Does anyone else feel the presidential race in this country starts far too early?

As one that follows politics and enjoys debating it, some of you may find it counterintuitive that I believe our presidential race here in the U.S. starts far too early. (Campaigning)

In fact I am usually relieved when it's over! Anyone else feel that way? Maybe limit the run for office to 6 months before the election? I also object to the ridiculous amount of money needed for such a long race, and of course the constant mud slinging and coverage by cable news ad nauseum.

Thoughts?

I agree. And I feel this way about all elections. By election day, I'm ready to pull my hair out, with all the negative attack ads.

I know how to ignore stories that do not interest me. We do have serious problems with this process, but this is not among them.

I don't know how you all put up with it. The day-to-day mudslinging is bad enough. Here the campaign period for a general election is six weeks (though back in the day it's been as little as three!) between the announcement and the election. (The PM is usually the leader of the winning party.) You can get jaded with the process even when it's 42 days!

The next election always starts the day after the last election.

Way too much money involved and way too early starting. But, “we the people” are all about the money, been this way since the revolution........

It's not about the person. That's largely an interchangeable part. That's the great thing about democracy compared to tyranny. No one believes the country relies on an individual, it relies on the system.

I like the way Britain does it. 5 months before the election and limited amount of money to be spent on it. I think it is $50,000.

Well God Bless you son. You know how to ignore stories that don't interest you!

Yes I do, boy. I also know how to ignore posters that treat me will less respect than I deserve as a man of 57 years.

yes, even though i like the idea of a post-Trump era. i also support a national primary day so that Iowa and other states don't get to pick the candidate before the rest of us get to vote. FFS, our primary system is obviously not working properly.

Change election day to President's day so everyone has a chance to vote.

My problem (and I think the feeling of fatigue people have) is due to the wall to wall, incessant coverage of the election, to the point where the media is talking about utterly asinine things, as long as it is even tangentially related to the election.
