Bezos, the National Enquirer, the Saudis, Trump, and the blackmailing of U.S. democracy | Will Bunch

It was the stuff of Saturday Night Live “cold open” legend -- the joke that wrote itself about the world’s richest man, selfie iPhone pictures of his genitalia, and an alleged blackmail plot orchestrated by a man with the tabloid friendly surname of “Pecker.”

After two-plus years when so much of the news was dominated by hard-to-follow allegations of Russian election interference and alleged collusion by an American presidential campaign, here -- finally! -- was a scandal that Joe Sixpack could really sink his teeth into. “[Male sexual organ] pics!” Endless “Pecker” jokes!
=================================================
But there's much more to this story than just titillating Joe Sixpack: potentially involving the oil billions of Saudi Arabia and the president of the United States? Or that it could tie into shadowy international hacking operations, the shadowy NSA, and maybe even the high-profile murder of a U.S.-based journalist? And that this story is finally exposing the tawdry story 'That a nation founded in the ideals of democracy has been increasingly fallen prey to a new dystopian regime that melds the new 21st century dark arts of illegal hacking and media manipulation with the oldest tricks in the book: blackmail and extortion.'

I don't know what to make of this but I did take note of a former editor I think is was saying that the current editor is likely headed for jail over this....for sure over the line of legal and acceptable he says.

The biggest keaker of state secrets who also building the largest customer data bank got is weinie leaked. It’s Karma. They won’t do a thing because if they do it will splash over on the corrupt MSM who trades in information too.

You guys always think the law will support your fever dreams. LOL

Who is 'you guys"?

Your post does not show any indication that you understand that I have decided nothing about this case, I am listening.

Sorry, democracy is working just fine, so far as people voting who they want to vote for and those choices not really being amazing and all that.

Carlin used to call it " The illusion of choice".

It has been argued by some that the legal defense of David Pecker is based on Bartnicki vs. Vopper.
I confess that I never got completely to the end of the Bartnicki decision, it's a War and Peace length legal opinion but I kept noticing that much of it centers on information which is arguably of "public importance" and that a media publisher is held safe from liability for distributing such material even if it was acquired illegally, but again...the terms relating to "public importance" appear almost a hundred times in the Bartnicki decision.

Is the appendage of Jeff Bezos important to the public?

We also do not yet know if Jeff's girlfriend just went ahead and sent the pictures in question to her brother.
That would make her a low down dirty girl but more importantly it would thus absolve her brother of any criminality because he is indeed then legally allowed to do whatever he wants with the pictures and it looks like Bezos would be SOL.
Until you get to Bollea vs. Gawker.

Forgive me for my possible ignorance and naivete but how does Bartnicki overturn Gawker without also making all forms of revenge porn LEGAL again and also eliminating all definitions of personal privacy altogether?

Really?

The richest guy in the world is sending dick pics to his paramour. He's going through a divorce because of his relationship with said paramour. The dick pics get outed. It's not like he's the first guy to have that happen.

However...

Because said richest guy in the world have a newspaper and hates Trump the story now is that the president of the United States used the NSA to hack the guy's phone and send the pictures to his buddy at the Inquirer.

Talk about TDS!!!

First, if you don't want dick pics dumped into the public realm don't take dick pics. It isn't that difficult.

Second, if you're the richest guy in the world people are going to be digging through everything they can on you because people have a fascination with stuff like that.

Third, if you're ****ing around on your wife and you have dick pics on your phone they WILL get leaked to the public. Y'know all that talk about "a woman scorned" and all? There's a reason for all that talk. It's real.

Fourth, if the president of the United States was smart enough to get Russia to rig the election in his favor and get that plan past the CIA, the FBI, the NSA, the DIA and every other US intelligence agency do you REALLY think he's going to get caught snatching and leaking a pic off your phone?

Bezos said he doesn't care about any of what you just said and he has an unlimited budget too!

OMG. Bezos doesn't care about the dick pics and the breakup was mutual... It's like you are blindly supporting Trump and his friends just b/c that's your auto-defense position.

I find it interesting that Bezos hasn't seen her in a month. I think he's still lovestruck and wouldn't be surprised if she played a role. The honeypot stories are interesting. I can see a scenario where Trump tells Roger Stone to find a girl for Bezos to breakup the marriage and to get him. Just like Putin found a girl for Trump :)

It is their auto-response. They're entrenched.

A month, eh? She might HAVE given the pictures to her brother after all then.
I've never snapped nor sent a dick pic in my entire life, and I've never even been asked to do so either, I am that old.
But I am aware of the fact that, unless you ARE asked to send a dick pic, NEVER EVER send one unsolicited.

Better yet, never send one anyway, no matter what. Just don't snap any pictures at all.
Tell the ladies that if they want to see your package, they can grab you by the hand, go in the room and ask you to drop trou.

I've got some Polaroids...

That sort of thing was the end of that nonsense in my life. I'd be more embarrassed of some more current photos than those. That 'strobe light' nonsense from phone cameras never fails to close my eyes.

Bozo screwed around on his wife, and didn't like the Enquirer busting him. PERIOD.
