“Empire” actor Jussie Smollett, upset after a racist letter sent to the show’s studio didn’t get a “bigger reaction,” is suspected of paying two men to attack him a week later, according to multiple sources with direct knowledge of the investigation.

“When the letter didn’t get enough attention, he concocted the staged attack,” a source told CBS 2 Investigator Brad Edwards. Other sources corroborated that information.

During the search of the brothers’ home last week, a “piece of paper/writing” was also seized. CBS 2 is the only news source with video from inside that house. Police evidence logs exclusively obtained by CBS 2, show investigators took the writing sample, magazine, and a “wallet with stamps.”

The sources say the red hat was bought at an Uptown beauty supply store and that the attack was supposed to happen before Jan. 29. The brothers told detectives the three men rehearsed the attack days prior to it happening. Smollett paid the brothers $3,500.

Not for nothing, this is pretty common in a city.

I still miss the city conveniences. I had a GREAT Italian place where I'd regular get scungilli marinara over penne at 4am. Either delivered or I'd walk up the street and pick it up.

You backwoods folks have no clue how rewarding city life is.

It's much more than a political divide and we all now it started in earnest under Gingrich and exploited by FOX News under Bush. Trump is simply the first to introduce the element of violence to the divide while actively promoting it from his perch which is traditionally a peace making position, the presidency.

The only great divide that exists in this country is the divide between the ears of the idiots still roiling in their hatred of Trump...and that isnt Trumps doing. Those poor pathetic bastards did that to themselves. The sad sick reality is that if it wasnt Trump they would be doing the same thing about Cruz, or Rubio, or anyone else that beat Hilary and stole their 'precious'. Jussie claims he also goes hard against #45 but when people reviewed his twitter history he never had posted about the president.

This guy was in one of my favorite movies as well, Mighty Ducks.

I didn't realize he was in Mighty Ducks, one of my favorite movies too, until just recently a little after this story exploded.

It's sad he feels like he needs attention so bad he fakes a letter, then when that doesn't get enough attention goes forward with a poorly planned "attack". I do kind of like the timing because I am dealing with a child who has got caught recently making up stories to get attention so this is a good lesson to teach how far stupid stuff can go and the negative reactions against it. This guy is forever going to be branded as a liar but it's his own fault.

It started in the cultural divide of the 60s and there was plenty of violence.

It was also the start of the anti-Christian movement....coincidentally.
