It is simple, how long will it take to get Roe overturned now that Kavanaugh is on the court? The reason I ask is that Collins was on 60 Minutes and once again she said she believed Kavanaugh that Roe was settled law and she believed he would not vote to over turn Roe. One thing else I wonder is what else the GOP will do to satisfy the Evangelicals after ridding them of Roe? What do you think?

I am of the school that it continues to get nullified rather than overturned.

It's not going to be overturned. EVER.
Do yourself a kindness. Get out of the echo chamber.

Roe v Wade will NOT be overturned. Period. Anyone that thinks it will be are paranoid and anyone that says it will be are fearmongering.

Not that Trump's word is worth a wooden nickel but, these fears are justified.

Donald Trump said the overturning of the landmark Supreme Court decision giving women the right to abortion "will happen, automatically," if he is elected president and gets to appoint justices to the high court.

Roe will never be overturned.

I do find it funny how Trump is considered a constant liar and never tells the truth...except on things which can be used to promote a party lines talking point.

Trump's political lies are usually self-serving exaggerations or strawmans of Democrats. This particular statement seems to be pandering to evangelicals. However, would he be considered a liar now, if he did not appoint justices to the USSC who plan to overturn Roe v. Wade? I consider this either a flat out lie to secure evangelical votes. Or, he really did intend to do that. A pro-choice Republican like Collins or a pro-choice libertarian would look like a dumbass for not believing what was in plain sight with on the record statements from both the President and Vice President.

Yep, his supporters keep going on and on about all the promises he is keeping but if we dare think this one will be kept we're paranoid.

This was never a promise that he could keep as he cannot dictate how a judge will rule. He can nominate judges that lean a certain way, but he can't make them rule a certain way.

I find it odd that people would claim here that Trump didn't really mean what he was saying. Okay, then that's one campaign promise broken. And if he did mean what he said, then the left's concerns are validated.

But, I'm sure it won't take that long for the left to be wrong again. Just have to think up another way in which they are.

You also have to consider that Trump is not really a conservative, or liberal for that matter. He's all about him. I doubt he actually cares one way or the other on abortion.....actually strike that. He might even support it a bit as it would help his tendency of promiscuity. Less illegitimate children that way. ;)

Oh, I agree Trump is fluid. He has no ideology other than the altar of Trump.

My point is that if you take the position that he is not appointing justices that would overturn Roe v. Wade then that is a lie to Evangelicals who support him because he promised to do that.

So, if he's willing to sell them down the river, who isn't he?

He is an absolute liar, but he knows what side his bread is buttered on. He secured evangelical support by promising to take his Supreme Court picks from a list which was drawn up as evangelicals' best chance of overturning Roe v. Wade. And that is one promise he has kept.

There's no such thing as "settled law". Any law can be changed. Not to mention, a supreme court decision isn't law, to begin with.

I am with you there Amelia, so the thread is made on reasonable grounds. When can we expect conservatives to go after Roe v. Wade?

All politicians lie when campaigning and make promises that they know that they can't keep. Trump is no different.

Could be soon. I think there's more than one law working it's way to SCOTUS. If my count is correct at least 5 states had their restrictive laws blocked by appeals courts this year.

Will SCOTUS agree to address Iowa's heartbeat law? I think with five rightwing justices they'll agree to hear at least one of the abortion law appeals.

Roe doesn't have to be overturned. All that needs be done is let all the state laws restricting abortion to facilities meeting this or that requirement be affirmed. This has already proven very effective and Kavanaugh will likely not vote to overturn them.
And, of course, Trump is already calling this a promise kept. IE: Appointing justices who will overturn Roe.

Yeah, you just better hope he doesn't break a campaign promise on an issue you care about, I guess.

How long to overturn Roe?

The abortion issue ought to have been a state issue, not a federal one.
