Voters Must Reject The Moral Bankruptcy Of Donald Trump’s Republican Party

11/1/18
President Donald Trump’s campaign speeches are a merciless moral X-ray, of himself and of his party. To beat back Democrats, he is waging an explicit race war rooted in blatant lies. Illegal immigrants are voting in droves. Democrats are funding a “caravan” of Hispanic refugees, awash in gang members and Middle Eastern terrorists, to overrun our borders. As he replicates the rhetoric of history’s most vile authoritarians, Republican officeholders grab his soiled coattails. “There is no Republican Party,” former House Speaker John Boehner said in April. “There is a Trump Party. The Republican Party is kind of taking a nap somewhere.”

The stakes in November transcend ideological preferences or partisan differences: They cut to the essence of America itself. Who will govern us ― the party of white identity, or one that respects our common humanity? Will we combat, or promote, hatred and violence? Will we broaden opportunity and security for all, or suffocate hope by empowering plutocracy? Will we preserve the rule of law and America’s constitutional democracy, or further empower an aspiring autocrat to undermine them both? Will we demand accountability for Russia’s malevolent attacks on our elections, or protect the malefactors at home and abroad? What kind of America awaits millennial's and their children: a society that strives to realize its best ideals, or the Hobbesian homeland of Trump and a terminally debased political party which, to preserve itself and its patrons, erodes democracy and metastasizes primordial bigotry? This is the defining choice facing voters next Tuesday.

It's decision time. Trumps GOP offers constant attacks on our healthcare and preexisting conditions. Tax bonanzas for their wealthy donors. A Cabinet that is awash in corruption. A president that promotes white nationalism, bigotry, divisiveness, fear-mongering, and a record of constant lies. A president that obtains his policy cue's from Fox & Friends and spends more time tweeting and golfing than he does governing. This is a GOP party that is destroying the Environmental Protection Agency ... indeed it's Trump appointed director is a former fossil-fuel company CEO that dreamed of destroying the agency. This Republican Party has willingly conspired to act as Trump enablers for the past two years. They have consistently placed party above country.

We can begin the process of reclaiming America on November 6th. VOTE!

Trump is the inevitable culmination of a GOP that has become increasingly terrible for about 50 years.

I think that's an excessive statement. George Bush and the Republican Congress of the early 00s took some fairly significant bipartisan stands.

It's the Republican party of the last 10 years that has completely turned off any desire to be fair or bipartisan; or portray moderates/Democrats as anything but political enemies.

Trump has denounced white supremacists many times. Those that hate him just ignore it and claim that certain things he says "really mean this....".

As for destroying the EPA...GOOD. Many of the policies that he has gotten rid of in regards to the EPA and other such agencies should have been taken care of by Congress. NOT an agency which is not held accountable to The People and By The People. Laws and regulations are supposed to be the Legislative Branch's job. NOT the Executive Branches job. The reason the Congress gave up its job to those agencies was because they knew a lot of the policies would have cost them their jobs. By having those agencies make the regulations they can just claim that it wasn't their call. But plain fact of the matter is that it IS their call. So...You want the environment protected? Then get Congress to do its damn job.

I remember when I was old enough to vote in my first election. That Republican Party was vote-able and for the most part governed quite sensibly.

Today's Republican Party is..... I have no idea. Horrific. It is nothing like the GOP that I voted for back in the day.

Nothing the OP said is true. Blinders, take them off.

The answer was not nominating Hillary. It is also not pushing for sanctuary cities/states, more immigration of low-skilled labor or decreasing immigration law enforcement. IMHO, Trump's, and by extension all republicants, biggest failure is wanting ever more federal government power and expense yet not the taxation sufficient to fund it.

Both parties were more centrist 'back in the day'.

I didn't vote for Clinton because she was controlled by Corporate Interests, but Trump IS the Corporate Interests. There's nothing really redeeming about his administration, it's all divisiveness, angry rhetoric, fear mongering, dishonesty, and high-drama. It's ridiculous, and he's nothing but an embarrassment.

I used to vote straight ticket GOP, I even have an autographed picture of Newt Gingrich, and his book Contract with America. But I agree, the current state of the GOP is horrific. It's nothing but a mockery of what it once was.

Interesting opinion piece. What does the Democrats stand for? My problem is neither sides represents 100% of what I believe in. If you look beyond the rhetoric from Trump there are some good points. If you look beyond the rhetoric of Pelosi there are some good points.

How kind of you to tell the US electorate how they must vote. I'm sure they appreciate it.

Absolutely everything in the OP is true. The GOP is a crapsack travesty. Every single thing about it sucks.

After watching the Democrats moral bankruptcy trying to destroy an innocent man's life with lies, the worst sort of political gamesmanship your post rings hollow.

It's not a secret. It's plainly listed as part of their platform. People like to make up ridiculous stories like "they want completely open borders and all whites dead" because it's easier to argue against.

That will never happen as people such as you will always vote for the polluters over the people.

I remember the years before the EPA and I sure as **** do not want to go back to that.

Part of conservative used to be conservationist.

Nixon was a crook but he did several very good things that changed this country for the better. Now we have the Grabbers in charge and ***** is not all they are trying to grab.

Until they go back to their pro environment days and embrace the ideology of true leaders like teddy Roosevelt you can count me as one proud outdoorsman and gun owner who will be voting Democrat...

Still defending a lying grabber I see...

Love how you know how I would vote without even asking me. Where have I ever said or implied that I do not want regulations on pollution? Anywhere? Have I even ever IMPLIED it? No. I haven't. All that I want is for those regulations to go through the appropriate branch of government. Which is the Legislative Branch. Not the Executive Branch. Do you not know the difference between the two? Why the two were separated?

And you go right ahead and vote for Democrat. I'll vote for whoever best serves The People. Not ideology.

Democratic Party Platform

Thanks for the link. As I stated there are some things I can agree with and some I don't with both parties platforms. Take the Dems stance on "Closing the Racial Wealth Gap". I realize it is written in general. Yet, no mention of non minority poor. We are Americans or we are not. When politicians keep bringing up "race" they just keep the problem going.

It is also interesting how many of the elected representatives (Dem) are rich and take advantage of the current tax laws , etc. that allows them to remain so. Not saying what they are doing is wrong. What I am saying is nothing is stopping them from writing a check to the Treasury for what they feel should be the "fair share".

Far as I'm concerned both major parties are morally bankrupt. Both put party over country and both are out to destroy the other even if it means destroy this nation in the process. What the heck has happened to our political system over the last 20-30 years?

You said you wanted to eliminate the EPA, that alone says how you would vote.

The EPA is loaded with environmental experts, the current GOP does not want to hear about a y of that science crap.

Environmental policies should not be handled by self serving partisan politicians who only have their own and by extension their parties interest at heart.

I have Nixon to thank for hundreds of thousands more miles of clean trout streams to fish, and thank to his endangered species act I see dozens of eagles every day, and now may be able to live a life long dream of trapping a wolf in the midwest.
