Democrats head to broad way show during the Shutdown....

https://www.breitbart.com/entertain...ico-for-hamilton-broadway-show-amid-shutdown/

Nice to see our Democrat friends in congress being able to go on vacation in a time like this.

It appears that you missed the intention of the Democrats from Congress who took the trip to Puerto Rico. Of course, Breitbart News would spin this trip in a negative way to make Democrats look bad. That's not even close to the truth.

Hamilton's creator, Lin-Manuel Miranda spent childhood summers in Puerto Rico. He brought the Broadway production to Puerto Rico for 2 weeks to raise money for arts communities on the island. It's meant to be a symbol of the island’s slow return to normality after the September 2017 hurricane that killed nearly 3,000 people.

The 30 Democratic lawmakers and 109 lobbyists and corporate executives comprise the Congressional Hispanic Caucus BOLD PAC which met today with key officials to discuss the cleanup after Hurricane Maria at a roundtable. Tickets to the play 'Hamilton' were all purchased with private funds.

The trip represented the largest congressional delegation to Puerto Rico since the September 2017 hurricane and members were to spend part of their time focused on that issue, according to the schedule. In addition, their chartered jet carried 250 pounds of donated medical supplies.

Assholes.

They're visiting a part of the country which needs a visit from people in Washington. They're doing part of their job.

The OP is dishonestly presented.

The assholes are Breitbart.

I don't think matters. It requires both sides to agree on something and neither one will. An impasse is an impasse and why would either side cave when both were elected to voice their own side? It is their duty to.

There's a lot of truth in that and frankly I'm only calling this a republican shutdown to counter Taylor's asinine claim that democrats don't want to end the shutdown. The old claim that it takes two to tango has some merit here.

The House passed a bill to reopen the government. It's all on McConnell now.

No, it's really all ON them.
Trump is not going to sign on their terms.

Those idiotic Democrats vacationing in Puerto Rico need to be called out for what they are... callous partisans, do nothing establishment Democrats.

Puerto rico is a party town. I guess they need to go to cancun to do some research as well?

Give me a break!

Assholes.

Yes McConnell and those supporting him are assholes for not voting on the bill the house sent them. Thank you for admitting that.

At this point, the above is LIE.

Is McConnell putting the house bill to a vote, yes or no? If not he isn’t doing his job and this is a Republican shutdown.

Their bill is sitting on McConnel's desk ...

You mean their uncompromising NO funds for border enhancements are sitting on McConnel's desk while they are off vacationing in Puerto Rico.

In spite of Breitbart's dishonesty, I actually appreciate them trying to make a big deal out of this.

I might not have learned of the event otherwise, and I'm very heartened to hear about Puerto Rico getting attention from Congress.

Another backfire from Breitbart.

Way to go, Democrats. I like your agenda so far.

The House Democrats don't want their bill signed.

So maybe the GOP leadership should put it to a vote, no? Force the Dems to come up with another maneuver.

Even the GOP doesn't actually support what Trump is doing here. They only hang in hoping Trump has some master plan to avoid getting this situation splattered all over the entire party.

The only way this goes the Trump's way is if the Dems fold, and that is exactly what they won't do.

Their bill has funding for border security. Try to lie a little less.

Puerto Rico isn't a town.

But, hey, at least you didn't call it a country.

Cancun is in Mexico. Puerto Rico is in the U.S. Puerto Rico needs attention from people in Washington. Thanks for sharing your report on Democrats doing something constructive while Trump stews in his bitter juices.

Yeah, but you've got one body that is Constitutionally empowered to set the budget for the Executive. With the executive saying, "fund my pet project, or I'll shut the organization down".

It's not a symmetrical equivalence, as can be seen by the citizenry assigning higher blame to Trump. He's essentially taking government hostage, to his whims.

In fact, I believe the budgeting body has no choice but to rebuff the executive. If he wins a game of taking the organization hostage even once, it sets a precedent for even more escalating behaviour.

I don't disagree with you here but the truth here is either side could end this thing today. It would hurt politically but they could do it.

Yes. Absolutely.

The House is Constitutionally directed to set the budget for the Executive branch. If the executive can't or won't do the job of keeping the government running within budget, it's time for a new executive. Problem solved!

Don't get me started on him either...But what he is doing is NO excuse for the Democrats vacationing in Puerto Rico.

This move by the Democrats is brilliant.

When I was a Republican I used to hate it when they came up with stuff like this. Now that I've shed that GOP skin, I can appreciate it.

Way to go, Democrats. Keep doing whatever constructive work you can do to show you care about Americans while Trump is doing what he can to cause maximum pain to Americans.

Don't get me started on him either...But what he is doing is NO excuse for the Democrats vacationing in Puerto Rico.

The house Dems did their jobs, where is mcconnell? Obviously not working. I see you have no problem when trump travels. Nice hypocrisy on your part.

You’re forgetting that Trump was ready to sign the same bill, passed by the House and Senate last month. That is until Coulter and other right wing nuts pulled his bitch card.

No, he’s sitting on his thumbs in Washington. Useless.

The assholes are Breitbart.

This has nothing to do with the O/P's alleged dishonesty or Breitbart's assholes. Red herring.

It has to do with unethical behavior and bad optics being demonstrated by the congressional Democrats.
30 Democrats in Puerto Rico with 109 lobbyists for weekend despite shutdown

Some 30 Democratic lawmakers left the government shutdown behind Friday on a chartered flight to Puerto Rico for a winter retreat with 109 lobbyists and corporate executives during which they planned to see the hit Broadway show “Hamilton” and attend three parties including one with the show’s cast.

Those attending the Congressional Hispanic Caucus BOLD PAC winter retreat in San Juan planned to meet with key officials to discuss the cleanup after Hurricane Maria at a roundtable Saturday.

But the weekend is packed with free time for the members and their families on the trip.
