Asked if she was aware of IS beheadings before going to Syria, she told Sky News: "I knew about those things and I was OK with it. Because, you know, I started becoming religious just before I left.

So she was becoming a Muslim and thinks beheadings are OK. Great.

I'm not going to say she's right., but people have a tendency to be ok with pretty ****ed up things for ANY religion.

Didn't a Buddhist orchestrate the sarin gas attack in a subway in Japan 15 years ago? Is that proof that Buddhism has serious issues?

Clearly the world has a major radical Buddhist terrorist problem..............................................................................................................................................................NOT!

Good point. It will be completely lost on Bodhisattva.

To be clear: I don't believe that Buddhism has serious issues because of the actions of one extremist group who called themselves buddhists. Nor do I believe Islam has serious issues because of the violent actions of one minuscule fraction of a percent minority who call themselves muslims.

There have been self professed Christians who have called for and hoped for horrible **** to happen to those they feel are the unwashed heathens in our country.

Are you saying that Christianity has a serious issue, or are you going to give them a pass on that?

Hell no... Christians are horrible too...

Yes. But so what?

If I were talking about young white men and women joining white supremacist and neo-Nazi gangs and terror groups, and you piped up by saying "Well, aren't there some explicitly Hispanic or black racist gangs that commit racist hate crimes and are just as bad?" That may well be true, but what does that have to do with the subject at hand? Other than perhaps to serve as a means of minimizing the seriousness of the issue, and allay or deflect blame? How is trying to focus on another religion that has extremist elements deal with the issue of the presently-discussed religion with clearly extremist elements do anything to help solve the issue?

Also, if you are going to cite instances of explicitly-Buddhist led terror, I would have chosen a more salient example than a syncretic Buddhist cult committing acts of terror in Japan. The two most notable examples of explicitly mainline Buddhist terrorism in recent history were the Tamil Tigers of Sri Lanka serve as a better example, along with, more notably, the Myanmar government's commission of ethnic cleansing against the Rohingya, which was sanctioned by many Burmese Buddhist religious leaders.

I disagree. It's not proof that Buddhism has some serious issues. It is proof that people with serious issues are capable of claiming to belong to any religion they want in order to justify their own crazy agenda. It wasn't an attempt to solve the issue, it was a response to the op's assertion that extremist activity is proof that Islam has some serious issues. If you had said that young men and women joining white supremacist movements is proof that white people in general have some serious issues, then yes I might have pointed out black and Hispanic gangs as a means to point out the irrationality of your prejudice. It's not the religion or the race that's the issue, it is a small fraction of a percent of people who use those religions and races in order to justify their own bad behavior.
