So...the language of this funding bill has been release. The actual funding legislation is over 5,000 pages, but here is a 29 page summary: Summary of Conference Appropriations Report | United States Government | U.S. Immigration And Customs Enforcement

Highlights:

Provides $1.375 billion, or $4.325 billion less than the $5.7 billion the Trump administration requested, for a very limited 55 miles of physical barrier that can only be placed along the southern border in *only* the Rio Grande Valley of Texas.

Contains language allowing only fencing designs in use as of 2017.

No funding for new border patrol agents above the current on board levels.

Does not fund the Administration's request for joint detention facilities.

No funding for additional enforcement and removal field personnel.

Summary of Negotiated Budget Appropriations W/ Limits on Border Security and No Funding for Border Agents or ICE Agents (full pdf)…. | The Last Refuge

Other highlights:

$415 million for humanitarian aide

$77 million for opioid equipment

1,200 new Customs and Border Patrol Agents (retain current levels)

The bill expands Catch and Release by reducing the number of border beds from 49,060 to 40,520.

No funding for additional enforcement and removal field personnel. - that means no more ICE agents to deport people already in the country.

Expands the Alternatives to Detention program from 82,000 to 100,000 - so instead of housing family units at the border- they get moved into the interior where they almost always stay in the country permanently.

Provides $40 million for additional ICE staffing dedicated to overall ATD (Alternatives to Detention) case management, particularly for asylum seekers - so no new ICE agents, but money to ICE to help illegal aliens settle in a non-detention center in the country.

The bill gives over $1 billion for the Smithsonian.

$3.4 billion in refugee assistance - $74 million more than last year.

$4.4 billion in international disaster assistance - $100 million more than last year.

Does not eliminate any foundations that Trump wanted to get rid of including: The Asia Foundation, the U.S. African Development Foundation, the Inter-American Foundation, and the U.S. Trade and Development Agency.

Israel, Ukraine, and Jordan receive $5.3 billion for border security fencing.

Thread by @RyanGirdusky: "Border wall bill is out, here are some highlights: here are the areas Trump cannot build any wall The bill gives $1.375 billion for construc […]"

Seriously? Congress will provide more money to Israel, Ukraine and Jordan for border barriers than they will to their own country???

Who the hell are these guys working for?

btw, that bollard fence design that's allowed? Pre-2017? That's the stuff that NBC says can be cut through with common household tools.

So tell me...after reading this ****...can ANYONE say that Congressional Dems and Reps care about securing our border?

You're right. He should.

Then he'd DEFINITELY lose in 2020.

;)

The healthcare bill from Obama was considered yuge at 2,000 pages long, and that was to cover every single American with health insurance...not a small job.

Yet...a bill to answer the ask of 6 billion dollars, which is chump change by comparison, is 5,000 pages long....over twice the size?

Can someone explain this?

I don't see why you expect either party in congress to go along with his wall. Most Americans are against it and both parties know it would take many years to complete and tens of billions of dollars. Trump would be long gone before it came even close to being finished.

So what has master negotiator Trump offered the Dems or the GOP? It'd have to be pretty good to go against the will of the people, but as far as I'm aware it's been NOTHING, zero, zilch, nada. Trump obviously doesn't want the wall badly enough if he wasn't willing to sacrifice anything for it. Now there's less funding for the wall than was offered in December before his temper tantrum.

You've been duped by a conman that obviously doesn't really want this wall built.

To be fair, this bill addresses funding for seven agencies, so yeah...that's going to take a lot of pages.

Why would Trump REALLY want one.. He's hired illegals for decades.. Add in the GOP's businesses donors don't want a wall either because they too LOVE immigrants because they work cheap..

There's not going to be a wall, it's just another GOP and Trump con job on the GOP base. And damn, the Republican base are an easy bunch to con. They'll keep conning their base with this issue until the next Dem POTUS, then the GOP will start worrying about the debt and deficit again.

Haha, have you seen what looks like his go-to phrase for 2020 that he's been spouting at rallies? "Finish the wall!" :lamo

Sure, he's not any closer to having the wall than he was in 2016 but his retarded and educationally challenged supporters can't tell the difference. It's not about results, rather rhetoric.

Lindsey Graham disagrees with me.

(unlike some of our fellow forum members, Graham presents facts in his disagreement)

~after snipping the irrelevant nonsense, this is the only useful part of your post~

This is absolutely correct, but don't fool yourself into thinking this is limited to the GOP. Those "businesses donors" have the Dems in their pocket, as well.

Waaah says the great deal maker. Trump will sign. His back is against the wall and he knows it.

This is absolutely correct, but don't fool yourself into thinking this is limited to the GOP. Those "businesses donors" have the Dems in their pocket, as well.

The Dems aren't lying to and conning their base.

If the GOP base really wants to address the illegal problem then it is up to YOU guys to hold the GOP's and Trump's feet to the fire. My God Trump is a Manhattan elitist who craps in gold plated toilets, AND has hired illegals for decades. He's gone from making the Mexicans pay for a wall, to we'll build a wall, to now 'finish the wall'.

But his base believes everything he says and allows Trump and the rest to lie to them and continually move the goal posts. They are just playing the GOP base, and the base allows itself to be duped. Never going to get a wall, or even the illegal problem addressed until the GOP base says to the GOP and TRUMP, enough lies.. But they won't. It's like you Trumpsters like to be conned.

E-Verify would fix this problem.. But notice how silent Trump and Congress is on that.. Why?

Trump will sign this into law since another "shutdown" would yield nothing better (but perhaps something worse). The Great Wall Of Trump (at least enough for a photo op) will "continue to" be built, we will continue to have catch and release, we will continue to lack an E-Verify mandate and we will continue to have 12M to 20M illegal immigrants inside the country with more arriving daily. MAGA indeed.

We the sheeple will also continue to re-elect "our" congress critters at a rate of over 90% in 2020 because they knew that keeping illegal immigration as "an issue" was the right (politically correct?) thing to do.

The issue I raised in my OP wasn't the "illegal problem". It was the "border security" problem.

Since you contend the Dems aren't lying to their base, can you quote any Dems who say they care about border security? We can then compare their quoted contentions with their votes and see exactly what they are lying...or not...about. (at this point, it would be nice if you can find Dems who are on this negotiating committee)

But given what's in this proposed legislation, it's clear that neither the Dems or the GOP care very much about border security.

Plenty of demorats also want to keep US wages low (to please "job creators" supplying campaign cash) by having loads of immigration (legal or not) and see immigration (legal or not) as the key to getting politically favorable demographic changes occurring more rapidly. The only major difference (by political party) is whether (how fast?) to offer these "illegal" immigrants citizenship so that more of them can vote.

Border security is only a problem because of the US interior demand for illegal immigrant labor and contraband (mostly recreational drugs). Without addressing that demand, trying to control (slightly limit?) its supply is futile but very expensive and even more profitable for those criminals involved in the supply chain.

Trumpettes expect everybody to go along with whatever Trump wants.

Sounds like this deal is going to upset just about everyone... typical of Congress.

I'll answer as soon as I finish laughing my arse off.

Haha. So true, we hate congress so much we'll keep electing the losers we can't stand. That is why we get the government we deserve, well the government the right deserves. It's a never ending wonder to me why so many of the folks on the right say immigration is super important but they never do anything and yet their base will vote the same folks who do nothing back into congress over and over. If the right is dissatisfied with their choices because they aren't doing as the base wishes, vote them out, don't blame the dems for your own party's failures.

Funny after reviewing the above it amazes me at how so many people are complaining about our taxes and how little tax cuts are helping the "average American home," yet they seem to have no problems allowing Congress to designate billions of dollars to foreign aid and helping non-citizens entering illegally to stay in the country. $5.3 billion for FOREIGN walls? Are you kidding me? :doh

I've mentioned this before, but to no avail...if nothing else, building a wall and maintaining it benefits American businesses and American workers. Construction contracts, materials contracts, ancillary support businesses (food services, housing for workers, etc.) which like any other government works project stimulates the economy.

None of that matters, because this project is "immoral," but using taxes for foreign aid and to support illegal immigrants? That's not a waste of money?

Poor Tweety. Maybe he can build another 55 miles of "wall" by stacking up his bull****. He's excreted at least that much in the past few years.

It is very difficult to remove an incumbent congressional representative in the primary election process - many run unopposed, have very weak opposition and/or have a huge funding advantage. In the general election the (only viable?) alternative is to vote for the "worng" party's candidate - do you think that a "right" voter would be more happy with a demorat as their congressional representative or that a "left" voter would be more happy with a republicant as their congressional representative?

Another problem is that of the 535 congress critters one can only vote for (or against) at most 3 of them.

Yes, the President should tell them to shove it.

But, of course, he won't.

The Republican bigwigs have told him not to.

So he should simply do everything possible between now and the 2020 election to highlight what is happening at the open borders: drugs flowing in, criminals flowing in, border guards being murdered, our laws being given the middle finger.

Hopefully, the silent majority will turn out as they did in 2016.

Which party is pushing for reform of politics? Republicans had two years Mycroft, and they LIFTED regulations and taxes on corporations/wealthy.
Thy EMPOWERED, in large part for those donations and connections.

Democrats as their very first legislation put forward, HR1 , just pushed for an anti-corruption bill!

House Democrats officially unveil first bill: a sweeping anti-corruption proposal - Vox

Both campaign finance and ethics are in there.

But keep attacking anyone who speaks poorly of the worst president in modern history, the Putin Puppet, the "Executive Time" president who listens to Ann Coulter to decide the course of the nation.
No one is fooled by your claims that corruption is a problem for you, your actions show the opposite.
