Trump announced that he's taking declaring a national emergency off the table.

Just 90 minutes ago, Trump announced that he no longer plans to declare a national emergency (for now)

"Now what would happen? I'll be sued and it will be brought to the 9th Circuit, and maybe even though the wording is unambiguous, just like with the travel ban, it'll be appealed to the 9th Circuit and we'll probably lose there too, and then hopefully we'll win in the Supreme Court. So, I'd rather not do it because this is something that Congress should easily do. So what we're not looking to do right now is national emergency. What we want to do and have an absolute right to do it, in many ways it's the easy way out. But this is up to Congress and it should be up to Congress they should do it."

I didn't think he was still reasonable enough to stop pushing his bad position.

It has appeared quite obvious for days the support wasn't there.

I wonder who made him see sense. They deserve kudos.

Well, to be fair, how many people on the other side of the aisle would throw parties if Trump suddenly died?

I don't remember Ginsberg calling people, horse-face, ****, losers, scumbags and calling the media traitors and enemies of the people. Not to mention the DOZENS of other insults and name calling... Words have consequences.

Quite a bit of difference between the 2 people... The hate directed at Ginsberg is strictly because she';s a liberal. Much of the dislike directed at Trump is because he's an uncouth, mean bully who as NO respect for others, and goes out of his way to make enemies.

That said I doubt many would 'throw parties'.

Nice.. But I noticed you didn't remark on the difference between Trump's behavior and Ginsberg's..

You can't expect Trump to insult everyone from POW's to generals to the press to other politicians to whole races and demographics and expect him to be loved.

I'm in my 60's, been insulted at times. I don't like those people, and vise versa when I insulted other people. I guess that's part of being human, we don't like being insulted, and bullied, and not respected... I'm not sure why you think there's a comparison between Trump and Ginsberg.

i thought that Mexico was paying for it.
I don't understand why he is talking to Pelosi and the House at all. The legislature he needs to be negotiating with to keep his campaign promise, is located in Mexico City. Those are the only people that can allocate funds in the right budget bill, consistent with his promise.

I didn't say or imply that he should be loved. We're talking about people salivating over the thought of someone in politics dying -- all because of politics. Before Trump ran for President, no one would've cared if he died. Now that he's in the political arena, people ARE salivating over the thought of him dying. Don't you remember everyone waiting for the White House physician to say he could keel over any day? During the physician's press conference, reporters were asking any and every question hoping for any kind of sign that he might be dying. Then, naturally, came the hyper-partisan crazies who immediately assumed the physician was lying or was paid off to say good things.

You cannot say with a straight face that no one would be throwing parties if Trump died. The past few years have made that very obvious and it's all because of politics.

You thinking of her dying is making your keyboard all sticky, isn't it?

My God what the hell has this country come to. How the hell did our society produce people like you?

You mean how did our society produce some one who is offended by some evil old S**t Bag who spent decades wiping her ass with the US Constitution.

She could have retired at an appropriate age and had Obama replace her. But like most Leftists she had a lust for power and control that would never allow her to voluntarily give it up, and now it's biting her in the ass.

I don't want her to die, I want her to have to step off the court tortured in the knowledge that President Trump is replacing her. Just like I'm delighted to know that Harry Reid is seeing the President use Reid's own dirty political trick to get the Justices confirmed with just 51 votes.

I'm from NY Josie.. He was hated HERE and in NJ LOOOOOONG before he went into politics. He cheated, screwed, lied to and conned many, MANY people. I've known about him for 30+ years, I knew a dozen or so people who worked for him. They hated his guts. I don't know if they wished him dead, but don't fool yourself in believing he's not liked now only because of his politics. This man **** on many many people before he went into politics. He's always been an awful person.

Again, NO!!

The President and America would easily win the wall in the supreme court, especially with Ginsberg ready to croke.

But why go through a year of court for something he is winning now.

He met his match when he went head to head with Nancy Pelosi. Trump is accustomed to denigrating and mocking women like Rosie O'Donnell, Maxine Waters or Elizabeth Warren, he's never been dominated by a strong woman that knows the Constitution like she does. I think he's felt the Pelosi-burn and he's going to learn to respect her.

He's not winning much of anything. No wall anyway. In the meantime, every day that this shutdown continues he's losing thousands of potential votes in 2020 if he lasts that long.

It could have been any one of the 17 new lawyers he hired.

Now what will the Democrats have to whine about?

Thanks a lot, President Buzzkill.

The biggest threat this country has right now is a president without shame, backed by a party without spine and a network that amplifies it without integrity. He said that judges are 'Obama judges and it took John Roberts to stand up and say 'no there are no Obama judges or Bush judges, they're just judges.' Look what he's been doing with the people that are out of work right now, government workers and he's saying that they're 'mostly Democrats'.

These are our institutions he's attacking. We have a non-partisan military, we have a judiciary, we have a true state not some nefarious 'deep state'. Why do you think all these people are lining up to get into our country? Because they want to be in a place that has our kinds of institutions. That's precisely what this president is attacking. The biggest threat is sitting in the Oval Office, we have a president that doesn't appreciate the institutions that make our country great. When he lies day after day and denigrates people like Jim Mattis or intentionally embarrasses Rex Tillerson and his party in Congress says nothing, what do you think is the corrosive impact of that over time?

Yep, and over seas too.. What he's done to our foreign policy and our allies will take a generation to repair, at least.

Oh, I'm sure there are people in his past who hated him and still hate him not for political reasons. I'm talking about the general population here. And, again, yes --- people would throw parties if he died suddenly. You haven't been paying attention for the past 3 years if you think literally NO ONE would be extremely ecstatic and throw a party to celebrate Trump's death. There are many people who take joy in the death of the people they hate. We've seen it on this very forum which is why the RIP tag rule stands.

I stopped reading right there..

Josie? Take notice.

Why? I don't condone speaking about people like this.

As long as Liberals heads explode, or some drivel like that......It's all these losers care about.

You must be joking. Democrats are loving seeing this idiot go down in the flames of his own creation. Pelosi owns him on the wall debate now.

According to Trump, border security was a 'crisis' 18 months ago, it was a 'crisis' two months ago, why didn't he take the deal for 25 billion for his wall when it was offered in Feb. 2017 if it was still such a big then why did he wait until a week before Christmas to decide to refuse any offers and eventually shut down the government?

Trump's racist behaviour and flimflam past have been legendary, I've thought he was a disgusting POS since I learned of his antics. Nothing to do with politics.

I'm thinking that pretty well anyone who heard about how he acted must feel the same way. Who could support a racist who opened a fake university designed to scam desperate people out of their last pennies, and leave them deep in credit card debt? LOL, that's cartoon villain stuff there.

Yep. The USA's reputation has been really hurt up in here in Canada. Anytime the government wants to take an anti-USA stance they can, the majority of Canadians will support them.

I give Trudeau a lot of credit for not taking advantage of the situation.

"Throw parties if Trump died"? I doubt it. Maybe a few "High fives" or a fist bump or two ... or the occasional "THANK YOU JEEZUZ!" But parties? Nah.
