Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.
Martin Luther King, Jr.

Those are racist interpretations of his words. I believe only intentional ignorance could miss the problem with Jr's statement. In fact, pretending to not see it is a dog whistle. Those three posts each might as well be, "I'm a racist".

I am definitely a racist in racist democrat eyes. I am an old white republican. What other basis is there for democrats to feel good about labeling me racist?

An honest interpretation of the racist horse**** you push.

You are confusing truth with fact. They are not the same. Factually, as jr has a history of trolling, his words can be interpreted as supporting the use of walls or comparing immigrants to animals. To argue otherwise is disingenuous and/or stupid.

What anyone infers from jr’s comments is their prerogative. Jr is no genius, but I do give him credit enough to form a simple double entendre meant to rile anti-Trumpers.

A failed mind reader and English tutor. I don’t hate Trump. He isn’t worthy of the energy that requires. I disdain Trump.

And no, you don’t get it all.

It isn’t enlightenment, genius, it’s being clear eyed and willing to see/acknowledge things the way they are. Try it sometime if you can.

As long as there is an effective barrier of any type, I’d feel safe. How about you? Are walls the only things that make you feel safe?

I am currently in a house with walls. The snow is falling outside. It's cold enough so the snow on the ground is not melting. I am safe from the elements within the walls. The roof doesn't hurt.

My safety from the elements depends on the structure surrounding me.

Thanks for raising my rating to genius. So few people notice...

You say that his comment was both silly --ie fatuous-- and a deliberate attempt to stoke racial tension for political advantage.

The fact that these tactics have proven to be an effective way for Trump to bolster his base is not trivial.

This is not the first time Donald, Jr. has said something stupid, and will not be the last. He should be kept in a cage, and as luck would have it, he is being heavily investigated for the Trump Tower meeting.

He was obviously comparing walls, not people or animals.

You're obviously correct, but the statement was close enough for the liberals to get started on today's Trump bashes.

I did not say it was a deliberate attempt to stoke racial tension; I said that he most likely took advantage of knowing that critics would make themselves look foolish grasping at straws over it. In other words, he knew that they would force themselves to see 'racism' in virtually any innocuous comment. Not to say that Trump himself has never stoked racial tensions, but pretty sure they're also being stoked by folk creating and perpetuating an atmosphere of fear over saying not even the wrong thing, but which might be taken as MEANING the wrong thing.

Like this?: I despise black racist advocacy for the murder of innocent white cops for being assumed by black racists to be white racists.

Which is racial tension. It is a dispute --ie tension-- over racism.

How can you call a statement that you admit was intended to offend people innocuous when the meaning of the word is not harmful or offensive.?

Trump Jr. was pointing out walls at the zoo keep people from coming in contact with things that could harm them. Also the walls at the zoo protect what is being locked inside the zoo.

If you don't want children abused and dying, support Trump in his effort to build a wall at the border, will save many lives. The wall will help not only Americans but those who break the law and put their own lives at risk doing so. Quit fighting Trump and the wall just because of your dislike for him, you're hurting way to many people with this nonsense.

That's so wrong in so many ways. If it's on purpose, gratz; fine work.

Yes..

Miami Zoo has moats. Have we considered that? ;)

Zoos also have cages. Maybe we should consider that too?

Oh waitaminnit

Zoos also have cages.

Miami Zoo only in very limited capacity. Big moats. Tigers don't jump the moat. We could put a fire river in the moat.

I'm not saying a fire moat is appropriate for the entire border. A few miles here and there. Don't blow it out of proportion.

You're a smart guy, do you really need to ask? Almost certainly Don Jr knew what he was doing, that a fatuous comment about the efficacy of walls would be pounced on by rabid critics if given even the tiniest hint of a sliver of anything which might be interpreted as 'racism'; accomplishing absolutely nothing to reduce anyone's opinion of the Trump family and agenda, but absolutely 'proving' to their supporters how irrational the hatred for Trump must be to stoop to such desperate grasping at straws.

Not that I've followed too closely, but it seems that ever since Day One of his candidacy Trump has tried to deal with every scandal or criticism by throwing some other scrap of red meat to the media, some obnoxious remark stupid tweet, and a lot of the time it's worked. How did we come to the point where otherwise intelligent folk are not only STILL playing that game even when it's so obvious, but trying to make mountains out of molehills in order to do so? How did y'all let this president get so far into your heads?

He was obviously comparing walls, not people or animals.

"You know why you can enjoy a day at the zoo? Because walls work."
-Donald Jr.

“There is a Revolution going on in California,” Donald Trump wrote on Twitter last week. “Soooo many Sanctuary areas want OUT of this ridiculous, crime infested & breeding concept.”
-Trump

Referring to MS-13, which until very recently he was certain to put in the same sentence as immigrants with extraordinary frequency:
"You wouldn’t believe how bad these people are. These aren’t people. These are animals..."
-Trump

“They don’t care about crime and want illegal immigrants, no matter how bad they may be, to pour into and infest our country..."
-Trump

"They want Open Borders for anyone to come in. This brings large scale crime and disease."
-Trump

If you don't see the pattern, get better glasses.

Like father, like son.

It happens with such regularity and with so little foundation, the only people who don't understand that this is just hate are the Never Trumpers.

Don't they understand that their actions and words are guaranteeing the re-election 0f the man they hate?

I think they understand. I think the hatred is so bad they just don't care.

Trump likes law and order. He likes the Constitution and he likes the Congress to do their work.

Trump dislikes violent crime and dislikes folks who commit violent crime. He also dislikes drug pushers, ruined lives and wasted opportunity for American citizens.

Is that the pattern you are trying to describe?

Would you say that the result of the midterms works for or against this supposition?

Is the only way to support law and order to consistently compare people to vermin, animals and disease?

That's not even dog whistles to the white nationalist and white supremacist crowd - he's just adopting their language.

As I understand it, Trump's declared party did better than most in the first election following taking office.

Obama's first mid term was a horrible disaster for him- about twice as bad in the House as it was for Trump. He also lost 6 seats in the Senate.

Bush gained House seats in his first mid term.

Clinton lost 54 seats in the House. I seem to recall that he lost the Senate as well with Bob Dole becoming the majority leader.

Trump gained seats in the Senate.

Trump, though, is really a President without a party as the RINO Romney is demonstrating. It makes me wonder what these Republican Party idiots are thinking if thinking is a part of their daily routine.

Trump maintained his Senate majority and that will allow the lasting impact of his Presidency for years to come. It's possible that he will place a total of 5 justices on the Supreme Court.

In this sense, he may be the most consequential President in the last 150 years.
