Nathan Phillips vet status in question

Not the thread. You. If you have been in Corpus for 50 years or so you know doubt know some of my relatives who live there or who lived there before they died. One in particular, who is dead now, was a popular news reporter who enjoyed wide recognition and respect.

I never suggested I've been in Corpus my whole life. I'm originally from Virginia, I spent 20+ years in the Army and moved here recently.

I do not like President Trump. I did not vote for President Trump. In 2016 actually did a write-in for another Democrat.

I can tell you that I've really boned up on logical fallacies since Trump got elected. They are SOP on any debate board which hosts never Trumpers.

A "wartime veteran" is an individual who served in the active military forces, during a period of armed conflict or who received the armed forces expeditionary or other campaign service medal during an emergency condition and who was discharged or released under other than dishonorable conditions.

World War 2 was a period of armed conflict.
 
Dont know if this will clear things up for everyone. I kind of doubt it since folk are pretty committed to their story.

This is the National Defense Service Medal. Its given to ANYONE on active duty during the Korean War, Vietnam War, Gulf Wars. All veterans that served during the periods of conflict are awarded those Medals regardless of where they served. That makes them a veteran...it does not make them a combat veteran, nor does it make them a campaign veteran.

There is not a question as to whether or not Nathan Phillips served as a Marine reservist. He did. Was he a Vietnam Era marine? The last combat field marines pulled up stake in May of 1971, a year before he joined the marine reserves. But hey...marines were still in the embassy til 1975. SO technically...even though h was a marine reservist serving part time in Nebraska, yes, he was in during the Vietnam Era. To even call yourself a 'Vietnam Era' vet knowing you were a reservist in Nebraska, well...thats a reflection of his character.

But thats not where his problems start. His problems start when he claimed he "returned to the country" as a Vietnam vet and was spat on by hippie chicks. That was a lie. When he claimed he was a recon ranger. That was a lie. When he claimed he knew the signs of danger as a Vietnam veteran. Because that is a lie.

I also supported President Obama, President Bush, President Clinton, President Bush, and President Reagan.

You see, I do this because of an oath I have taken. Not just once, but 6 times now. It goes like this:

I, (state name of enlistee), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. People who so absolutely hate somebody, that they project their beliefs onto them, irreguardless if they are correct or not. But feel free to fact check me, I have written about my feelings about him before the election. Feel free to go through any of them and quote me where I said that I was in any way a supporter of his.

I will wait patiently right here as you gather the evidence to prove your claim. Not that I expect you to in any way apologize when your search comes up empty and that your statement is nothing but a lie. As I have seen from you, facts and beliefs are fluid, and they are whatever you think they should be.

But as I am famous for saying in other areas, I say it now. "Put up or shut up." Either find where I have in any way stated that I am a "Trump Supporter" or anything even close to that, or STFU about things you do not know anything about.

One thing I do share with him I will admit, I have no patience or use for people who lie, insult, or try to make claims that they can not prove. So go ahead, prove that claim. I have over 12,000 posts here, surely if I was a "Trump Supporter" you should have no problem proving that.

The thing is, he did not even claim "Vietnam era", he used the nebulous term "Vietnam times". Saying "Era" is accepted terminology for somebody who served during a conflict, but not in it. Why make up a term that is neither one or the other? And when reporters called him a "Vietnam Veteran", he never corrected them. They have been making this "mistake" for almost 10 years if not longer, yet never once did he appear to try and correct any of them. Ever. So even if this was a mistake by a reporter and not himself making the claim, that says a lot about his interest in having his life told correctly.

And there are always Marines in embassies, that is one of their jobs. Every embassy the US has around the world has Marine guards.

I honestly doubt the sanity of anybody that behaves in such a manner. And yes, I felt it was the same for those that attacked the last President for 8 years.

Hatred knows no logic, and when people have that much hatred I question their sanity, and if it is safe for children and small animals to be anywhere near them. If somebody can not have a discussion without resorting to name calling and insults, I simply have no use for them. And for my own safety and sanity I generally mute them. I have enough in my life going on that I do not need to hear the ramblings of sick individuals who will attack people simply because they do not agree. Especially if they can not get things like simple terminology correct.

I am sure many would call me a Trump Supporter if I said water was not blue. Some would probably defend Jeffrey Dahmer, so long as he voted their way.
 
I was a writer/instructor at Ft. Knox during Operation Desert Storm. I suppose now I can claim to be a veteran of Operation Desert Storm. Or even more impressive...a veteran of the First Gulf War.

Somehow, I don't think I will be doing that.

Actually, I have known his name for years.

He first came under the RADAR of Stolen Valor groups way back in at least 2015, because of his using his Veteran status. And more were raised in 2017 after Vogue (a highly respected source of investigative journalism) interviewed him many times. He even tried to crowd fund a story of his life at one time.

But he was a relatively minor when compared to more famous ones like Soupy, or Lawn Dart Danny. Those individuals came under immediate fire because of claiming awards and rank that they never earned. Phillips was largely flying under the RADAR because he only claimed veteran status and never awards. That changed last weekend when everybody was screaming he was a "Vietnam Vet".

Ok, fine, you personally heard his name before. I don't aim to dispute you personally having heard the name.


The bottom line is that the way this is being deployed is to somehow discredit his account and shift the subject to him, when it's all on video anyway. But no matter what he did regarding "stolen valor", it didn't have anything to do with the reason everyone else is talking about him, which is the events some days ago where a bunch of different people erred in different ways.

It's just a distraction, at least as presented now.

I work with recon Marines fairly regularly and haven't ever heard the words recon Ranger or any other type of ranger
