The Government Shutdown Smoking Out The Resistance

The author's statements also had nothing to do with the issue at hand which is the meat of the shutdown, namely Trump's hostage taking over a wall which he doesn't intend to build. It is no different than the Caravan of Killers which disappeared the moment the November elections were over.

The Democrats are following our stated policy of not negotiating with terrorists who take hostages.
Thanks, but if I want to hear liberal propaganda, I will tune into CNN. Try making an original argument for once.
Trump does not dictate spending. He must follow the Constitution which gives that power to the House,
No kidding. Is this your first time watching a bill become law? Bills start there but they end on the presidents desk. THe president gets to be a major part of the process. The House doesnt determine the final product. That is a result of a consensus being reached in Congress and approved by the president. If you were paying attention at alll over the last 8 years you would know that Obama refused to sign any bill that didnt fully fund Obamacare. Republicans ran the House and Senate but had to agree to Obamas 'terroristic demands' in order to fund the government. Thats how things work here. Democrats will have to compromise with the White House or the funding bills wont pass. Thats how things work here. Eventually the liberal temper tantrum will end and the government will go back to functioning as normal.

LOL More like how things DON'T work here. Obamacare was a law that passed both Houses and was signed into law by the President so your analogy is a fail. Trump could not get Republicans to fund his wall so he is using extortion to get Democrats to do what his own party would not. It will fail and eventually McConnell will allow a vote that passes with a veto proof majority to open the Govt.. That is the only way to deal with a rogue President who is off the rails. Capitulating would be a Constitutional disaster.

No, you just dont know what you are talking about. Obama refused to sign any funding measure that didnt fully fund his pet project. Trump is doing the same thing so stop being hypocritical.

Yes, Trump chose now to pick a fight. So what? He can do that. And dems will be forced to cave and negotiate to end the standoff. The kook fringe base loves the 'no compromise' stance of the left, but the public will not tolerate it. But you go ahead and make Trump look like the reasonable player in this.

You seem to be pretty knowledgeable about our government for an eight year old, but don't ignore the other, "major part of the process". The final product resulting from a consensus between both houses, does not require Numnut's approval. That's also how things work here. Congress had come to a veto proof consensus earlier, but Numnut's changed his mine after Rush disapproved. And now because McConnell lacks the balls to do anything that Numnuts disapproves of, he refuses to send it to him to be signed or his veto overridden.

Trump proudly told the world it's his shutdown. Everyone knows who's actually having the temper tantrum. I wish he would reopen our government now, but the shut down does have one benefit. The longer he keeps it shut down, the lower his support and approval rating gets, he's digging his own grave.

Btw, until the cancer of Trump is removed, our government will never go back to functioning normal...

LOL When did Trump get a bill to fund his wall thru both Houses? Never and your analogy is a fail for that reason. The public know that Trump is to blame for the shutdown and as long as that is true there will be no caving by Dems. The Republicans in the Senate are getting an ear full from their constituents and they will be the ones to reopen the govt. You will see.

If you think you are going to get the votes to override a presidential veto in the senate you are dreaming

I just showed precisely WHY this particular project (not walls in general - just THIS project) has absolutely NOTHING to do with protecting our nation's borders. I seriously doubt that brick number one will ever be laid and that the five billion will go in Trump's pockets, or used in some other way that fuels further malfeasance between Trump and his corrupt cronies.
The wall only became "an EMERGENCY!!!" on January 3rd when Democrats took the House.

But more importantly, it is THIS specific "EMERGENCY!!!" which isn't, which is a "dick measuring contest" for Trump, and that is all it is. He has taken hostages. It is time to housebreak the dog, and if afterward, he can demonstrate the ability and willingness to forego hostage taking, then maybe we can revisit walls and immigration constructively.

When a kidnapper takes a hostage, they don't get to negotiate if they want radial tires and a turbo on their getaway car.

Oh the wall will 100% work. We know this based on the absolute TDS nutters we are seeing having a ninny over it. If dems think the wall wont work then dems would with 100% certainty give him the money for it, let it fail then use that against him in the next election. No no, you guys arent worried it wont work. You are worried it will work.

Thats irrelevant. The public elected a new congress on the promise that they would end Obamacare. They tried, but Obama held the country hostage to his demands that nothing would pass if his pet project didnt get fully funded. Youloved it then and hate it now. Thats hypocrisy.

I think that is what democrats are counting on but I dont see it playing out that way. The partisan are dug in. The people who dont live and breathe this stuff want government to function. If one side offers solutions to end the standoff and the other does not, it will be the uncompromising side that will be seen as the obstacle.

Things one has to believe in order for Alpha-Omaga's CT to be true:

1. Illegals can vote - millions upon millions of them.

2. Donald Trump will run for reelection, or will be able to.

3. The notion that Trump Republicans will EVER admit that anything Trump does has ever failed, or could fail.

Congress is not irrelevant. It is a co-equal branch of the Govt. who's power is equal to the President. All spending must be approved by the Congress and all laws must be supported by proper spending to fulfill them. Trump has failed to even propose a bill to fund his wall and is now asking for a blank check for something that has no bill no plan no nothing. It is behavior more worthy of a 2 bit dictator in a Banana Republic. The Dems will never stoop to his level so forget it.

The shutdown is Trump's response to Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh's whiny accusations that Trump was backing down when he was just about to sign the previous bills.

They pretty much implied that he was not a real man with a big dick and that he "got beat by a girl" (Pelosi) and he decided that a shutdown would prove to everybody that he really is a genuine strongman after all.

It's not about a wall at this point, and it never really has been.
It's that Trump can't stand being a loser. He took his ball and went home.
If everybody else won't let him make up the rules as he goes along, then he's isn't going to play.

No one knows for sure until Mcdonnel grows a backbone;

"...President Trump is not the only person in Washington who could end this government shutdown now.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) could bring a “clean” funding bill to the floor, free up his GOP caucus to support it and could quite possibly secure enough votes to override a presidential veto.

McConnell already did it once, when he believed he had Trump’s blessing. Before the holidays he allowed a vote to keep the government running until Feb. 8, to avoid a shutdown and buy more time to negotiate Trump’s demand for border wall funding. It passed easily.

But then Trump bowed to pressure from his base, House Republicans dared not challenge him, and the parts of the government that had not yet been funded were shut down..."

The House passed a bill that included funding for the wall back on Dec. 20. And the House will compromise because their refusal to compromise is idiotic and designed only to appeal to their rabid, unthinking base.

There is zero reason for McConnel to put on the floor a bill that the president wont sign.

And why would he want to do that? How about if people who have supported and voted for wall funding in the past simply do so again. You know, people like Schumer.

Because he already sent a compromise bill that both parties from both houses have agreed on? A bill that had a good chance of becoming law by overriding Numnut's veto? Because he wants to end Trump's shutdown allowing our Homeland Security and Coast Guard personnel to be paid? Because he wants to increase the security on our borders, rather than doing nothing by placating Numnuts as he holds his breath?

Because McConnell along with Pelosi are COEQUAL branches of our government. Two branches that when working together (as they had) have more power than our Dear Leader. But sadly, conservatives prefer living under the iron fist of a dictatorial ruler (see posts by Hawkeye10 for examples). So because McConnell prostrates himself at the feet of Val's boy in the WH, rather than standing tall as a leader of a COEQUAL branch as our founders intended, Trump's shutdown continues.

There's no need to make a false impression. Schumer and the Dems have never proposed or voted for a 2000 mile boondoggle. And btw, didn't you propose we just beef up our existing wall instead of building Trump's fiasco?

You'll probably learn about the power of Congress when you graduate to forth grade next year...

"I found this missive very interesting. I've never worked for the government, but understand they are generally viewed as redundant, wasteful and even slothful. This sounds so much worse."

Yeah, in idiot right wing fantasy land that's true, because that's what fox news has told you for years. You people have absolutely no clue

He crushed your obscenely long, two-post thread starter with a flick of wrist. How's that?

What are we debating, the 100 claims in that wall of text you wrote? You're just pushing Daily Caller propaganda on the forum. Don't be ashamed, lots of people do it. Well, actually, I'd be ashamed if I were you.
If you're gonna tell us all you read such partisan garbage, why not pick one or two points, and make a thread just about those? Just a thought.

These people are all the same. Copy and paste garbage from a garbage source, when someone destroys that, they deflect. Not a single actual argument. Soon you will here the whiny persecution, oh, you attacked me deflection. They all use the same troll playbook

, why is this obvious trolling allowed? Doing nothing but deflecting, copying and pasting crap, and forming no arguments is trolling

I dont think you are really in a position to refer to others as idiots.
