How long to overturn Roe?

Yeah, you just better hope he doesn't break a campaign promise on an issue you care about, I guess.

That of course is always a possibility. But then that is a possibility with EVERY politician. I hold no illusions about that.

The abortion issue ought to have been a state issue, not a federal one.

The Right to Privacy is a federal issue. Which is what Roe v Wade was decided on. As much as people like to think that it was decided based on abortion, it wasn't.

Roe doesn't have to be overturned. All that needs be done is let all the state laws restricting abortion to facilities meeting this or that requirement be affirmed. This has already proven very effective and Kavanaugh will likely not vote to overturn them.
And, of course, Trump is already calling this a promise kept. IE: Appointing justices who will overturn Roe.

That has been effective?

I don't recall that. What I recall is the appeals courts are blocking those laws. Except maybe on the admitting privileges issue.

So if SCOTUS doesn't agree to hear the appeals, then the laws stay blocked.

I really don't think it will be overturned anytime soon.

It's not going to be overturned. EVER.
Do yourself a kindness. Get out of the echo chamber.

Many Kavanaugh supporters want it overturned and that's what the supreme court is about

Makes you wish that the Democrats, while they held the majority, would have passed an actual law legalizing abortion. Huh?

I wonder why they didn't. Was it because they wanted to be able to scare the **** out of their base by claiming RVW was going to be overturned? Or, was it because they believe it would have been political suicide?

It is simple, how long will it take to get Roe overturned now that Kavanaugh is on the court? The reason I ask is that Collins was on 60 Minutes and once again she said she believed Kavanaugh that Roe was settled law and she believed he would not vote to over turn Roe. One thing else I wonder is what else the GOP will do to satisfy the Evangelicals after ridding them of Roe? What do you think?
Ain't gonna friggin' happen, period. Just a scare tactic your betters in the Left trolled you suckers with. And you swallowed hook, line and sinker. And pole, and gloves and haif the fisherman's arm. You were taken, lied to, and whipped to a frienzy.

Collins is lying just like she lied she was undecided. The pro-lifers are waging a war and I suspect state legislatures already have plans to introduce legislation that will be challenged and will end up next session on the supreme court.

You also have to consider that Trump is not really a conservative, or liberal for that matter. He's all about him. I doubt he actually cares one way or the other on abortion.....actually strike that. He might even support it a bit as it would help his tendency of promiscuity. Less illegitimate children that way. ;)

The wealthy will always have access to and get abortions.

I wish that it would be...but it won’t.

I said it would happen during Trump's term. I stand by it.

Depends on when the next abortion-related case gets to the Supreme Court. I wouldn't be surprised in the least to learn that there were multiple cases en route as we speak.

I don't know who Collins is lying to: us or herself.

I hope the SC doesn't attempt to overturn it. If it did, wouldn't the republicans risk a landslide of angry women votes?

Trump's political lies are usually self-serving exaggerations or strawmans of Democrats. This particular statement seems to be pandering to evangelicals. However, would he be considered a liar now, if he did not appoint justices to the USSC who plan to overturn Roe v. Wade? I consider this either a flat out lie to secure evangelical votes. Or, he really did intend to do that. A pro-choice Republican like Collins or a pro-choice libertarian would look like a dumbass for not believing what was in plain sight with on the record statements from both the President and Vice President.

One of the reasons I asked is if it is overturned, wht excuse could the Evangelicals have for continuing to support Trump. He is not exactly what one would call a good Christian.

She is lying to us. Before Trump, she only voted with the GOP majority about 50% of the time. Since the Tea Party and now Trump, she is voting with the GOP majority 87% of the time and is only voting against the wishes of the party on issues that she knows she would not be the deciding vote. She is scared of being taken down by the Tea Party in her state. We know that she wants her job more than she worries about lies.

My personal belief (no statistics or evidence) is that Roe V. Wade will not be challenged unless and until an amendment to the US Constitution or a Federal law is passed to protect un-born children.

Oh, I agree Trump is fluid. He has no ideology other than the altar of Trump.

My point is that if you take the position that he is not appointing justices that would overturn Roe v. Wade then that is a lie to Evangelicals who support him because he promised to do that.

So, if he's willing to sell them down the river, who isn't he?

He picks from a list supplied by the Heritage foundation. They are all vetted by them. Kavanaugh in the past, had a case come up between Trump and a union. Kavanaugh sided with Trump.

I thought we were PO'd enough for that already...............

I am personally against abortion, but that is my morals. I wonder if I or anyone has the right to decide for another on this issue. Then I see a court case where a rapist went to court and got parental rights to visit the child of the woman he raped after leaving prison. It must have been hard enough to carry and bring up the child, but to have the court say you can not keep the child from his rapist father. I can see why women who have been raped don't want to carry the child to birth, but this makes it even worse for her. I read a stat on rape and it said as many as 1 of every 32 women raped who report it get pregnant from the rape.

Just in case anyone would like to know what Roe (Norma McCorvey) later thought of the matter:

Roe Changes Her Mind.
Reported by Deborah - January 17, 2005. Billed as an exclusive announcement for Hannity&Colmes, Norma McCorvey (Jane Roe) appeared tonight with her lawyer, Allen Parker, to announce that she has changed her mind about abortion and wants to see Roe vs. Wade overturned.
News Hounds: Roe Changes Her Mind.

New Twist for a Landmark Case: Roe v. Wade Becomes Roe v. Roe

Aug 12, 1995 · Ms. McCorvey, who did not have an abortion but rather gave her child up for adoption as her case wound toward the Supreme Court, did not pinpoint a specific date when she changed her mind about abortion but suggested to ABC News that she had been troubled one day when she noticed some empty swings in a Dallas playground.

Seven things about "Roe"

1. She never had an abortion.
She never had an abortion and that her pregnancy was not a product of rape as she had claimed in the case. The then mother of two gave her third child the gift of adoption.

2. She asked her doctor to put her in touch with an adoptive/foster attorney. That attorney put her in touch with pro-aborts.

3. She agreed to be the leading plaintiff for “free pizza & beer.”

4. She never stepped foot in a courtroom.

5. She read about the legalization of abortion in the newspaper. She was never contacted after signing.

6. In 1995, Norma McCorvey declared herself pro-life.

7. She has attempted to have the case reopened and overturned.

So, a lot of people here are arguing in favor of Roe when she actually lied about what happened and that she herself wanted Roe v Wade overturned.

I think within a year. States that have repeatedly tried to limit women's reproductive freedom, only to be slapped back by SCOTUS will have new laws on the books within months; those laws will be immediately challenged, and states will fast-track them to SCOTUS en mass.

Both. Years ago, Kavanaugh wrote a brief (when he was working for GW Bush, I believe) that stated quite clearly that he didn't believe Roe v Wade was "settled law." He went even further, stating that there were currently (at that time) three Justices he knew of who would vote to overturn Roe.

We now have five such Justices. All these people giggling and say "Roe v Wade will never be overturned" will be back giggling "Surprise!" when it actually is overturned, and given back to the states to decide whether or not their female citizens will be allowed the privilege of retaining their reproductive freedoms.

What Trump has said or what Trump believes... vis a vis repeal of Roe v Wade is irrelevant in what the court can actually do.

Whether Donald Trump actually believes he appointments to the court would lead to overturn or whether he used the promise to get votes makes no difference.
