As part of her New Green Deal, AOC wants to pay people for fogging a mirror. Can't you just feel the meteoric rise to the middle and call to greatness and prosperity?

"Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D., N.Y.) and Ed Markey (D., Mass.) introduced a Green New Deal bill Thursday that, in addition to transitioning the U.S. entirely to renewable energy in ten years, promises to provide “economic security for those unable or unwilling to work.”

Since arriving in Washington in January, Ocasio-Cortez has prioritized the implementation of a Green New Deal and, in her frequent media appearances, has emphasized its potential as a means to pursue “economic justice” while drastically reducing carbon emissions over the next decade.

In drafting the proposal, Ocasio-Cortez and her fellow progressive lawmakers appear to have envisioned that the trillions of dollars in new government spending it would require would be financed entirely on credit.

“How will you pay for it,” reads a frequently-asked-questions document that accompanied the bill.“The Federal Reserve can extend credit to power these projects and investments and new public banks can be created to extend credit. There is also space for the government to take an equity stake in projects to get a return on investment.”
With the exception of the brief mention of a “carbon tax,” which the FAQ document claims “misses the point,” there is no mention of any additional taxes to cover the cost of spending.

In addition to providing “economic security for those unable or unwilling to work,” the plan also promises to create “millions of good, high-wage jobs” for willing Americans. Many of those new federal employees would presumably assist in the 14 major clean-energy-infrastructure projects the plan calls for.

In defending the breadth and scope of the proposal, which also includes 15 “social and economic justice and security” requirements, Ocasio-Cortez has likened it to the mobilization effort that preceded World War II, and conceded that it qualifies as a “moonshot” idea."

Kennedy's moonshot was a call to greatness and pushing the boundaries of human achievement. AOC's "moonshot" is a call to suck on the government teat and have us become a socialist mecca.

Just a freshman congressperson showing they don’t deserve a seat at the adults table. Her New Greed Deal is going no place it will be used as a bludgeon by both sides, but never get implemented.

I did not read your post but I did want to point out that one of the primary laws of Zen is "NO WORK.....THEN NO EATS!".

Should we pay people who are unwilling to work?.

We are all conscripted into a capitalist system by birth here in the USA. This represents a hardship to many who may well be very good in a traditional hunter gatherer roll.

You may well see them as able to work yet their born talents may be at odds with the system we have making it a hardship you just don't understand.

Lot's to this and it's multi dimensional but long story short, those that are lucky enough to thrive in a capitalistic based system have an obligation to support those that the system has marginalized or created a hardship for.

You think through a very narrow perspective. A form of brainwashing which is natural to humans. You need to try to enlighten your thoughts.

very scary women to the wingnuts. fascinating.

I think from a perspective that "work" is called "work" for a reason. You're just making an excuse for being lazy. You think everyone wants to get their ass out of bed and go deal with humanity or load garbage into a truck 5 days a week?
If your "hunters" are so inclined, they can gather for themselves instead of holding their hands out.

Everything is a matter of degree.

Some can get up while hating there jobs, others simply can't get up at all.

If your "hunters" are so inclined, they can gather for themselves instead of holding their hands out.

This is simply untrue. We put them in prison when we catch them.

ANOTHER AOC thread!

There is dangerous levels of AOC on the forum, if we do not turn back now and stop posting so many, it could create a tear in the space-time continuum.

state TV and AM radio must have her on heavy rotation. that's usually the case when right wingers start eight hundred threads about something.

There are 2020 candidates who support it. How scary is that?

No scary to me in the least. I understand it has absolutely zero chance of passing in its present form.

I think they are trying to use it to distract from all the Trump news. If AOC is as stupid and incompetent as they claim she is, then it's all a non-issue. She's one among 435, so her ideas won't go that far. So mostly the AOC-DS (lol) is just there to put on a show and serve as a distraction from one whose stupidity and incompetence has a far greater impact that AOC's...Trump.

The degree to which AOC wants to take this concept of Basic, so provided amount by government to ensure a certain level of basic living needs for everyone, would not appear to be obtainable nor sustainable. It's not a new notion, I just don't think we are at a place right now where we could support such a system. We do have unemployment and welfare programs and if she wants to help elevate or support the poor, we could probably look there first for improvements before going off to make some brand new system that will be too big and expensive to maintain.

Why didn't you link to the story you are citing in the OP?

Taking her literally not seriously.

AOC is more of a symptom. The short story is that Venezuela was a prosperous oil rich country with a democracy. The two parties could not compromise or work together and nothing got done. The people got more and more frustrated until a populist candidate came along and promised them everything they wanted. But they didn't see the other hand coming as their newly elected leadershp began corrupting their institutions and their government, and drove out the productive middle and upper classes. Then the spiral began. And here they are.

So I don't see AOC so much as a threat, but a warning to both parties. The fact that AOC is getting the attention she is, is a warning sign to both parties: Stop fighting and get down to getting the people's business done.

This really crystalizes it for me. Such a great observation.

She just published a really asinine proposal, in her mind it's a serious plan. One that in reality would **** America into utter failure. As the fresh new face of the Democrat Party, of course we're going to have a laugh at the seeds of stupid the left has sown.

I really wish senior Democrats would stop enabling AOC. These are 2020 candidates who are backing her ridiculousness.
Then again, it really is going to get Trump elected again.

1) Cite your sources. This is an opinion piece from the National Review... Not exactly an unbiased source.

2) There is nothing whatsoever in the actual text of the New Green Deal which mentions anything about anyone "unwilling or unable to work." Read it for yourself.

3) The link to the claimed FAQ doesn't work.

If the most substantial complaint you have about the New Green Deal is something that isn't anywhere in the framework itself, then it sounds like you've got nothing.

AOC's New Green Deal LITERALLY stated that people UNWILLING to work should get paid and mentioned FARTING COWS.

At the time this story was published, the FAQ page with the phrase "farting cows" appeared to have been removed from Ocasio-Cortez's website. Fox News' John Roberts reported that the language was tweaked to "emissions from cows" in an update, which also appears to have been deleted.

Look, just because AOC's rollout of her brain fart was an utter failure, doesn't mean this language wasn't in the proposal before she had it pulled down and changed/eliminated some language.
