Ted Cruz Demands That Convicted El Chapo Pay For Donald Trump's Border Wall | HuffPost

The senator urged lawmakers to pass his legislation to use the drug lord’s fortune to build the barrier.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on Tuesday urged the passage of his legislation to use the ill-gotten gains of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman to build a border wall after the drug kingpin was convicted of narcotics trafficking and other charges.

“It’s time to pass my EL CHAPO Act,” Cruz tweeted. “I urge my Senate colleagues to take swift action on this crucial legislation.”

Cruz is great at grandstanding. Earth to Ted: Walls don't work.

It's funny because Chapo is known for his tunnels under existing barriers.

Also, good luck on the US government getting funds from the Mexican government knowingly for a wall they are very much against.

Seriously. Just a couple hours ago I said that as a joke and he's advocating it? Wow.

At first glance, I thought this was going to be a Borowitz Report.

That it is actual news is less funny. Somewhere between disappointing and embarrassing.

It's a great idea, so, naturally opposed by the Illegal-o-crats here....

It's grandstanding. If we seized some of his money, it's sitting in an account for the U.S. as we speak or will be. Why not use it for drug treatment? $billions for that will save a bunch of lives, and decrease demand for El Chapo's former product. Or improve crumbling roads and bridges in the U.S.? Or pay down the debt? Or to fund more DEA agents? Or pay for more treatment for troops suffering from PTSD and related? Etc..................

I'm positive that a major drug operation like that didn't rely on individuals hauling drugs on their backs between walls to ship $billions in product, so why build a wall that wouldn't stop what he was doing?

I heard that most of his drugs came into the U.S. in vehicles at regular crossing points,

IS everyone in the US crazy?

I know, I know he was born in Edmonton. We'd like to forget that and plead a case of poor abortion laws at the time.

But Little Ted, you are just presenting an even more unlikely way for the never will happen even of Mexico handing over $ to the US.

As an aside people, Trump is so stupid he made that claim based on $ accruing to the US through tariffs. He was so clueless he thought they were like a tax and he'd get the $. That's why he quietly dropped the reference.

He still doesn't know the difference between an import duty and a tariff.

Hey, that's a good idea.

I would go along with that.

I heard that most of his drugs came into the U.S. in vehicles at regular crossing points,

Yep. And by sea. It makes the most logistical sense when you move hundreds of pounds, if not tons, at a time.

Man, I wouldn't **** with the Mexican drug cartel if you paid me. Mother****ers are vicious.

He better be careful about what he says. El Chapo still has officers and foot soldiers everywhere (including in those tunnels under the "walls" Cruz wants built).

And as far as his money - I don't think anyone, as of yet, has found his money, and they probably won't. I could be wrong, and can't find anything when I google "Where is El Chapo's Money?" except Ted Cruz' bull****tedness, but last article I read said that he had $14 billion dollars hidden.
