Why Trump Will Lose The Government Shutdown Fight

there is a thing called a filibuster you should probably look it up.
you have been told this before but ignored it for some reason.

That must explain why the Republicans passed the tax reform bill without a single vote from a Democratic senator.

I didn't make a rule, I gave my opinion of foreign interference. You're not a Mod either.

No, and unlike you, I don't pretend to be one. I'm also not an ugly American. I leave that to the Trump lovers.

Are you talking about the bill the Republican house passed in the lame duck session of Congress last December.

Hate to break it to you, but that bill is officially dead.

ahh you see you still don't understand how government works.
the tax reform bill was passed under a different set of rules.

so now you have 2 terms to look up.

Budget reconciliation and filibuster.
those rules do not apply to this.

I hate to tell you but the dem's in the senate still filibustered the bill at the time.
so there you have it. please see filibuster.

You do not seem to remember what happened in this country in the last 2 years. I'll give you a hint - the Republicans controlled the WH, Congress and Senate. They decided what came to a vote. They apparently ignored the national crisis Trump and his drooling fans claim exist today.

And since it failed to pass the senate before the 115th congress adjourned, it is officially dead.

Congress would have to reintroduce that bill to vote for it again, and I think that the bill would lose a vote in the house.

Why Trump Will Lose The Government Shutdown Fight

3QMV76A5HMI6TJ2ZFOCUDO56EA.jpg

Via polls and protests in front of the White House that are growing in size, Trump is coming to the realization that he is in a very weak position politically regarding the shutdown and the wall. The vast majority of Americans want the former ended immediately and want no part of the latter. Trumps base is neither large enough nor powerful enough to sustain his demands. A segment of this base, uneducated white males, is now shrinking. As the negatives of the shutdown begin to increase exponentially with the passing days (over 1 month now), TheDonald is going to have to increase his concessions dramatically. We're getting close to the political tipping point. If Trump vacillates much longer, he can forget any notions of running again in 2020. His power play with Pelosi never had the juice to succeed. That it has taken him this long to realize this truism speaks volumes on his political ineptness and his historical callousness towards employees.

Trump will not lose the shutdown fight as being a psychopath he has no empathy for anyone else. He will stay the course as long as it takes, knowing that others do care. It is really up to the GOP leaders to do something as the Dems seem entrenched in their position that no bargaining take place until the bills are passed the government reopened.

As well you should.

Oooh...awkward... Debating AND reading comprehension not your strong points today...tsk... Getter better soon, bud. ;)

We have issues with immigration, drugs, crime, etc that up until now, no one has been dealing with.
Ah, yeah, comprehensive immigration has been scuttled by Republicans for over a decade. Immigration trends are down, it's not a crisis.

Drugs are always a problem, but the war against drug and the draconian sentencing from Republicans (and opposition to fixing it for years), was the issue.

Don't act like those were important to Republicans or you, you're not fooling anyone. Trump had 2 years of Republicans in the House and Senate, and they got one big thing done ASAP.

Tax cuts for the wealthy/corporations.
Secondarily they ****ed up Obama care as much as tehy could.

And Trump's criminal enterprise, catering to Putin, trying to piss on NATO and allies, fighting all Russian sanctions (Trump), and sowing racial and gender discord, (i.e. trolling the nation), is all he's done.

The ****ing wall....that's one of the things this bozo ran on...and was willing to shut down government for a month +?

There is a reason there are so many Democrats that we think will run...they smell blood in the water.

The Trump base voted him in to blow up DC and shrink the federal government. As far as they’re concerned, Trump is just delivering on his campaign promises. This was their version of how to make America great again. We will see how much they continue to enjoy their small government.

You still haven't looked up those terms. until you look them up we cannot continue this discussion.
They are important pieces of how our government works. I explained this to you before.

And since it failed to pass the senate before the 115th congress adjourned, it is officially dead.

it didn't pass because it was filibustered. hello. you simply still refuse to understand this so there no point in going on about it with you.
dem's own the shutdown completely. they started it by not passing a bill that would have avoided it last year by the republican congress.

only people that are completely detached from all facts think otherwise.

And you are taking the conversation in a completely different direction. I know the "terms". You can't continue the discussion because you don't even understand what I posted. Come back when you do. Then you can explain why Trump didn't address the "national crisis" until the Democrats took control of the House.

Even though the smart kids already know why he didn't. It's fun to watch his Fan Base attempt to articulate it. And fail miserably.

How much has he shrunk the government?

The President is a patriot.

Yes he is...a great Russian patriot.
I am certain that when he escapes the surly bonds of our great nation and its legal system and arrives in Moscow, Vladimir will do for him what he did for Steven Seagal when HE was running away.

Award him honorary Russian citizenship.

He has already lost.

He lost it when he said "I will be proud to shut down the government"

Now we see him trying to delicately walk back from that and he will try he will actually claim Nancy Pelosi actually said that. But the lie is in too deep, too strong and manly a boast...he walks it back now his opponents need one word: "coward".

He is not going to get $ for a wall. If it was so damned necessary why the incompetence of the first two years NOT top address it.

Nope, this is all about politics and being seen to be "soft" by his media mavens...nothing else

So if he is proving the government is too fat, as some of Trump Nation suggest, how come he's ordering a few hundred thousand civil servants to work as slaves?

Trump must lose this fight. It is the only acceptable solution.

Congress cannot accept rule by coercion.

GOP senators have to look at themselves in the mirror and do what's right.

And you are taking the conversation in a completely different direction. I know the "terms". You can't continue the discussion because you don't even understand what I posted. Come back when you do. No you don't understand what control of government means when you use that term. I explained this too you as well and you didn't get it.

So in the house all you need to control the house is a majority of the votes.
in the senate to really control the senate you need 60 votes which is almost impossible to get, but it has happened.

anything other than 60 votes in the senate requires you to come up with a compromised bill that can get 60 votes to over come a filibuster.
so while Republicans were in charge of the senate (a better term to use) they did not have full control of the senate as they didn't have 60 votes
required.

He has been asking for a wall since he became president. You don't seem to know what you are talking about.
yes so far you are not doing that well in these discussions as you ignore facts.

Who's "religiously polishing" anything, Nate? This is nothing but the regurgitation of the same ol'.

We have issues with immigration, drugs, crime, etc that up until now, no one has been dealing with.

How about instead of supporting this continuous political rhetoric, we come together and solve these problems. BTW: since you don't live here, buzz off.

Liberals would love to come together with republicans and solve these problems.........but unfortunately the republicans can only offer untenable arguments to support their claims. If republicans could be honest, it might happen, but not until then.

So if he is proving the government is too fat, as some of Trump Nation suggest, how come he's ordering a few hundred thousand civil servants to work as slaves?

he isn't. that has been the rule since the 1930's with you FDR. It was expanded in the 80's by jimmy carter himself.
he deemed and so did the congress that certain federal workers were to be classified as important.

Meaning without them there would cause major issues and huge disruptions in day to day processes. see 80's traffic controller airstrike.
please know what you are talking about before making such ridiculous statements.

About the latest Trump "offer"...
He's offering DACA protections in exchange for his wall, but there's one minor detail some might have missed:

The SCOTUS refused to hear the DACA case the other day, which leaves in place the lower court ruling that keeps DACA for at least another year, or until someone tries to knock it down again.

So Trump's offer is like me offering not to crash the Moon into the Earth.
He is offering to allow something he has no control over anyway.
