Stalin or Mao don't stand for socialism any more than slave traders stood for capitalism. People are killed by other people, not by theories of economics in books written by Karl Marx or Adam Smith, any more than the Sermon on the Mount written in Mathew 5-7 was responsible for the Crusades or the Inqusition. US society is part socialist, with tens of millions covered by govt health care, by socialist Social (!!!) Security, whose checks get delivered by the socialist Post Office, driving on socialist highways along with Americans going to see their doctor who was licensed by the socialist state, to get a prescription for drugs approved by the socialist FDA, as our country is protected by the socialist armed forces, with an even more socialist Mexico and Canada on either side.

Socialism comes from socius in Latin, meaning friend or ally. In governent is suggests a guiding principle that we are somewhat in this together. You are free to disagree.

Mao truly believed that China was to play a crucial preliminary role in the socialist revolution internationally.

You have learned 46 times now that socialism is when govt owns major industries not when it builds or manages or owns roads. If true all countries would be socialist. 1+1=2

Fine. He was a murderous dictator who claimed to be a socialist. Maybe he was. What does that have to do with Norman Thomas, the Labor Party or the various other socialist parties in Europe? Or for that matter with Social(ist) Security?

Here's a hint. After Hitler Germans stopped naming their babies Adolf, but after Stalin Mao Pol Pot and 32 others the left didn't stop using the term socialism.
They will not stop till 200 million are dead.

It's not socialism, it's democratic socialist policies.

They currently work in European countries that have higher QOL and HDI than USA. In that on average the people there have better lives.

I'm confused as to how policies from UK, Aus, Canada, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Finland (better places to live than USA, on average) will result in 200 million deaths.

Policies from those nations is all the Democratic Socialism asks for. Not Soviet Russia or Venezuela, lol.

You seem hung up on terminology rather than policy.

There are no socialist countries in Scandinavia. I really wish people would stop using words to mean just any old thing they want them to mean.

Look, Bernie calls himself a socialist. You are free to define it as Stalin did, and think of Venezuela as well. Socialism and capitalism mean different things to different people. Stalin, you,Bernie and I mean different things.

Socialism means big liberal gov't today. Socialists have learned they are far too stupid to run a businesses so now they just tax them to death to make welfare payments.

Capitalists are for free interactions between people so unless someone freely agrees to be murdered a capitalist cant be a murderer.

Socialists are natural murderers since socialism is based on govt violence.

Notice the way a conservative will be made to feel like a kindergarten teacher?

once tax rates are high enough you can call a country socialist which is why most call Scandinavia socialist. Do you understand?

When capitalism meant people exchanged goods without government interference. Never happened, though the theory is defensible. Maybe back with the cave men when people bartered.
