I am anti Trump. I will be voting for whoever the democratic nominee is.

That being said.

I'm going to criticize a democrat...

Dianne Feinstein's climate change talk with schoolchildren gets heated - CNNPolitics

I've been doing this for 30 years. I know what I'm doing," Feinstein says. "You come in here and you say, 'It has to be my way or the highway.' I don't respond to that."
"I've gotten elected. I just ran," she continues. "I was elected by almost a million-vote plurality, and I know what I'm doing. So, you know, maybe people should listen a little bit."
In the video, Feinstein also asks a girl how old she is as the girl says politicians should listen to the people they represent. The girl replies that she is 16.
"Well, you didn't vote for me," the senator says.

And this is why we need to get rid of the old, and bring in some new. Whatever her beef with the green new deal is, she has no reason to throw shade at kids beginning to participate in our democracy. And using an appeal to her own authority is not a good way to have a spirited discussion. I can think of a dozen legite responses she could have had. But nope, gotta be petty to a kid.

She's lucky i'm not one of her constituent's she would've lost my vote for this.

And Trump supporter's before you chime in to agree with me, know that i don't respect your opinion and believe none of you are sincere in your criticism of her. You are just looking for cheap jabs.

That is all.

Agreed, how she handled that is no better than how I would envision Trump handling something like this. She thinks popularity makes her right but it doesn't.

I have to agree. Nothing pisses me off more than when somebody older than me is condescending to me, and her reaction to this girl? This 16 year old will be voting in 2 years or less. Feinstein better not be getting too big for her britches.

While the girl is only 16, not a real SMART way for Feinstein to turn her on to Feinstein's views or the Dems for that matter.

Hell no it's not. This girl will be voting soon, and I guarantee you that she will remember the way she was treated by Feinstein. These old ****ers need to realize that they are on the way out, and these kids are on the way in.

Nothing pisses me off more than when somebody older than me is condescending to me,

Note to self, hire old people just in case.

Shut the **** up, old man.

Wait - I think we are the same age. Can I still call you old, if I am the same age as you?

Why not. I call other people fat.

Okay, I have a different take on it. I watched the entire video (not the "consolidated" video the children put out).

Senator Feinstein spoke softly, never raised her voice, even when these children were rude, interrupted her, raised their voices and even shouted at her; they refused to listen to her explanation of why the Green New Deal would never pass the Senate, and how she has prepared a good bill that can pass. The kids refused her offer to provide each of them with a copy of that bill by insisting that only the Green New Deal would do, without even giving her the courtesy of accepting the offer to read that bill; Feinstein repeatedly stated, calmly, that a bill that will not pass means that nothing can get done.

The abbreviated version of selected words, etc., makes her sound angry and argumentative; she was neither. She showed extreme patience in trying to explain that the difference between getting something done and getting nothing done in a governmental environment is (paraphrasing) bi-partisan compromise on a bill that can pass and become law.

Feinstein is getting a raw deal here; I don't know many Senators that would be so patient with a group of kids who were interrupting her, saying that the Green New Deal was the only way, and totally ignoring the fact that she kept trying to get through to them that not a single republican in the senate would vote for that bill.

*sigh* Hire a teenager while they still know everything. :(

Maybe Feinstein should have said. Like to help you , but your too young to vote."

Well, I called my congressman and he said "whoa!"
"I'd like to help you son but you're too young to vote"

Your TDS is making you look more ridiculous every day.

I don't live in CA so I won't be voting for Feinstein under any circumstances, but I think she handled that get together well.

Unfortunately, her efforts to educate those children on the realities of Congress failed. I don't place blame on that failure on her. I place it on the adults who have passed their naiveté onto those children.

But don't get me wrong. I don't have sympathy for Feinstein. This kind of thing comes with the territory.

Oh...and ThoughtEx, rest assured that I am being totally sincere with my comments.

Dianne Feinstein just made it clear that "Nevertheless, she persisted" deserves a coda...

"Nevertheless, she persisted, until she was eighteen, which is when she voted Dianne Feinstein OUT."

Okay, I have a different take on it. I watched the entire video (not the "consolidated" video the children put out).
as do i and as did i
Senator Feinstein spoke softly, never raised her voice, even when these children were rude, interrupted her, raised their voices and even shouted at her; they refused to listen to her explanation of why the Green New Deal would never pass the Senate, and how she has prepared a good bill that can pass.
the senator's office deserves respect, and it was accorded to her. the senator's constituents also deserve respect; in that regard, i believe they were severely short-changed
The kids refused her offer to provide each of them with a copy of that bill by insisting that only the Green New Deal would do, without even giving her the courtesy of accepting the offer to read that bill;
the senator did not even listen to the contents of the letter the children had prepared for her. after only a cursory overview of why they were there, the senator chided the young constituents for their strongly held views
in no instance did the senator offer to read her bill. when asked to distinguish between her proposal and the bill the children supported, the senator was unable to do so, suggesting only that one had a chance to pass and the other did not. feinstein gave the appearance that she is totally clueless about the bill she supports beyond some vague notion that it may have a chance to pass the senate
observe that the senator only handed out the text of her supported bill only as the children and chaperones were leaving
Feinstein repeatedly stated, calmly, that a bill that will not pass means that nothing can get done.
however, she did offer the ambiguous indication that she might vote for the bill the kids were advocating. but then immediately defaulted to the position that it would not pass the senate
in no instance did the senator explain to the children and their chaperones what provisions of their proposal caused it to be without merit in the congress
The abbreviated version of selected words, etc., makes her sound angry and argumentative; she was neither. She showed extreme patience in trying to explain that the difference between getting something done and getting nothing done in a governmental environment is (paraphrasing) bi-partisan compromise on a bill that can pass and become law.
here i must agree with you. the senator took extreme pains to elaborate to those present that she was only supportive of a bill which had a chance of passing the congress. the implication was that she was unwilling to fight for the bill that was needed (in the view of the attending constituents)
Feinstein is getting a raw deal here; I don't know many Senators that would be so patient with a group of kids who were interrupting her, saying that the Green New Deal was the only way, and totally ignoring the fact that she kept trying to get through to them that not a single republican in the senate would vote for that bill.
what raw deal did the senator get? the kids got the bum's rush because other people who had traveled far to meet her were then present. she no longer could find time for them. she certainly never listened to what they were advocating
*sigh* Hire a teenager while they still know everything. :(
that 16 year old girl would be a MUCH better representative of the community than is feinstein. she wanted to resolve difficult problems while the senator was only willing to count votes

If we both viewed the entire unedited video, we clearly had differing opinions of what that video showed; for obvious reasons, I am not surprised.

I stand by my opinion, as you no doubt stand by yours.

It's not how she said it, or that I agree with the kids. It's what she said. She didn't try to educate these kids on anything other than how a broken system they want to change operates. She dismissed their ideas because in her mind, their ideas could never pass. She can say that sweet as can be, it's still dismissive and insulting.

She justified it with logical fallacies to boot.

Which is why I said,
Whatever her beef with the green new deal is, she has no reason to throw shade at kids beginning to participate in our democracy. And using an appeal to her own authority is not a good way to have a spirited discussion. I can think of a dozen legite responses she could have had. But nope, gotta be petty to a kid.

You disagree with a sentiment I never expressed. My issue wasn't with how she explained the bill would never pass. It's how she lost her reason when these kids didn't care about the bill passing and only wanted her to express her desire for fighting for their future. The lives they will lead after she is dead. That range of years, when climate change will be affecting them worse than we will ever get it.

"I can't convince them, so I will point out how experienced and popular I am and how young and stupid they are." is a play straight from Trumps book. Whether she says it quietly or not.
