Suspects in alleged attack on 'Empire' actor released | Reuters

(Reuters) - Suspects arrested in connection with an alleged racist and homophobic assault on “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett in Chicago were released on Friday, police said.

“Due to new evidence as a result of today’s interrogations, the individuals questioned by police in the Empire case have now been released without charging and detectives have additional investigative work to complete,” the Chicago Police Department said in a email to Reuters.

Since he has stated that he knew both of these men, and that one was employed as an extra on his show 'Empire,' this is starting to look more & more like a PR stunt.

It sounded fishy from the start, but I wanted to wait to see how things shook out. Now the fish smells rotten.

When he was interviewed on TV last night, I could sense his lying about this supposed incident. It looks like a setup.
 
My guess would definitely not be "PR". If you go back and look at Smollett's words and tweets, he is virulently anti-Trump. My guess would be that he thought he could perpetrate a false racist, homophobic attack in order to foment further racial division, give Trump and his supporters bad press, help out 2020 candidates by propping up their narrative and giving them attention on social media (which we know Harris and Booker took advantage of to great effect, ie: "modern-day lynching" when they knew NOTHING).
Smollett lavishes his SJW status in all its intersectional-victim greatness and in his mind, he might think he's working for the good.

My guess is that Smollett had himself sent that ridiculously laughable threatening letter (complete with letters cut from magazines and 3-year old crayon writing and drawings) and when that didn't go viral, he decided to dial the situation up.

What goes through people's heads that they think they can outsmart the police and all the surveillance cameras all around the city?



Will Smollett's career be over when he is convicted of filing a false police report and whatever else goes along with this kind of violation?

It should be. But then again, the actual POTUS has lied and done worse, but gets away with it on a daily basis. But he's an elitist, so...

Does he get away with it? Seems to me the media, this message board, all of TV and Hollywood, and academia constantly harp about it.

He's still POTUS worshipped by 90% of the GOP voting base.

I actually want him to remain president, and destroy the phony conservative ideology for what it is. But that's for another thread.

The part that seemed really odd to me is the claim the attackers stated "this is Trump country" in Chicago. If the attack happened in a Trump strong hold maybe.

Yes. I got snagged on that also. But I figured it could be true because it was just so stupid-sounding that I couldn't understand why someone would add it to a made-up story about Chicago.

He gets attacked and managed to hold onto his phone (which he was using at the time) and his sandwich. THAT is odd.

Why does the fact that the perps knew the victim make it sound like a set up?
 
There was a day when if this turns out to be a scam, it would not have gotten off of first base.

The first suspect in the murder of a spouse is ........THE WIDOW.

In the day when "publicity stunts" were very common, the first suspect in an instance like this would have been....the so-called victim or his film studio. Then again, the speed with which "news" spread was significantly less than it is today. As such the initial views were fewer and the speed with which they spread was mush reduced. Someday, we will adapt to all this new technology. As of today....NOT SO MUCH!

Lets not go all to pieces though. He is a film/TV star, a celebrity, a creature of Hollywood la-la land.....like our TV Show Producer and Star President. If we continue to treat la-la land like it is an environment that produces normalcy or even seriousness, that is on us.
