her a socialist yet, even if she might (inaccurately?) describe herself as one.
