LOL! Rural hospitals CLOSING due to red states refusing Medicaid expansion!

Geezus, man. Your gloating and wishing death upon them is as bad as the worst Trumper. And that's not a good thing.
Oh noes, how ever will I recover from that indictment. News flash - it ain't my fault they're dying. They're doing this to themselves. So instead of whining at me, how about you tell them to stop killing themselves? Or was your post all about teh optics?

Incorrect.. Please try again.
I will not even bother with your childish bull**** anymore unless you can substantiate your claims with facts.

Till then, what I say stands uncontested. Bring it or sit down.

So, why would they refuse Medicaid expansion or other assistance? Their residents are poor.

I am not studied up on that issue but I do know that rural hospitals have been in huge trouble for many decades, and that just about nothing was ever done, because we as a nation could not be bothered.

Then people stand around scratching their balls wondering how the leaders ever lost their followers to this guy Trump.

Those are in rural areas, and right wing ****holes like Modesto.

Rural areas are petri dishes of cancerous right wing hate no matter what state they're in.

You mean all the places that grow and raise all the food to feed city-folk? The places that city-folk steal money from because they can't figure out how to pack people on top of each other without running deficits? The places where people learn to be self-reliant and responsible? That's your idea of cancer?

Obama did something.

Researchers found that the states that did not expand Medicaid in 2014 saw a large increase in hospital closures: a rise of 0.429 closures per 100 hospitals between 2008-2012 and 2015-2016. By contrast, in states where Medicaid expanded, the closure rate decreased by 0.33 per 100 hospitals.

In certain states, the GOP leadership blocked his solution and their communities have paid the price.

Three minutes on google convinces me that the economics of rural hospitals are the same disaster that they have long been.....any benefit from ObamaCare is likely transitory.

We need reform....real reform.

We got real reform, champ. Trump and the GOP need to implement it instead of tirelessly working to roll it back and punish their own jurisdictions.

What was passed in 2010? OBAMA CARE. Thank you Obama care again. Not only did I not get my $2500.00 in reduced health care I no longer have a hospital to go to. What is next?
God help us.

Thought trump was going replace it with something everyone was going to love? Did he lie or dies he really not care?

Oh we will get real reform, eventually, me thinks you will not like it.

This article should fall under "scattershot" rather than upshot as it's all over the place, not really making any sort of meaningful argument, kinda just pulling from this and from that trying to support his opinion.

Not very convincing, a little surprising based on his credentials, but then, how much stock do you put in a person on economics who holds his Phd in Electical Engineering.

At least this guy has his undergrad in the discipline...

That falls on the resistance and the do nothing party. Trump has been busy fighting a witch hunt and a corrupt bias media. unfortunately he can only sign or veto what congress does. So far all they have done is nothing. We need to replace our party puppets in congress with real leaders who will get things done like Trump.

ROTFLMAO... Conservative states are losing hospitals in the areas where Trump voters rule the land. I have some ****s to give - so in the spirit of Free Market Capitalism I am selling them for a billion dollars apiece... pity I'm all out of stock, though.

Considering that hospitals closing leads to Trump voters dying, I guess I can say their pain is America's gain... and they brought this mess upon themselves, no less.

This is exactly the problem in this country right now, the visceral hatred of what people think of as the "other side". This type of rhetoric is only going to further divide this country and it we're all going to suffer for it.

A couple of years ago I read a few articles about Kansas rural hospitals closing causing rural people to drive 100+ miles to a hospital, and their schools having to go to 4 days a week school weeks because of Brownbacks draconian policies which were fiscally starving schools and hospitals. And some counties were so strapped they had 8-10% tax on ALL groceries, ALL food!!! The millionaires in Kansas are happier than hell though, they pay almost 0 in taxes. I'm sure those millionaires don't use or care about those hospitals and schools.

Kansas is still solidly Red. I will never understand why Republican voters so willingly vote against their own interest.

Excuses excuses.

Because it's the tribe they belong to and they hate the other tribe. Goes both ways.

Presidents develop and put out plans and policy proposals all the time to set the agenda and spur Congressional action. Two years in Trump still has no health plan.

Good. I hope this country breaks up and we can escape WASP rule.

Partisan statements like this is why this country is so divided. You may want to take note that these petri dish rural areas and States have more hospitals per capita than the more populated urban areas and states. There may be a bit more travel time but you can be sure a visit at an emergency room in a rural community will not be a 5 to 8 hour wait just to be seen. As for Medicaid expansion, I really have no issue with its concept, on the other hand it really is just a stepping stone for single payer, which I do have a problem with.

Currently, anyone meeting the qualifications can get Medicaid regardless if the state you live in signs onto the expansion programs. There are also other programs that are eligible for children, pregnant women, etc, at that level of financial hardship. The savings promised with the expansion has not happened in the states that signed on. The interesting fact for me is these states only pay 2% on average, we the tax payers foot the rest.

Why not just leave this horrible county? What’s stopping you?

I agree with you, up to a point. The hate is more extreme on the right. I see it within my own family, they sit there day after day watching and listening the Fox and the Limbaughs preach to them about how evil Dems and Libs are, and they hate Dems. 25 years ago they were Republicans, but they didn't hate the other side.. Now? They're still Republicans, but their politics is a white hot hate.

The election of Trump pretty much proves my point. All the criticisms of Obama Trump is 100 times worse, the golfing, the debt and deficit, being unchristian, the lies, and on and on. But now all of a sudden the Right doesn't care about any of that, they only care that there's not a Dem in the WH... 'I rather be Russian than a Dem'... I had people here tell me they'd support Hitler before supporting a Clinton'.. 25 years ago I would have laughed it off, now? I 100% believe both statements.

There might not be quite as much hate on the left towards the right, but the disdain for the rural right is palpable.

The Democratic Party and so many Democrats top to bottom continuously publicly declaring they want senior citizen Americans to die is not the most persuasive of possible campaign issues for Democratic candidates, is it?

Two wrongs don't make a right. Stop lying.

They brought this mess? If those rural hospitals were in business before the Medicaid expansion and Obamacare, then "who brought this mess" are those that changed the economics of medical care. The question is, why now?

The answer is in Obamacare, one long predicted effect being that it would force consolidation of medical care (as it has here in the Bay Area, with several closures). This was not unpredicted.

So if, as you imply, that these closures are a bad thing then blame Obamacare .
