I thought this video was well worth the 30 minutes to watch. You don't see many in the media make any attempt at considering black conservatives view points. More often than not you'll see a lot of the media condemn and make fun of them whenever they're brought up. And although the reporter in this did give his own views he also didn't let it interfere with what the story was about. Something you don't see too often anymore.

I watched the video. I saw something in it that is very common to see here on these forums, and I don't think it has anything to do with attitudes of black people.

It was during that little get together between the two conservative women and the group of people who don't like Trump.

1. The two conservative women seemed to be concerned with "what Trump is doing" and they support what he is doing.

2. The others, especially that fellow with all the hair, seemed to be concerned more with "what Trump is saying" and they dislike Trump for that.

This is right in line with most of the people here on DP. You have those who are obsessed with what Trump is saying (or with what the media tells them he's saying) and those who are concerned with what Trump is actually doing and how it affects our country, our economy and people's lives.

Exactly...doing. He's not a polished politician just a shrewd businessman. People who don't see that are making a common mistake.

In a sad way, I can see why young black conservatives having a hard time challenging conventional norms. What politics has done to racial matters has drawn division lines that are contradictory to what the original civil rights leaders advocated for, and we have gone so far down this road that challenge means being called a "traitor to your race" (quote from the OP video.)

I've been convinced for long enough that the efforts of civil rights have shifted, in a way hijacked, into a political model that equates to votes. The business of finding racism and calling someone racist became far more important than actually doing something about racism. The idea of education being the means to handle social fault was discarded for the political benefit of keeping an entire group of voters making their vote based on fear of opposition (another quite from the OP video.)

Here is the rub though, most campaigning for a vote is based on speaking to a demographic or based on fear (or both.) And it would be grossly inaccurate to suggest that black conservatives found a home in a party that does not engage in the same behavior.

It makes sense that some within the black community would feel removed or ignored by mainstream Democrats these days, what I question is the conclusions of the video suggesting mainstream Republicans care much for economic and social issues that tend to dominate minority voting intentions. All evidenced by even in better economic times minorities tend to still lag behind.

The other concern is I might end up being accused of racism simply by pointing out these things.

Why is it more black folks aren't catching this wave? What is being discussed here sounds like folks are trying to take the five percent of blacks who support trump into the majority of black folks. Just take a look at the congress members of the GOP, how many black folks do you see? It's like when trump claims the lowest unemployment numbers in history for blacks and hispanics. As if anything the republican party did was the cause. Let's face it, the GOP is nine tenths for white folks, it's why a border wall is absolutely necessary for the right.

Good video.

As a Black American myself I find what these young people are saying resonates with my experience.

I joined this Forum 5.5 years ago, and I intentionally refused to reveal my race during discussions about race-related issues. This because I wanted to be judged on the content of my posts (i.e. my "character") as opposed to the color of my skin (i.e. claiming special consideration).

I held to that for the most part until shortly after the 2016 election period when my defense of Trump's statements and policies ended up with accusations I was expressing my "White privilege." (Like David Webb per Areva Martin.)

Then I found that after revealing it to counter this smear I was faced with assertions from some Forum members that I was either a "race traitor," or a "White supremacist" in sheep's clothing (2 of the only 3 people I have ever placed on ignore).

It really is hard for some people to believe that there are independent minded Black Americans. IMO this is due in great part to the narrative over the last 50 years that we are all victim's of never-ending racism, perpetually child-like and innocent who must be taken care of by those who know what is best for us.

Small wonder many of us are breaking away from the Democratic plantation.

He is and always has been a con man. He is doing nothing but enriching himself, his family and his so called friends.

You mean he's helping take away the chains that bind our economy. Socialism doesn't work.

Lemme help you out here, just real quick: The vast majority of what Trump says AND does is garbage. Because Trump is garbage. The end.

A "shrewd" business man who filed for bankruptcy six times, you mean...you left that last part out there, W. ;)

What chains?

Face it, Donald Trump is an utter failure. His big tax cut is failing big time. Banks and big business have not invested anything as many studies have shown. The money that was suppose to flood into the US.. was barely a trickle.

What I see, is American Conservatives.. black or white or yellow or green... live in a fantasy universe like most black conservatives.

Can you name any "chains on the economy" that have been removed and can be proven to have benefited the economy?

Hoo kay...you might not like me after this next comment...however Play It Safe Tuesday isn't until tomorrow, so here it goes... Given the clear implications of racial disparity statistics, is the take away here that a black conservative is no more interested in fixing those disparity statistics than a white conservative?

You seem to think that acknowledging racial disparity is some kind of feel good exercise, or some kind of enjoyable condescension that leads to control. As if fixing these racial disparities wouldn't result in a massive drop in crime, a higher earning tax base potentially resulting in less taxes for everyone, a more educated group of voters, a lessening of the cost burden associated with prisons and social assistance programs, just to name a few... Yes, there is a direct benefit in the lives of marginalized people when the consequences of that marginalization is reduced or eliminated, but one shouldn't stop there, lest they miss the second win of the win / win here. There are plenty of reasons to be sick of the disparities, and what they bring, many self serving, even if mutually beneficial.

If you're saying that your life has never been impacted by racism, I'm very happy to hear that. Statistically you are ahead of the curve, perhaps even a slight outlier. But unless you have some other explanation for why these disparity statistics exist, you guys (conservatives) fixing those disparities would appear to remain the best course of action, regardless of what the perception of that work is - what you call "being taken care of by those who know what is best for us" is also being fiscally responsible - even taking empathy out of the equation, fixing racial disparity should very much appeal to conservatives...yet we keep hearing from them that there are no discrimination problems - unless we're talking about the Jews, of course. "What's best" for you is what's best for everyone: a society free of racial, or any other, disparity.

I'm not sure why you wouldn't be for acknowledging and addressing disparities of any kind faced by fellow citizens - a free nation should have eliminating disparities at it's core. I hope you'll believe me when I tell you I'm not assuming anything about you with this post - only expressing confusion. Perhaps I'm missing something. And before I get accused of being a holier than thou Canadian, I will fully admit we have our own problems up here, which I'd be happy to discuss, but fall outside the scope of this thread.

Unless everyone is honest........which they are not.......capitalism doesn't work either. It needs regulations.

You mean you openly admit you don't know what socialism is. We don't have a socialist economy or an economny 'chained' by socialism.

You're most welcome.

Small businesses are hiring, and banks are lending to developers and other businesses.

The same ones that slammed shut like a oyster under Obama's bailouts.

Powerful. Thank you.

Don't think you watched the video? The reporter made it clear that black conservatism is still a small group compared to those that vote democrat. But he also showed that it IS growing as more and more blacks get disillusioned with the democratic party.

And approval of Trump among blacks is actually increasing as shown in polls. And its higher than 5%.

I noticed something about that group also. When talked to alone they were calling black conservatives all sorts of nasty names...but when confronted with those two women not one single nasty name was uttered. Including that one with the hair who called black conservatives "house negro" and then when he met them he said "there's nothing wrong with being a conservative, there's nothing wrong with voting for your political party....". Talk about two faced.

That's ok with me. I wouldn't mind if the GOP changed their ways enough to attract fifty percent of the black and/or the minority vote. It would be good for america all around.

I would like to ask all of you respectfully to not make this thread about Trump specifically. The thread was made to highlight black conservatism, not talk about Trump of which there are hundreds of other threads about. So please, lets keep the focus on black conservatism.

I don’t know why it is surprising that some black people support Trump.

You’d have to have waded neck deep through CEC-generated, racially coded nonsense for decades in order to be surprised that some black people support Trump.

Do you know if that first woman depicted in the video is Candace Owens?

And yet people do. Not her on DP necessarily, but I've seen anti-Trumpers insist that #walkaway black people are Russian bots. All of them. Even the YouTube videos, of which there are many.

That's the thing, I don't think the GOP actually needs to change all that much. While yes, it has its problems, it's not near as big as those on the opposite side like to portray it as. As pointed out in the video by some, the DNC likes to portray Republicans as racist as a fear tactic. Note, I'm not saying that there are not racist Republicans, that would be stupid. But I also do not think its near as bad as the DNC likes to make it out to be.

People like to point out that there aren't that many black people voted into office on the Republican side but I find such statements to be dishonest in that they're not looking at obvious things. Like the fact that 90%+ of blacks always vote Democrat. That doesn't leave a lot of black people on the Republican side, much less qualified enough to hold office. Though I am seeing some political conservative black activists that, if they put their energy into it the right way, would get voted in.
