All the president's men: what to make of Trump's bizarre new painting | The Guardian Opinion

The painting is quite good but, ladies and gentlemen, the accompanying commentary by columnist Hannah Jane Parkinson suggests clinical TDS.

Lincoln is accepted as one of the truly GREAT presidents of all time - perhaps the top of the list. TR is usually in the top ten on almost every expert survey.

Trump holds the bottom spot.

Showing these men drinking with Trump - who does not drink by the way - and enjoying his company as equals - is ludicrous .

Bottom spot as in current? What expert survey? How is that even possible? There is 1/4 historical data to look at and we are in booming economy, record unemployment, on the verge of peace with NK, free trade agreements with at least 20 countries.

Why do you think Lincoln is considered number one? They both have to stand up to crazed lawless democrats clinging to their slaves during their presidential situation.

There is no doubt they are all presidents duly elected. Perhaps they can backfill barry into that other painting. He stands well with Carter. I still remember waiting for hours in line for gasoline with my dad.

Apparently, people do care. Strange. I figured maybe the article had something in it which would incense people, but I found it lacking. What I read was an article ridiculing the artist and his depiction of every President and essentially the painting as a whole. It seemed petty and vindictive and not really worth anybody reading.

But I guess that's why we have opinion pieces.

Its pure kitsch. And that applies to the Democratic version also.

Sure it is. But it's a good painting. The writer took off on her own and used it as just another attack Trump point. Not necessary and will generate eyerolls at what has become tediously routine.

That’s a talented artist. It is a well done painting. I’m not going to pretend otherwise just because I don’t like Trump.

Really this picture is a perspective vies of them in the higher octaves, really he's been beckoned to drink on the street corner with a bunch of Hawaiian locals (how they've embodied) and in just a minute their "bra" hugs are going to turn into soft fists to make his lights blink.

Here is what the artist (Andy Thomas) had to say about his own painting. Or from the horses mouth...

There’s a Subtle Feminist Message in This New Painting of Donald Trump

"The addition of a crowd in the background also led Thomas, an independent-minded Midwesterner who’s a fan of both Reagan and Bill Clinton, to add a subtle feminist message: A woman with indistinct features walking directly toward the table.

The same woman also appears in a separate painting, “The Democratic Club,” that Thomas just finished.
“That will be the first Republican female president and the first Democratic female president,” he explained. “As I was doing the painting, I was thinking that these guys are kind of intimidating in a way. That’s the kind of woman that will be our first woman president; she’ll walk right up to that table.”

Prints of the two paintings, revealed exclusively to TIME for the first time, will go on sale sometime before the summer."

The artist also said: "“I’m an old-fashioned male,” he said. “But there’s a feeling of a good old boy’s network that I wanted to dispel. It just kind of came about.”"

I'm trying to figure out who the woman is standing just off GHWB's left shoulder.

I think we've got Taft in the center background and Coolidge behind Teddy
here is your answer; from the artist himself...

"Thomas, who has a son, three daughters and two stepsons, did admit one inspiration for the idea, however: His daughter, Jenny, who works in management at a manufacturing company.

“Jenny would do that,” he said. “She’d walk right up there.”"

What the **** is this?

It looks like something to trigger the libtards! #Winning!

Trump should be on Mount Rushmore, truth be known.

The artist was very flattering to the present POTUS; 239 lbs and all.....

This is one of those times where I say. Don't shoot the painter! It's a great piece and very thought provoking. It may not belong in the oval office, however. He should put it in Trump Tower or his favorite golf course. That's the tacky part!

Why sure it belongs in the Oval office during a Trump Presidency.

Is this what he's doing?

I'd even consider leaving it up, along with the Democratic version further above as a reminder of my predecessors.

Ironic that the Conservative Trump is smiling with everybody like Obama and unlike a previous image of him with world leaders.

I really like the Feminist image of the woman walking toward them to break it up and put them back into their Conservatist frown.

Trump lives and works in the White House, so he can add decorations as he sees fit.

Because he can, therefore he should.

Your unethical worldview in a sentence.
