Why don't more countries start combining?

I do not consider ukraine or kazahkstan to be small countries, ukraine is the largest country in europe since russia covers europe and asia, and kazahkstan is very massive, dwarfing most other countries on earth in size. You seem to be running under some wierd idea of what defines a large country.
