Kamala Harris Wants To Get Rid Of Columbus Day

Socialists are but a small segment of society. Nothing proves their craziness more than the Green New Deal where they want to renovate or rebuild every single building in existence and want to wipe out the history of the world, just like the Taliban want to do. They're nuts.

AOC is a socialist. So is Bernie Sanders, among others. Yes you still have not said how wanting to change the name of Columbus Day falls under the definition of "socialism". You've been asked repeatedly to explain your comment. You have yet to do it.

And how many of those cultures still celebrate and regard notable killers and monsters with their own holiday?

I understand that in places like Mongolia and surrounding republics, like Uzbekistan, they still honor many of the medieval Mongolian conquerors like Genghis Khan and Timurlane with large bronze statues in the middle of their town square. These people did, after all, create the largest land empire in the history of humanity. They also massacred in cold blood about 2/3 of the entire population of everywhere they conquered. This included large parts of China, India, almost the entire Middle East, large parts of Russia, and into eastern Europe. They were true terrorists of the ancient world in every sense of the word, masters of intimidation and fear, and cold-blooded psychopaths. But they are still being honored in their homelands, because they brought honor and glory, supposedly, to those places.

So one person’s hero is another’s terrorist. I suspect that’s how indigenous people here in the Americas see Columbus as well.

Make Mongolia Great Again!

Which is exactly what the left would get if they had their way because no one is perfect and we need to accept that and not wipe history clean.

George Orwell once said, “The most effective way to destroy people is to deny and obliterate their own understanding of their history.”

In the former USSR, censorship, rewriting of history, and eliminating undesirable people became part of Soviets’ effort to "correct" ideological/ political spin on their history.

The left have been in control of our public schools for a long time. For decades they have done a very poor job of teaching our youth American history and Civics 101. Today millennials are the most ignorant when it comes to this country's founding, first principles etc. There have been several articles in recent years reporting how poorly U.S. natural born citizens do when taking the civics exam given to immigrants who wish to become naturalized. It is shameful that many U.S. citizens can not pass the test.

When the people become so ignorant of their own history they stand for nothing and fall for anything.

Post #10 and still absolutely no argument as to why her position is incorrect, silly, ill-conceived etc. The only rationale for this thread so far is "she wants to change the name of something!" Might as well run around in circles screaming "rabble rabble rabble".

Trump supporter response that they're too chicken**** to say out loud:

"Christopher Columbus killed 1 million indigenous people of color. THAT is why Kamala Harris's position is incorrect. White America wants to celebrate that massacre, not condemn it."

Columbus was a monster. he is no hero. He committed genocide against the natives, and he didn't even really discover "America". Why are we celebrating a monstrous POS?

Oh, right wingers showing their real colors, loving people who kill brown people

Oh , the left is showing its colors by ignoring history. The history that the indigenous people of America (Native Americans) killed other Native Americans and made slaves of those they captured.

So the question is were they also monsters?

Every single group in history has a history of people within that group killing others within that group.

By your logic, Veterans Day shouldn't be a holiday because veterans have killed other veterans. Or maybe we should say "veterans were monsters".

Back to the indigenous people. Blame it on Columbus, or Leif Erikson, or John Winthrop, or the Dutch, or anyone you want going back in history. They were almost completely wiped out because of both diseases brought by immigrants/explorers, and massacres by immigrants/explorers. That's a fact. And they were here first.

I don't think Columbus was a monster. He was an explorer. He didn't set out to kill or have future generations kill everyone who was in the land where he sailed. He didn't really discover America, as that poster said. That's true.

I'm okay with giving the Native Americans their own holiday.

 Boy people sure do get their panties in a twist when people speak out about how our whitewashed history needs a good updating.

So by your argument, there is no difference between Nazi SS soldiers who led Jews to the ovens, and the soldiers in the American Army, after all there are numerous incidents of war crimes committed by American soldiers, Lt. Calley for one, and other incidents as well. Is this really what you believe? Would you be showing your "true colors by ignoring history" if you differentiated between the two?

Anyone else noticed this tactic from the Trump base of drawing equivalencies between any two things if they can be even remotely connected?T

Well, lets go down a history path. There were no indigenous people in the America's. Humans migrated to what is now the US. At least that is what the current belief by scientists is.

The only reason I brought up Native Americans killing and taking slaves is others made the statement about Columbus.

I am not a Trump based supporter. I find it fascinating that today some are so upset over Columbus having a Holiday. Seems you also are using the tactic to try and discredit what I stated.

If you noticed. I made a factual point about Native Americans. Then I asked if they also were monsters. Interesting how people want to apply todays standards against historical events.

There were no people on the Earth at one time. And.......

Indigenous people were the first humans in our country. That's a fact.

We celebrate Thanksgiving, and the white men killed the Indians with diseases, enslaved them, and murdered them. Shall we cancel Thanksgiving?

Why not cancel Thanksgiving . It would make some happy. /sarcasm/
imo, things have gotten pretty stupid in the US over holidays. As far as indigenous people, could you tell me which tribe was the first?:lamo

This the problem when people apply todays belief and morals against historical events. Things get off kilter.

And I think the celebrations would be a lot more fun.

Nation wide rendezvous, reenactments, hunting/gathering seminars.

I will beat the **** out of dumb ass parades.

I live on a ridge directly above the Mississippi, I am surrounded by history, directly across the river is effigy mounds national monument, just to the north is Blackhawk park, battle island and the site of the black hawk massacre.

Just to the south is Prairie Du Chien with more history than I can list.

I could see events all up and down the river.

We have never paid much attention to Columbus day, we all know he never set eyes let alone feet on this country.

We celebrate, native Americans, Vikings, and Voyagers...

Inuits...

Pretty simple, even some south American tribes languages are so close they can communicate without ever hearing the others language...

I had this employee who worked for me many years ago. She graduated high school. I can't remember how it all came about but one day I began asking her questions about US history.

Question 1: Which country did we fight in order to get our independence from? She rattled off several wrong answers.

Question 2: Who fought in the US Civil War? Her answers: France? Spain? England? When I explained to her that we fought ourselves, the North fought the South she looked at me with utter amazement and didn't believe me.

Never got to question 3. Had to walk away shaking my head.

Nobody believes this actually happened.

However, several of us are still waiting for you to explain how changing Columbus Day to Indigenous People Day is socialist, as you have failed to share your propaganda on that.

It's been proven.

No Columbus, no United States? Yes, because nobody ever would have sailed west from Europe. Even now. They would all be living there and not a single person would know about North America.

It would all be speculation as to when and under what circumstances that would have occurred. I'll just take history the way it actually happened, thank you! :2wave:

Nobody runs around in a loin cloth in Newfoundland all year.

I realize that, just like I realize there are no penguins in Newfoundland. It was used as a figure of speech to describe primitive people. And they were primitive.

I had this guy on a political forum actually say that a pedophile in office is better than a democrat.

I still am shaking my head over that one.

You can believe it or not believe it. I can certainly understand why people wouldn't believe it. Sadly, it is the truth.

Funny how you guys make a million posts on here bragging about and wanting European Socialism and then when the US politicians who want this very same thing are labeled as being socialists you guys come out and claim it isn't socialism after all, even after you yourself said you want socialism. Even Bernie says he is a socialist and all of his flock want socialism. But but but, it's not socialism. Please make up your minds.

I think you are making it very obvious you are not here to post any kind of truth whatsoever.

Hey, what a surprise. You didn't answer the question but instead pushed more propaganda (and outright lies), just like the article I posted earlier in post #9 said was happening (you even mentioned Bernie Sanders, one of the people the article claims was being targeted).

It's a simple question. How is changing Columbus Day to Indigenous People Day is socialist?

I don't think Columbus was a monster. He was an explorer. He didn't set out to kill or have future generations kill everyone who was in the land where he sailed. He didn't really discover America, as that poster said. That's true.

Yeah, the Norsemen discovered America. Then what happened? Nothing. :doh How was that useful to the development of Western Civilization in the New World? Bzzzt! Time's up! Answer: It wasn't.

I'm okay with giving the Native Americans their own holiday.

You're okay with giving people a holiday based on race or ethnicity? If they want to take a day off of the calendar and call it Indigenous Peoples Day, that's fine, but I'm against a federal holiday based on race or ethnicity. I mean, if we're going to do that, then how about a holiday in honor of Americans of European heritage? Would you be okay with that?

Hint: it all has to do with how you are defining socialism. I think where everyone is talking past each other is in how the word is being used, and understood, and misunderstood.
