Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein to step down in March: official

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Rod Rosenstein, the U.S. deputy attorney general who appointed a special counsel to investigate possible ties between Russia and President Donald Trump's campaign, is expected to step down by mid March, a Justice Department official said on Monday.Rosenstein had been expected to depart shortly after new Attorney General William Barr assumed office. Barr was confirmed for the role by the U.S. Senate last week. The Justice official said Rosenstein's departure was not related to renewed allegations that he considered wearing a wire in meetings with Trump and using the 25th amendment of the U.S. Constitution to remove the president from office.

Last September, the New York Times reported Rosenstein in 2017 had suggested secretly recording Trump and recruiting Cabinet members to oust the president using the provisions of the Constitution's 25th Amendment. In an interview broadcast on Sunday with CBS News "60 Minutes," former acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe confirmed the Times account that Rosenstein considered wearing a wire in meetings with Trump.

My guess is he will next be found as a "legal analyst" on CNN or MSNBC.

Putting aside the OPs nonsensical ramblings and total disregard for reality, this is gut check time.

If Muellers investigation is disrupted or impeded in any way by the Attorney General of the Deputy Attorney General Replacement, we have to assume it was at the behest of the President and at that point, he needs to, must be, impeached.

Let see if Trumps that stupid.

Only after his future book tour and the mega-million $$$ "advance" of it ... or the offer of a Netflix documentary. (grin)

0 Trump supporters see it that way.

Been hearing one excuse after another that Trump needs to be impeached ever since day 1 of his election.

Don't know with regard to your last sentence, but I can assure you there are still a boat-load of stupid liberals who think Mueller will produce something viable to remove Trump.

Interesting.

We've known for a couple months that Rosenstein was going to leave as soon as Mueller ends his investigation. This article makes no mention of that. Makes me wonder if that was a detail that was conveniently left out or if Rosenstein is getting scared and bailing early.

Did you think of this all on your own? Or are you parroting the left's newest talking points?

All in all it's just another brick in the wall...

And not the wall cultists want...

It's as you said, we always knew he was leaving, but that won't stop the embellishing left from making a mountain out of a molehill.

It doesn't work that way. You either have it or you don't. You don't get to cobble together a million fails into something with validity. A lot of fails equals one big fail, not a win.

wonder how long William Barr will last, lol.

The NBC article mentioned it ...

"... A source close to Rosenstein said he intends to stay on until Mueller's investigative and prosecutorial work is done. The source said that would mean Rosenstein would remain until early March. Several legal sources have said they expect the Mueller team to conclude its work by mid-to-late February, although they said that timeline could change based on unforeseen investigative developments.

The source said once Mueller's work is done, the special counsel's report to the Justice Department would follow a few weeks later, and Rosenstein would likely be gone by then. ..."

What does that have to do with me?

I never have, but should that happen, absolute red line and I think for most people... Who are actually capable of thinking anyway.

So, not Trump supporters.

Actually, what we have known is that Rosenstein was planning on stepping down after Barr was confirmed. Barr was just confirmed.

Barr's confirmation is expected to bring a change there when Rosenstein steps down at some point after Barr is confirmed so that he can select his own deputy.

Sources at the Justice Department say that although Rosenstein is expected to depart once Barr is in place, there isn't a specific plan or schedule in place that establishes dates or structure for that.

So you do not have to worry, things are proceeding the way we were told they were.

Yes, most Americans who love their country do not think it wise to have a man who acts as a Russian asset as President. Throw on top of it his repeated acts of obstruction (not to mention witness tampering and his seemingly authoritarian attitudes), it seems a pretty good idea to have him gone.

With that said, he's not going to be impeached, not in his first term. Republicans won't convict and Democrats have nothing to gain (and a lot to lose) by going down that path. If there is somehow a big swing in 2020 where Democrats have both House and Senate by a comfortable margin but Trump somehow won the Presidency (which if the Democrats win a large majority in the Senate, it would be very difficult for Trump to win the Presidency), then perhaps we'll see the impeachment thing.

Oh it's clear he already has it, he's no longer looking he is just piling on at this point.

Cultists keep saying that because charges against the don and family have not been filed YET they will not be.

That is just a dream for cultists, the coordination between trump, the campaign, and Russia is as clear as the sky on my Wisconsin ridge tonight.

The only question now is how it will all go down.

Will there be an impeachment? I would like that but I don't know if all the thousands of changes can be ready before trump is out of office.

Will Mueller test the rule (not law) that a sitting president can not be indicated?
This is my favorite option, it would discourage any other future criminals from trying to run for office.

But most likely we will go to the next election, trump will lose, be charged with the traitor he is and spend the rest of his life in prison...

I feel this is the most likely path, with the only possible exception of pardons.

I doubt Mueller will try to indict a sitting President. But I expect multiple members of Trump's family (Don Jr. and Kushner have both reportedly been telling people they expect to be indicted) to be charged with crimes and I fully expect Mueller's report to come back with copious amounts of felonies on the part of the Trump campaign.

That must be the fairy tale story you "read" to yourself every night ...

In Watergate special counsel Leon Jaworski named Nixon as an unindicted co-conspiritor. It was consistent with DoJ policy not to indict a sitting drunkard president. Mueller can take the same route concerning a sitting fat ass president. We don't know whether Mueller might do that but we know from precedent it is likely an option open to him. Conservatives/Republicans are sweating bullets as it is but they have this to worry over too. Remember too Rosenstein is a witness too as are Comey, McCabe and a whole slew of 'em at FBI. And we're talking about a grand jury in Washington DC not at DP.

More news.

An official announcement of who has been selected to replace Rosenstein could come as early as this week. A Trump administration official added that Attorney General William Barr has picked Jeffrey Rosen, who currently serves as Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation, to take over for Rosenstein.

A graduate of Northwestern University and Harvard Law School, Rosen previously served as General Counsel and Senior Policy Advisor for the White House Office of Management and Budget (2006 to 2009) and as General Counsel at the Department of Transportation (2003 to 2006), according to his online biography.

Rosen, confirmed for his current role by the Senate in May 2017, works under Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao in overseeing the daily operations of the department.

One crime after another all add up, and Mueller is digging deep..

Trumps crimes are clear to those of us who look at things logically.

Unlike the cultists who deny reality day in and day out.

Even devout Christians blindly support him because suddenly he supports their causes, when he was completely opposite just over a decade ago.

Sadly they don't recognize a con artist when they see one.

If trump had not been born into money, he would be touring with a carnival trying to convince guys to throw just one more dart for his girl...
