How to end this with most being "winners"?

Have the House pass all of the bills with sufficient votes to over ride a veto and without the wall but with 7 billion in additional funding for border security. Then McConnell allows a vote on the bills and insure that there are sufficient number of GOP votes to over ride a veto. The Senate GOPers who would vote for the bills would be those with a great number of government workers in their districts that could give them cover for their votes. Trump could allow the bills to lay on his desk for the days needed for them to become law without his signature. The government would open and the Dems could claim they did not give in to the wall. Trump could claim he did not give in to the Dems and that the Legislative branch forced his hand and he would somehow get the wall built in the future. All of the legislators could go back to their districts and say they have helped secure our borders by the huge increase in funding for that purpose. No one would lose and the American people would be back in business.

McConnell wouldn't allow that vote. One has to remember he is up for reelection in 2020 in a state where Trump approval rating is 55%. Trump's approval rating nationally is 42%. Going against Trump would pretty much guarantee McConnell is primaried out of office. Kentucky is an R plus 15 state. Meaning Kentucky is 15 points higher than the national average Republican. Going against Trump would be the death wish come true for McConnell.

In plain English, going against Trump ends McConnell's senate career.
This Reform Party member thinks it is high past time that we start electing Americans to congress and the presidency who put America first and their political party further down the line. But for way too long we have been electing Republicans and Democrats who happen to be Americans instead of Americans who happen to be Republicans and Democrats.

    Right.

Reward Trump for holding hundreds of thousands of Americans hostage. And what is it that we'll be getting in return? Some vague promise that Republicans will wait until 2020 to renew their assaults on innocent young people who know no other home but America? I'm not sure what it is that you're saying the Democrats will get out of giving Trump money that he promised he would never ask for.

What is there to stop Trump from pulling a trick like this again if Democrats roll over and get nothing in return?

Time for McConnell to remember that he is an American ... do what is right ... and then accept his comfortable retirement and statesman status.

He's 76. Ending his "career" shouldn't seem such a threat that he would be willing to prolong the suffering of hundreds of thousands of Americans, risk the national credit rating, hamstring the agencies which are supposed to be making sure the country is safe, etc.
